  1.   That would be the National Guard's Recruiting Assistance Program that is under criminal investigation for gaming the program that paid hundreds of millions in bonuses to Guard members who persuaded friends to sign up.   The National Guard maintains its own separate and distinct recruiting program and has refused for years to be part of the Regular Army's Recruiting Command.   State IGs (who are Regular Army) reported problems with the way that the Guard was handing out this money as far back as 2007.  Since it was "Guard-Color-Of-Money" that had been directly allocated by Congress to the Guard, the Regular Army could not and has not allowed to provide oversight.     - - - Getting Back On Topic - - -   Everyone has given good advice.    I would also add that the "Needs of the Service" will anyways change.  The personnel system of the military tends to look out about 6 months in advance.  Today its trying to reduce its overall numbers which tends to be a meat cleaver kind of approach.  7 months from now the system may very well realize that it kicked too many out of a certain skill and the recruiters will be told to go get more.     So my recommendation would be to keep your ears open.   You never know what the future will bring because, "Somewhere, just beyond the horizon, the unicorns are gathering......"
  2. My PSL was one of the scope-less ones that Centerfire Sysytems was selling. I mounted a 8x42 POSP with independent focus like this one from Kalinka Optics. https://kalinkaoptics.com/ Excellent glass edge to edge, the illuminated reticle is nice in twilight conditions and with the focus wheel I can adjust it to suit my eyesight. But if anybody else goes this route be ready to learn and understand the need to shim the mount in order to bring the reticle to center.
  3. I did the same thing Spiffy.   But my rulebook is in a TAC Cool Safety Officer RED binder.   :tough:   I am sure that Joyce Wilson really appreciates us printing the rulebook with our paper and ink so that the association doesn't have to send us one.   :stir:
  4. Good Deal!   Have you had the chance to shoot your PSL?
  5.   If they work that way, then you are good-to-go.  No reason to change anything.   A lot of folks were having feeding problems with these PSLs back in 2009-2010 when many of these rifles came in.  PSL magazines frequently have been disassembled and then reassembled incorrectly, whether by the importer, vendor or owner. If the magazine spring is installed backward, it can cause the mag to feed erratically - - - typically "nosedive" jams. I have several that had the spring in backward "from the factory" and they were unreliable until I disassembled them and corrected the mag springs. Correctly oriented, the loop of the spring goes toward the front of the follower, with the free end of the spring pointing toward the back of the magazine. This helps raise the front of the follower, and thus, the nose of the bullet, preventing nosedives.  In the picture you can see the clip were the front of the loop is placed.   Also, another way to check is on the floorplate where the free end of the spring points toward the front of the magazine.   But again....., if your PSL runs good with the mags installed the other way then there is no reason to swap the springs around.
  6.   Some of the best and most important "Good Army Training" that I ever got was the Combat Lifesaver stuff.   Its the only Good Army Training that I wish I could get a re-fresher on now that I'm retired...., because I know a lot of hard lessons have been learned.   As an example, sticking an IV in somebody was a big-time-do-it-now-do-it-quick-everytime sort of deal when I did my first CFS course.    Reckon we were worried about Dehydration.      Its clear that what theconstitutionrocks has pointed is one of those great "duh" deals.
  7.   Unfortunately...., Only the waiting list.    Membership is still closed.
  8.   Yup!   And as a note to everyone, TVA posted a sign as you come near the entrance of the steam plant that states "No Public Access" which DOES NOT apply to those taking part in a match at the GGC range.
  9.   Somebody brought a "guest" to the range and that "guest" was shooting the steel plates with green-tip 5.56.   My vote is to expel that member for a year for not reading the rules and allowing their "guest" to burn down bay 3!
  10. Dang! I knew I shouldn't have written all of those dates down on my Dillon Precision calendar in INK !!!!!!!!
  11. I know some folks use recoil buffers....., but as I understand it with an AK they can be a problem since the bolt does - sort of - kind of - can by design - bounce off of the rear trunnion.    Could be that a buffer could limit that loose fit that the AK is known for and make for a problem.
  12. Those PSLs from TGI were some of the best. Well Done! Make sure that you only shoot light ball (148g -150g) in your PSL. Regularly shooting heavy ball (198g) will transferred too much recoil to the rear trunnion which will eventually cause receiver rivet failure. Also, check for the correct position of the spring in your mags. If installed the wrong way you will get a lot of FTF.
  13.   I'm sure that would be a topic that Ambassador J. Christopher Stevens could have commented on - - - if he hadn't been abandoned.   ----------   Now, having flown out of Ben Gurion Airport in Tel Aviv, I wish we would look into how Israel addresses the issue of security.   But we won't due to political correctness.
