  Please allow me to introduce you to the "Delightful & Wonderful Mrs. Kari (She Who Must Be Obeyed) U.S. Army Wife, Retired" and a public/private elementary school teacher for over 30+ years.   While at Bragg and Campbell she would have classrooms full of little boys wearing the same Airborne/Ranger High & Tight haircuts as their Dads.  Over 30 of marriage to me she watched my High & Tight become a Loose & Shinny!   Yet - - - She would agree with you that those who can't teach well seem to find their way into higher paying administrative jobs that at least gets them away from the student in the classroom.  That however often leaves those same administrators in a position to use their poor logic and methods at a larger scale such as in this case.

You're Da*n Right that folks who wear colored berets (as you well know the ones that have to be earned) don't say Hooah!    Funny thing is that its the Ranger Regiment guys who started all of that hooah stuff way back in the late 70s.  During my first tour with the 82ABN we would go down to Stewart and it sounded like these Rangers kept asking for "WhooAh" so much that I asked my 1SG who they were asking for (I know Dumbass LT question).  And nobody, NOBODY in the 82ABN would say hooah.   We also didn't roll our sleeves up like those guys in 2 BDE (but that is another old soldier story).   I think it was the movie Blackhawk Down and the actors over using hooah that began the self-censorship within the 75th...., but I'd have to ask Blaze to confirm that theory.   ATW-ABN!  :usa:  

With an original LMR barrel...., You Did OUTSTANDING!  :woohoo:   If that rifle was one of the leftovers, I wonder what the other IHCs looked like on Thursday morning when the doors opened at the South Store.   I got my "Tractor Gun" during the CMP's first release of IHCs last year.  My barrel condition matches yours and I will tell you that its one of the most accurate Garands that I have.

Not a single "Hooah" spoken?   No Green duct tape?   No MRE spoon?   No leftover Facepaint behind the ears?   Not sure that this guy is a genuine 11B.  :squint:

I'm like 173ABN, mostly 9mm/45ACP/5.56mm/7.62mm.   However....,   During each of the recent BHO Panics I had no problems finding and buying all the .38 Super & 10mm that I wanted at pre-panic prices.   So having a couple of cult-calibers can be a good fallback during those times of politically driven social activism.

CM1021,   First and foremost..., Congratulations on now having “The greatest battle implement ever devised.” - GEN Patton.   TONs and I mean TONs and good information out there for the Garand.   Here is a good place to start, the CMP's page where Garand nomenclature is covered.    http://www.civilianmarksmanship.com/nomenclature.html   For a Garand to be a correct grade every one of those parts would have to match the time period of the rifle's serial number.   JMHO, but most folks who worry about everything matching forget that soldiers sitting around cleaning their weapons aren't too worried about some future collector.  These rifles are meant to be shot.    Get some good 30.06 from the CMP along with a few clip (and YES - they are clips) and send some FMJ down range!    Enjoy!  :up:            

You Garand was made in May 1944. We would need several more and very detailed pictures in order to offer any estimate of its value. The term "numbers matching" in the Garand Collector world would mean that every component's drawing number, heat lot code, inspector markings, etc., etc., would have to be in the correct range for the rifle's serial number.  That requires a detailed disassembly of the rifle to confirm.  A WWII production Garand with all matching parts is rare and we refer to them as Correct Grade.    The bayonet is a Model 1905 that is referred to as a "cut-down" from when the blades were cut from 16″ to 10″ during WWII.  There should be a date on the opposite side of the blade.   The ammo is some of the Korean M2 ball that came in a few years ago.  It is very corrosive.

It is called an Item Unique Identification Code (IUID) used primarily for inventory control. It will have manufacturer's code, part number, and serial number. As btq96r posted above, everybody calls it the QR sticker. I reckon for Quick Reference.

Actually that was some fine MOI (methods of instruction) being displayed by the instructor.   He Asked the PV1 what the problem was. He Explained to the PV1 what the problem was. He Showed the PV1 what the problem was.   Then he safety got the PV1 off the range for I expect to be some additional training.    Well Done!

I think that picture of your cousins' house is an example of why you never hear of people retiring to the north.

  I learned the pure art of sarcasm from the over three decades of exposure to the expression of opinions (both spoken and written) coming forth from Chief Warrant Officers.   CWOs are the High & Distinguished Masters of sarcasm in the most indirect way.  They have the skill and abilities to tell someone/something to Go-To-Hell and have them/it look forward to taking the trip.   The closest I have ever come to such a high level of verbal gibe and taunt is my well-know and often voiced contempt, resentment, ridicule, mockery, and outright scorn for IDPA Rule 3.2.2 - Tactical Sequence.  :yuck:   I trust an Outlaw Match would have no such ridiculous engagement method.

  My post was sarcasm...........     Its been known for some time that he was a lying SOB about the CH-47 story.  The BDE CDR of the 159th AVN BDE at the time was a friend of mine and he has confirmed that no Chinooks from the 101st took any RPG hits during the push North.    With that said, while I won't be able to attend the match on the 28th, Kudos to MCTS for their support of Veterans!  :usa:
