  1. Hey El Guapo,   Which stage now has the 250 yard targets?
  2. Seeing is one thing...., Hitting will be "Interesting" for anyone shooting Iron Sights with a rifle that won't hold the Ten Ring at 200 & 300 yards! SR Military "Target, Rifle, 200 Yards" As used in NRA High Power Competition. X ring - 3.00 10 ring - 7.00 9 ring - 13.00 8 ring - 19.00 7 ring - 25.00 Of course in High Power we shoot standing at the 200 yard line. Reckon I'll be leaving the FAL at home and bringing the M14 this time! :bat:
  3.   Its a term that is often used in the S&W collector world.  Means that its a feature or item that is found toward the end or start date.    The trigger guard screw was eliminated during 1953 so there will be J Frames with the screw (like yours) and without it since S&W transitioned away from that screw during the 1953 production year.
  4.   That is where I got my SSA-E.  They ship fast!   I put that trigger in my F Class AR and my score jumped up 20 points at the last mid-range match at AEDC in Tullahoma.  A mid-range match is 600 yards and we are trying to hit a 3 inch X ring.   I'm very happy with the SSA-E and leftyk82's comment about it breaking like an icicle is spot-on.  For a long time I was resistant to the cost of these Geissele triggers, my Gold Standard for two-stage triggers being those gunsmithed by Frank White of Compass lake Engineering......, but now I have drunk the Kool-Aid and will always go for a Geissele for any drop-in trigger application.  :koolaid:
  5. 1. Paul C -       54.59 2. 173rdABN - 55.34 3. broox -        55.43 4. Michael H - 56.47 5. DMark -      57.22   Heck, I failed to engage one of the targets.  There were so many of them out there mixed in with the no-shoots that it was easy to lose track of where you had shot and not shot.      But I reckon that was the point of Stage 1.
  6.   Also don't discount my other young battle-buddy 173rdABN.  His times from this match aren't his norm.  He was clearing 2-3 malfunctions on each stage.  The ejector spring had gone weak on his AR.    When I offer to let him borrow a spare bolt that I had he said, "Thanks..., But doing these Immediate Action Drills is Good Training...."   :tough:
  7. 1953.   Congratulations, you have a five screw transitional variation.   Agree that it does not appear to be factory engraved, but a real expert in that area would need to view the firearm to make that call.    Heck....., I would carry it in a nice leather holster.
  8. Beautiful.    PM me the serial number and I should be able to date it for you.   First off its going to be before 1955 since S&W deleted the upper sideplate screw at approximately SN 75000.  Can't see if it has the screw in the trigger guard which was eliminated in 1953, could have the smaller early round trigger guard.
  9.   Third Overall - - - Doesn't that make me the High Senior Shooter?   What an Honor!          BTW....., In case you didn't know, Blaise is an Airborne Ranger with tours with the Ranger Regiment in Iraq and later as a Diplomatic Security Operator for the US Embassy in Afghanistan.   Good to see that some of our tax dollars were well spent!  :usa:
  10.   Recall that a couple of years ago, Metro went on a recruiting drive up in the North for officers that had been laid off by their local city governments.  One of former Police Chief Ronal Serpas' good ideas (along with fixing his son's DUIs).   Most of those officers came from socialist...., oops I meant democrat controlled cities.  Their background & experience in those socialist (Dang there I go again - I mean democrat) controlled departments established in the mind of those transplanted officers that licensed armed citizens are a threat.   Count it as a training scar.
  11. I've been an IDPA SO for over 15 years and have been watching this despicable action by Hendrix now for several days. I'm concern about what the frag pattern of this cheating might have to all of the shooting sports that use a timer. Already it seems that the range lawyers want the shooter to see the time immediately at the end of the stage. OK - - - Lets just make sure that we not forget that the main job of a RO/SO is safety. I've always try to show the timer to the shooter, but that is only after making sure that he/she has "Unload & Show Clear" and not immediately at the end of the stage while their firearm is hot. You can almost bet on the foreseeable future of the "PH Fallout Affect" where shooters will demand to see the timer with a hot firearm still in their hands.
  12.   David,   Appears that while performing RO duties, Paul Hendrix (former USPSA National Title Winner) has been taking time off of the timer for his friends and adding time to those who where completing against his friends.  The + or - of a couple of seconds could have, and most likely did, affect the outcome of several major matches over a number of years.    Its unknown if the friends that Hendrix was helping knew of the cheating.   There is now evidence developing that Hendix may have also fixed the time of the Classifications that he has run.  This would have helped his friends advance and kept other from completing against his friends in a higher classifications.    Bottom line......, this could turn out to be the shooting sports' Black Sox Scandal, Pete Rose, Lance Armstrong, et alia, all rolled into one.
  13. This was just posted over on BrianEnos.com    Posted from Chuck Anderson I just got approval from the BOD to do the actual investigation on this. If anyone has videos, names info whatever, please email them to me at area1@uspsa.org. If you're not comfortable sending it to a USPSA server, stop, take off your tinfoil hat and email it to my personal account at chuck@andersontactical.com. I need the video, native video ideal but I'll take FB or YouTube links if it's not available, and as much info as you can give, shooter name and number, match and stage it came from. I could also use the name and email of the person sending the info to me. If you don't want to give it I understand, but it's going to be prioritized lower than info that comes in with a name associated. I'm going to busy and won't be able to hunt it down spread across FaceBook and various forums.  Thanks,  Chuck Anderson USPSA Area 1 Director
  14.   You would think in a sport where the participants are carrying deadly weapons...., you wouldn't want to cheat them!  :grouchy:
  15.   So I went and read all 34 pages on doodie and looked the at the YouTube stuff.  Getting pass some of the immature language being used, some of the posters' analytics of the video timing data is very convincing that this wasn't just a couple mis-reads of the timer - - - this was a pattern of cheating that has gone on for some time.          I think this is a Really Big Deal.    This isn't some local match guys trying to make themselves look good.  This is a longtime RO, GM and former national champion who appears to have been "cooking the books" with his timer for several YEARS!    Think of the hundreds if not thousands of honest shooters that he cheated in that amount of time.
  16.   Very Good Point about the possibility of the timer picking up the slide going forward.  I have also made the mistake of bumping the timer up against something and it picking that sound up.   After having the shooter unload and show clear, I like having the scorekeeper Call Out the time as I show the timer to them.  That confirms to everyone that the time has been noted before the hits are scored.  Last thing you want is to be walking back for the next shooter and the scorekeeper asks you for the time - - - and you have fat-finger the re-set (been there, done that, somebody gets a re-shoot).   Meanwhile Getting back on topic.......   You have to wonder why anyone would try so hard to cheat at something that in its essence, is a pure measurement of one's individual skills.
  17. WOW!   Just WOW!  :stunned:   And to think that I stop shooting USPSA because they were always so much faster than me - - - Now I know that they were cheating....., and that was helped along by my being slow.  :ugh:
  18. A complete reading of the Bill will show that it really could be called the "2014 Increase in Federal Union Workers at the VA Enhancement Act."    It was written by Veterans Affairs’ Committee Chairman Bernie Sanders (I-Vt.).   Why the "I" instead of "D" for Democrat?  Maybe "S" would be too honest and true.  Sanders is a self-described Socialist and has praised European socialist democracies.   Of course he caucuses with the Democratic Party and is counted as a Democrat for the purposes of committee assignments.   His major re-election funds are from union organizations.    He never served.    He isn't a Vet.    However, in the 1970s Sanders was a member of the leftist anti-war & anti-military Liberty Union Party of Vermont.  The LUP had links to the Communist Party of America.    I reckon in today's Democrat Party showing hate for the military fulfills all that is necessary to be qualified to chair the Veterans Affairs’ Committee.   Anything that Sanders comes up with and that Corker works against is A-OK with me.  I'm trusting that Bob Corker was able to peel back the onion and see the rot.
  19. And Hooray for the Graybeards!    :woohoo:   Congrats to jmecklen for his win in SSP and bump to Expert.   Well Done John!
  20. UPDATE!   Got my "Don't Bug Us" (DBU) email today from the CMP.   "We have received and verified your recent order. We regret to inform you that we cannot fill your order for the requested IHC rifle at this time. However, your order will be placed on the backorder list to be filled with the next inventory this year."   Hey, being on backorder is A-OK with me.  I now know I will be getting one with the LMR barrel.
  21.   WOW!  :stunned:   And I thought I had a bad case of "Garandillitis."
  22. Outstanding!    You'll find that those VAR barrels shoot great.