  14.   TerryW, I didn't mean it so much as a correction, but as a clarification.  As Duck points out they can keep you from proceeding by detaining you, but a real LEO must make the arrest.    I like Duck's example of a Walmart loss prevention officer - - - perhaps that is the right way of looking at these TSA types.
  15.   As I understand it, TSA 'officers" have no arrest authority - - - regardless of their fake mall-cop badges.   Local airport police are the ones who make the arrest.
  16.   Yea I was afraid that was going to hurt you at 1000.  Might be OK for a mid-range 600 yard match.   Are you going to put a can on that rifle?
  17. 173rdABN, How did your AI do with that short barrel @ 1000 yards?
  18. From the press release......   “From the moment when we started to consider a location outside of the State of Maryland for our manufacturing expansion, Governor Haslam and his economic development team did an excellent job demonstrating the benefits of doing business in Tennessee. We are convinced we could find no better place than Tennessee to establish our new manufacturing enterprise. We look forward to building operations here and being part of your community for many years to come,” said Franco Gussalli Beretta, executive vice-president and a director of Beretta U.S.A. Corp.   Now if we can just get the Low Information Voters in Conn & Mass to continue to do what they do - - - Maybe we'll have Colt and S&W here very soon!  :pleased:
  19. For some odd reason I had the urge to shoot my Ernest Langdon prepped Beretta Elite during this month's IDPA match at the Gallatin Gun Club. Maybe it was a foreshadowing of the future....., a hint and a clue of what was about to happen. WOW! :dropjaw:
  20. Wonder if Barry Hussein will take credit for these 300 jobs coming to Tennessee during his visit to Nashville this Thursday?
  21. Sounds good....,  but will the oil make your beard too slick and slippery to maintain a consistent and repeatable cheek weld on you rifle stock?
  22. ".....Take those 4" steels and throw them in the trash, damn things kicked my butt !!!!!"   I agree.   No Way - No Way - those plates were 4 inchers - - - They had to be like...., ugh......, well maybe only about 1.5 inch!   :squint:     Well that is the size they had to be since my front sight post covered them up.  It was like shooting blind I tell ya!    AND that is my excuse and I'm sticking to it!   But Hey, let me tell you how to go about preparing to Shoot Your WORST in any match EVER!!!!!!!  :yuck:   1.  Spend the week prior practicing your old method of loading your 870 pump since you are going to be a Bad Ass and shoot Heavy Metal for the first time in years.  :tough:   2.  Reconfigure your battle belt since you stack your shotgun shells 180 out from the way you do it when running an auto.    3.  Read the "Matt in TN" post about needing super solid hits on the plates and he is thinking about going with tighter choke and #6 shot (gamer mode is now on).   5.  Buy #6 shot from a maker you have never heard of.   6.  DON'T do any live fire training at all with the 870 (or your 1911 or your M14) because its cold and you wimp out going to the range.   7.  Wake up the morning of the match and recall that your 870 is a Cylinder Bore.    8.  30 minutes before needing to leave, make the call to take your auto since you can screw in a IC and therefore you might as well take your AR and M&P.    9.  Load new ammo setup, throw extra ammo in Jeep, forget that your belt is now in its "heavy metal" setup.   10.  ALMOST forget to kiss the wife before driving away.   11.  Get to the end of the driveway - - - realize that your AR and M&P mag holders are still in the house and the M14 and 1911 mag holders are still on your belt.   12.  Re-kiss wife while running out the door since you are now late for getting to the match on time.   13.  Arrive at the range and go into a mad minute meltdown trying to recall how you had your belt before the heavy metal convert.  Forget about moving your shot shell holders.   14.  Look at all of the "so-called" 4 inch plates thinking those #6 shot will handle them with no problem, don't even try a sight picture.    SO...,   - The buzzer goes off and you are loading with the wrong hand with the shells pointing the wrong direction and your auto HATES those #6 shotshells from the unknown maker.   - You can't hit those 4 inch plates (they have to be 1.5 inch) with your M&P since S&W made sure that the fiber optic is POA/POI and you cheap-out with Walmart 115g whitebox and you are shooting low.   - Those high-speed glasses that the eye-doc made for you to focus on the front sight aren't the best thing in the world for seeing anything (like a target) out past 20 yards.  :stunned:   - And by the 4th stage, all that gray in your beard reminds you why you are in the senior division.      YET.......,   The folks in your Squad are great people and its a 63 degrees on a Sunday, in January, in Tennessee and you know that somewhere there are people hitting a little white ball along green fields that would make a great rifle range.  You feel sad for those golfers.    Great Match, Great Time, I'll Be Back.    Next time to run Heavy Metal!
  23.   I hear ya.   My son is a LEO and he thinks that anybody who OCs should at least have a nice tooled leather holster.  An engraved firearm would be a plus.
