  1. Well, having had the wrong end of AKs directed in my general direction (without results I'm happy to say) - - - I'm sort of conflicted toward the hero-worship some show this man. I will respect his product from an adversary's point of view, but I won't praise him or the system that developed it. However I would recommend that anyone interested in the development of the AK read "The Gun" by C.J. Chivers.  Very good reading.  His fact-based examination into the development of the AK will cause one to realize the Soviet myth that was built up around Kalashnikov.    Never forget that Commies (past or present) will never let the truth get in the way of a good story that advances their agenda.
  2.   A fine example of one of the Greatest of Truths - - - You Can't BS the Troops!    :usa:
  3. Runco my BBCode has always been working and I can do the emoticons.    However, still not able to do quote, paste, link deal.
  4. IE 11 is working A-OK on all of the other forums that I visit and with every website I go to.  Its even fixed some compatibility issues I was having with ebay and YouTube    Only with TGO do I have the "Quote, Paste, Link" problem.    I have to agree with Garufa comments in post # 10 (since I can't quote him).  It appears that the software being used on this forum is the issue.
  5. Outstanding!  Appears to have the original finish.   I already see a couple of WWII parts.  Rear Sight, Trigger Guard, Gas Cylinder Lock.   Looks to have a very nice HRA stock, note the "large porch" area behind the receiver.  If the proof mark is a without serifs, then its a HRA.   Just a fine example of a post-war rebuild.  With those barrel readings it should be a great shooter!   You Did Good!
  6. The best thing that the CMP sends (other than the rifle) is a little manual called "Read This First."   It does a great job of how to check out your Garand and where and how to clean and lube it before firing it for the first time.   Also...., Garands like grease.  Tetra grease that you can get at Walmart works just fine.      If you have any other question, just PM me and I'll put this CMP Master Instructor training to work for you - - - For FREE!
  7. Those garands from the CMP come out of the box sort of hungry.   I trust you have some enblocs loaded with M2 ball to feed it.
  8. leftyk82,   Looks like you have a Oct 1943 production SA on the way!
  9. Maybe what we need to do is start a new thread called "Show Us Your M1 Garand."
  10. Who I trust will never make O6.    But with this administration they might promote him direct into the flag ranks.
  11. Agree.   And I find it distasteful that the uses his commission as validation of his personal views.
  12. Hey Spurholder,   If he is a Regular Army LTC...., I'd be even more disappointed.   Way back when I attended the Benning School for Boys (Infantry School), our classes on the constitution pointed out that the 2nd implied a duty for all able-bodied citizens to be "well trained and armed" and ready to be called upon as individuals to defend themselves and the citizenry against crime and tyranny.   Reckon the part of Infantry Officer Basic Course has been dropped.
  13. Well Done!
  14. Several issues, but the Number One Problem is the complete lack of prior training on the rifle (pre-marksmanship training) before placing it in the hands of the new shooter and going direct into live-fire.
  15. Yup.   Its "Nutnfancy" on YouTube.   http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8KOL50CFx1A   I know a lot of folks like his videos, but I use this one as an example to new instructors on what poor coaching/teaching techniques look like.
  16. Of course this also results in some feeding issues with the M1.
  17. One other thing Batman......
  18. I don't think the lugs on the Krag bolt will handle 7.62x54R
  19. I think you would also have feeding issues out of the Krag's box magazine.   Also, 7.62x54R is a higher pressure round.   I would suggest a re-barrel to 30-40 Krag.   https://estore.thecmp.org/store/catalog/catalog.aspx?pg=product&ID=065CRI/3040R&item=&sfv=&cat=BAR&desc=&udc=&mct=&vndr=&ba=&pmin=&pmax=&note1=&note2=&note3=&note4=&note5=&max=
  20.   Be careful.  That finish on your 03 could be the original WWI era bluing or post WWI Springfield parkerization.   Up until WWII, the Armory put a black dye in the manganese parkerizing that produced a smooth dull dark-gray or black finish.  A lot of the early Garands will also have this black parkerizing and some folks will mistake it for the shiny "Greek Black" finish.   Is the barrel (1942) and receiver the same finish on your 1903?
  21. JMHO......,   I would leave them alone.    They can only be original once.   As you have described them, the rifles are an honest reflection of their history.    I know there are folks who spend a lot of time and money trying to make their military rifles "correct" and all matching, but what they are doing is removing the true lineage of the firearm.  I fully understand replacing a worn, damage or repo part with the correct part.  However trying to achieve a re-creation of how the rifle looked the day it departed the armory is sort of a false statement in my mind.  However, I do feel different about taking a rifle that has been sporterized and returning it to its military configuration.  That is mostly because "bubba-smithing" is known for being just a poor hack job.      And Besides - - - If you have ever been around soldiers cleaning weapons you know that no one is worried that all the parts "matching" for future collectors.   Again, JMHO.
  22. Interesting that their email address is....   "stabagunnut@........."
  23. Looks like one of the Wilson County Boys won the night Weapon Light.   Well Done Danny!
  24. Well........ :waiting: It was clear to everyone in our squad that the Day match shooters did a Sorry, and I mean SORRY job of Zombie Killing! The Living Dead came out in all of their Metal Madness in Stage 3, Bay 3. This weapon..., along with a mortar section popping illum in the night sky, would have been very helpful. :dirty:
