Agree with Djay3 in regard to FGs right now. Current FGs seem to be great shooters that just about always come with USGI wood. SGs also are great shooters, but better in the metal finish area and many are coming with replacement CMP wood. When CMP Sales contacted me, I changed my backordered IHC SG to a IHC FG. It came in with 2MW & 2TE on the barrel. It also had USGI wood that cleaned up Real Good! About the only CMP M1s that you need to plan for a possible barrel replacement are the rack grades, and the RGs are only being offered for in store pickup. Hmmmm....., now that I think about - - - I do have a couple of NOS in the wrapper SA barrels. Maybe a run to South Store to see if there are any pre-war RGs lying around is in order. :dirty:

This is just a reminder to always, Always, ALWAYS wear your eye protection!!!!! A couple of weekends ago I was shooting my 7.62mm NATO Navy Mk2 Mod 1 Garand in a local Vintage Military Rifle Match and this happen...... The round was an Atomic Match Ammo that I picked up at the CMP south store in 2012. This reloaded ammo uses once fired military brass with an Nosler 168gr OTM bullet. It is loaded for the M1 and M14. I have fired several hundred rounds of this ammo with no issues...., and will continue to do so. This thread is not to bad-mouth the ammo manufacturer, it is a warning to all of us not to forget that there is an explosion going on inside that firearm that is very near our eyes. The blowout happened during the single load, prone, slow-fire stage of the match. This was the 15th of 20 rounds to be fired. When the shot was taken a very noticeable boom was heard and the recoil was much stronger than normal for this ammo. I am happy to report that I maintained position, had good follow through and even with the round doing something odd - - - it was still a hit in the 9 Ring! AND - - - My eye protection was covered in black soot and fine particles! :stunned: At first I figured that due to the sound and recoil that I had fired a double-loaded round. 173rdABN, who was also firing the match, found the brass and it did not appear to show any overpressure signs. The design of the Garand limits the likelihood of an out-of-battery firing, so after an inspection of the bore, bolt and operating rod I finish the remaining five rounds. Wear your Eye Protection. Safety Rules are written in Blood, or in the case maybe a lost of sight. Stay Safe, and I'll See You On the Firing Line!

I'll leave the Barrett at home for now...., I keep telling the club that there is no way that the range could handle the Surface Danger Area of a 50BMG round. I'm going to shoot one of my small-bore ARs this Saturday since "somebody" talked me into a 3Man-3Gun next month!

Or Two Hits anywhere..., Or a Single Hit anywhere for Heavy Metal..., Is this correct for Saturday?

Well Done Matt in TN! You put the beat-down on the rest of us in Heavy Metal - - - and 9th overall for the entire match! -
HXP didn't start that fire!

And they will cost even more tomorrow.... Get them while you can folks. There will come a day when the CMP won't have anymore of these to open.

The CMP sells it in 30.06. This is Greek HXP M2 ball. The image above was sent to all CMP clubs and Master Instructors to show local ranges that while HXP will attract a magnet, it IS NOT an armor-piercing (AP) round that will damage a range's steel plate targets. Black Tip in .30cal and Green Tip in 5.56mm are AP and will damage a steel plate. Because of these AP rounds finding their way into the general shooting population, a lot of ranges outlawed them and used the magnet test as a means to check rounds. These ranges didn't know that some standard FMJ rounds use a small amount of steel in its construction. This was impacting CMP matches around the country when the Greek HXP became the issued ammo at matches. The steel jacket used in the HXP is very thin, mild and soft and was used only to shape the lead bullet itself during manufacturing. About the only issue that a range could have is the possible spark that could come off of it hitting a steel plate that could start a fire during dry conditions.

I should have more feedback after this Sunday's 3Gun match in Manchester. http://www.tngunowners.com/forums/topic/81978-3-gun-at-middle-tn-shooters-10-5-14/ It seems that all AR308 based guns have problems with aftermarket triggers. It has to be based on the larger size of the BCG. Over on ARFCOM there is a thread on issues using a Geissele SSA-E. http://www.ar15.com/forums/t_2_301/253728_PA_10_and_Geissele_SSA_E___NOW_IT_WORKS__.html&page=3 To Geissele's credit, they have jumped on the problem and have developed a fix. Their modification requires .015" off of the tail end of the hammer under the sear which is a non critical area of the hammer. Geissele Customer Service has posted on ARFCOM that instructions are being written that will make this an easy DYI. I'll have to shoot this Sunday's match with the stock trigger, but I plan to order another Geissele for this AR as soon as I get a look at their fix.

Agree with all of the above. Cheap stuff that runs in your guns will take care of 99% of all stages. But as a suggestion......... Have a couple of Slugs with you for those times when a stage requires it. Keep some 6 shot with you for when the steel plates are set for heavier shot. Also keep 20-40 rounds of good match-grade ammo that groups well with your AR when a stage has steel plates out pass 200 yards. And Finally..... Enough spare ammo in your vehicle as a backup just in case you have to re-shoot a stage.

Anyone run a black rear sight on you CCW?
DMark replied to maroonandwhite's topic in Firearms Gear and Accessories
Wide-Notch Black rear sights on all of my handguns for carry and competition handguns. Fronts vary - - - Tritium, FO, Gold. -
Who did you use for the hydro dip and why for the don't recommend?

I wish that was so...... Remind me to tell you how many times I just missed making the President's 100. :wall:

That was single load off a bench rest with a three shot group at 100 yards. Yea, I was very surprised with that good of a group as was 173rdABN. I didn't try to duplicate it, I think my comment while checking the group through my spotting scope was "OK - - - I'm stopping now!" I haven't tried it with any match ammo. The hits on the 10 inch steel plate were from the prone position un-supported at 4X on the scope. I didn't attempt to see how it grouped at 200 yards. Its a 16 inch barrel with a Midwest Industry 15 inch tube.

10lbs, 5oz Empty 11lbs, 12oz with 20 round mag. Happy that I don't have to hump it any farther than from my 3Gun buggy to the starting position. However, all that weight does help with the recoil. One of the funny things that I have noted is that after near 4 decades of running M16/M4/AR 5.56 based weapons - - - everything seems to be 1/8 to 1/4 inch more of a reach for my fingers due to the 308 dimensions.

I put it together using the new Palmetto State PA-10 Upper & their lower kit. The cost of the PSA stuff is crazy good. Here is a link where we discussed the upper. http://www.tngunowners.com/forums/topic/81620-palmetto-state-308-upper/ -

Yea, I missed the match this month, will have to make the Oct match. I should have my new Heavy Metal AR all ready by the 5th. That was why I was asking El Guapo the round count since I won't have to drag as much 7.62 with me as I would if I shot 5.56. -
Primary Arms is selling M3 PMAGS for $8.99. http://www.primaryarms.com/MAGPUL_PMAG_30rd_NON_Window_GEN_M3_Black_p/mag557-blk.htm?utm_source=bronto&utm_medium=email&utm_term=Magpul+Gen+M3+30+Round+PMAG&utm_content=Primary+Arms+Anniversary+Sale&utm_campaign=14-10-1+Anniversary+Sale

So its a round count per stage that you are showing, not a total number of targets. -
