  1. Good Match!    The stages would have been challenging even for a day match.    I think several folks learned that the old cliché of "Use Enough Gun" also could be rephrased into "Have Enough Lumens."   One thing that I found interesting was the high hit ratio for the long 25 yard shots.  This was especially impressive for those shooters using handheld lights since they were in affect engaging strong hand only.
  2.   That is correct.   From the CMP link I provided above......   Marksmanship or other Firearms Related Activity: You must provide proof of participation in a marksmanship related activity or otherwise show familiarity with the safe handling of firearms and range procedures. Your marksmanship related activity does not have to be with highpower rifles; it can be with smallbore rifles, pistols, air guns or shotguns. Proof of marksmanship participation can be provided by documenting any of the following: Current or past military service. Current or past law enforcement service Participation in a rifle, pistol, air gun or shotgun competition (provide copy of results bulletin). Completion of a marksmanship clinic that included live fire training (provide a copy of the certificate of completion or a statement from the instructor). Distinguished, Instructor, or Coach status. - Concealed Carry License. Firearms Owner Identification Cards that included live fire training. - FFL or C&R license. Completion of a Hunter Safety Course that included live fire training. Certification from range or club official or law enforcement officer witnessing shooting activity. A form for use in completing and certifying your range firing can be downloaded from the CMP web site at http://www.odcmp.com/competitions/forms/marksmanship.pdf   If the first seven examples of activity doesn't apply to you, I can sign the certification form that affirms firearm activity.  Any of you who have shot IDPA, 3Gun, Service Rifle, or F Class matches with me can print out the form for my signature.  I also sign this same form for anybody who I have ever provided firearm instruction.
  3.   A club that has a CMP affiliation is often seen as a roadblock to many, but it can be as easy as joining the Garand Collectors Association which is a CMP club.    http://www.thegca.org/   Here is the direct link that tells you what is needed to order from the CMP.   http://www.odcmp.com...eligibility.htm   It might seem like a complex way to get a rifle, but heck its a M1 Garand FEDEX direct to you.    PM me if you need any help in getting your M1.   Mark
  4. Well......  :waiting:   I reckon starting a thread on the Current and Factual status of Garands within the CMP from one of its Master Instructors who recently had a visit to its Anniston warehouse and talked directly with its officials is not good enough to dispel those who would rather offer their own self-predictions, false information, and develop rumors.   I tried.
  5.   Congress defunded and closed the old Director of Civilian Marksmanship (DCM) which was run by the Army back in the early 1990s.  It then created the Civilian Marksmanship Program as a 501c foundation that is protected from ever being shutdown by the federal government.   The CMP has never been funded by Congress.
  6. The CMP continues to operate five days of the week as it has in the past.   The email was about the stores.    The walk-in stores at Perry and Anniston that have cut one day of being open is because of the MASSIVE amount of mail orders.   The walk-in stores were always stocked after the mail orders were taken care of.  With so many mail orders to take care of, the stores are not going to be as well stocked as in the past so they are now open Thur-Sat instead of Wed-Sat.   I talked directly to the CMP Chief Operating Officer during my visit and his response in regard to the amount of Garands was the same as its been for the past several years, "2 to 3 years remaining."
  7. A lot of talk recently on this forum that the CMP is running out of Garands. Here is a very recent picture of 1600 M1 Garands at the CMP warehouse in Anniston, AL. 40 crates x 40 rifles per crate. While I didn't take this picture (a friend did), it is representative of what I saw earlier this month during a visit to the CMP. This pic only shows a small area of the warehouse and a small number of the crates. While I wouldn't call the warehouse "Raiders of the Lost Ark" in size and number of crates - - - it is a very big storage facility. The number of rifles that the CMP can inspect/repair/ship per day isn't much different than it was a year ago. However mail orders have increased dramatically with the panic buying from earlier this year. Frankly, it caught the CMP by surprise - - - the 2009 Barry Hussein election induced panic buying didn't affect Garands sales. Someday the CMP will sell its last Garand and that day grows closer with every year....., but the current supply on hand appears (at least to me) to be what has been the norm for the past decade. So "Keep Calm & Garand On!"
  8.   That is for the North (Camp Perry) and South (Anniston, AL) Stores that are walkin.  With several thousand mail orders, its hard to keep the stores stocked so they are now opening on Thursday-Sat instead of Wed-Sat.     The operation of the shops are still going strong trying to catch up with all of the unfilled mail orders for rifles, ammo and other items. The rifles all require inspection, repair and grading and mail order demand has exceeded the amount of rifles on hand that the staff can make ready for sale at the stores.   I was at Anniston two weeks ago.  The store didn't have near the stock that it had this time last year, but that was before the latest Obama Induced Panic.  The shops were as full as ever with rifles.   In the store I did come across a nice service grade Jan 1942 Springfield M1D Sniper.  It found its way to Tennessee.    :dirty:
  9. Not a problem John...., this just forces me to shoot something designed and produced in this century.  :biglol:   See Ya Saturday Night!
  10. John,   Last year 1911 shooters were at a disadvantage with our 8 round mags.....   Will there be a CDP, ESP, SSP, SSR breakout?   Mark
  11. OK......, now I understand.    My son has talked about going to the "Shooting Complex" with some of his fellow officers and I thought he was referring to one of the LEO ranges in the area.    Looks like a nice setup.  Didn't realize that it was managed by the TWRF.   http://shoottn.org/
  12. If it was the issued M68 CCO, I bet they used the OEM Aimpoint mount with the torque limiting knob. The PRO comes with the same style mount, updated with a longer spacer. My son reports no issues with the PRO's mount after a year in a patrol car, several training days, two range qualifications, and a couple of TAC Rifle matches. Even with a few dismounts, he is still running the same zero that we worked up in January of this year.
  13. Anything & Everything that Aimpoint makes is Rock Solid.    We jump out of perfectly good airplanes in the middle of the night with Aimpoints mounted up and nothing goes wrong with them.  I've seen M4s that were covered from IED attacks with the Aimpoint still mounted and working.      When it came time to gift my LEO son with an optic for his patrol rifle - - - He got an Aimpoint Pro.   And best of all it doesn't eat batteries like a EOTech.
  14. This is a great example of why my wife and I have supported Fisher House with our time and donations for near 20 years.  :usa:   http://www.fisherhouse.org/   Fisher House has one of the lowest – if not the lowest – ratio of overhead versus money donated. 96% of donations actually go to supporting those in need and only 4% in overhead to run the organization.    Unlike some other non-profit who hires big-name celebrities to make TV commercials asking for money.   Yes I'm talking about Wounded Warrior Project.  WWP raised $74 million in contributions for 2011 and then spent $57 million (77%) on administration, staff and marketing. The WWP Director was paid over $300,000.00 in 2011.  That means less than $17 million (22%) of the $74 million WWP raised in 2011 actually went to wounded warriors - - - the rest went to the "Project."
  15.   # 3 is the one that bugs me most.    If an owner wants to post their business, its their business and I'll take my business elsewhere.    But what gets me are the business owners who only want to make a political statement and do their upmost to Hide the posting and/or place it in a location that is near impossible to see.  Its an attempt to trap permit holders IMHO.   Their activism to promote, impede, or limit the liberty of others should carry no force of law other than the possible charge of trespassing after and only after being asked to leave.   AND THE DANG POSTING NEEDS TO GO BACK TO THE FULL SIZE STATED TCA AS BEFORE!  The signage needs to be in a font that can be read and in a location that is On The Entry Door!  That way everyone knows that the business is a "Criminal-Right-To-Work & Deranged Killer Zone."
  16. I think we're all in Violent Agreement here - - - You know what I mean, its when people think they are arguing, but fail to realize they actually Agree.   Kimber = Good.  SIG = Good.    The OP can't go wrong with either.
  17.     Hmmmm, Maybe the Wilson County Boys should shoot the last tactical rifle match with.......   "The greatest battle implement ever devised." - Patton
  18. John,   So we can "Double-Our-Pleasure" and shoot two guns (pistol & carbine) per stage during the 26 Oct night match?   Mark
  19. How about 20 yards and then a modified Bill Drill at 7 yards with my TAC OPS. :tough: The Bill Drill was from the holster, starting with 8+1 in the gun and then a reload from slidelock. Folks who have seen me shoot this SIG in IDPA can verify its accuracy.
  20. I now have several thousands rounds through my SIG TAC OPS.  Never a problem.., Zero.., None!   D**N Fine Firearm.    Here is a link to an earlier thread that I did on it....   http://www.tngunowners.com/forums/topic/52682-sig-tacops/   Also, SIG now offers the option on their 1911s of their SIG profile and what they call the traditional slide profile that will fit any 1911 holster.   I have Colts, Kimbers, and SAs, all with varying degrees of custom work.  But I Got to tell you - - - If its Serious Social Work I'm taking the SIG.
  21. Yup, great match.    I found out that my EDC didn't like either PMC Bronze ammo and/or three of my range mags.  Got to do a couple of malfunction drills.  Who said IDPA isn't training.      John, recommend to Dan that 23 Nov could be a good opportunity for a 2-Gun (Rifle & Pistol).    That way GRGC could finish out the year with a real Bang!
