  1. I carry a snubnose revolver because..... They are a great ankle carry BUG to my Colt Commander. S&W Airweight Model 37
  2. To be honest......    Reads like something that a bunch of Neckbeard-Air Softer types would be discussing over on ARFCOM.
  3. I reckon that just might feed your belt-fed for a little while.   That is if you can control & limit yourself to a sustained rate of fire of 100 Rounds per minute fired in 6 to 9 round bursts with 4 to 5 seconds between bursts.  :tough:       AND - - - don't forget the barrel change every 10 minutes.
  4. Got it.  Thanks!   BTW...., what time is the shooter's brief Saturday?
  5. Hey Dan, Is this the latest USCA rulebook?   http://www.uscarbineassociation.com/images/pdf/USCARulebookJuly2013v2-3.pdf   Mark
  6. My Dad was sent to the Korea War on a Troop Ship.    He always told me that he figured it helped in getting everybody ready for fighting.  You were mad at everything and everybody after crossing the Pacific on that "Damn Stinking Boat" as he put it.
  7. Doug,   Check with Ben Schade the gunsmith at the Lebanon Gun Shop.  615-478-9600   http://www.lebanongunshop.com/home.html   Ben is a real deal metal cutting and wood checkering smith.  Not just some guy who can only remove & replace parts.  He has done several jobs for me and all of his work has been first rate.   Mark
  8. Doug, Has the entire front sight sleeve been removed from the barrel like in this picture? Or has the barrel been cut back all the way to where the sight sleeve would have been? Bottom line, any good gunsmith should be able to silver solder a new front sight on for you. Mark
  9. It wasn't all that long ago that Staff Duty Officers & NCOs along with the Officers of the Day were always armed on Army Posts. I did my last armed duty as the Field Grade Officer of the Day in the early 90s at Bragg.  It was also SOP for units to man an armed Guard Force to control and secure sensitive areas.  Fast forward to post 9-11 and all the talk was about hiring rental cops to secure the post I was on. I was confused. When I suggested to the CG that we arm all senior NCOs and Commanders - - - the look of shock on the faces of the JAG and the Provost Marshal told me that my Army was no longer one that I recognized. The Army didn't trust us anymore......
  10. Contact info PM to you.   Enjoy!   Mark
  11. Got to admit that Glock 43 was a soft shooter.....   ..... still a Glock however - - - they all point high for me.   Fun as always JCoop.   And I got my Norma Hug for the month!

  14. Norma,   Great write-up on a shooter that deserves the focus and attention (but never seems to wish for the spotlight). She is an example for all of us.    Norma I knew we had something in common...., "picking up Dad's Gold Cup Colt .45 at 19...."   That is how I got started.   To honor our Dads, an Extra Special "Norma Hug" coming your way the next match we shoot together!    Mark
  15. All kidding aside....., watching the gas piston work its way back into the gas block WITHOUT the gas tube to guide it in was most impressive!   :tough:
  16. I have the very same AK-74 but with the Russian plum furniture.  Even shoots the same evil 7N6 ammo.   Accept Larry needs to check his sear engagement lug...., his hammer seems to be following the bolt going forward!  :dirty:

    PSA 9mm AR

Well Then...., getting back on topic!!!!!   The strange thing is, AR 9mm cost is higher than most .308 builds.  I have two of them on dedicated lowers, one a CMMG the other a Black Creek Precision.    The PSA setup got bad reviews at first because the bolt was not ramped and that affects what triggers can be use.  I had read on ARFCOM that the newer PSA bolts are ramped which is a good thing.    PSA supplies their kit with a carbine buffer which IS NOT a good thing.  9mm ARs are blow-back and need a heavier buffer to keep it running right.  Otherwise you'll get a lot of smoke, flash & bang coming out of the ejection port.  Also the upper that PSA is using is a total slick design that does not allow you to install a deflector for all of that smoke, flash & bang coming back at you due to the light buffer.  The good news is the heavy buffer will take care of that issue without the need for the deflector...., bad news - - - heavy buffers cost in the $50 and up range.  ALSO, it helps if the buffer is designed for a 9mm.  These have a little longer length that a standard carbine buffer in order to not break the extended BHO catch that 9mm AR requires.  Some folks use a H3 buffer for the weight, but their BHO can have some problems.   They can also be a bit weird and quirky about what mags you use.  My CMMG hates metalform mags (the gold standard) and loves the cheaper ASC mags.  The BCP runs either.   Once you do get all of this sorted out comes one last thing - - - you Have to get a mag loader to save your thumb while loading those 32 round mags because you will be having so much fun shooting the thing your mags will run empty real quick!   Enjoy!
  18.   If (Again I say IF), the CMP ever went into the 1911 sales business, I don't think they would price them much below the current market value.  The recent sale of IHC Garands (admittedly a smaller amount of firearms) where priced higher than most of us figured (about $200 + below market).     A review of USGI 1911s on Gunbroker shows sales in the $1200 - $1500 range for what I would call "Field & Service" grade examples.  My best guess would have CMP 1911s somewhere around $1000 + or - $100 or so.   I hope it happens...    But even if it did happen.......   The way this political regime slow rolls any law passed by Congress that it doesn't care to enforce or act upon doesn't bode well that the North & South stores will be building pistol racks anytime soon.
  19. Agree that there are worlds of great 1911s out there today. We are blessed to not to be required to only dealing with all of the old worn-out and war-weary 1911s that where the majority of the market only about 35 years ago (another than a Colt of course). But what the new ones don't have is this........ And the History that goes with it.
  20. You got lucky that 173rdABN just didn't crop the barrel off at the FSB!      He tends to do that......
  21. Had some really good first time shooters in my squad.   One was a 15 year old young lady who's FIRST EVER IDPA Stage was the shoot-house followed by the shoot out of the CAR stage!    I asked her if she even had a learner's driver's permit and when she replied that she didn't I told her....., "Well, your first driving lesson is to remember to sweep the firearm over the top of the steering wheel as you transition to the other window."   AND BEST OF ALL - - - She was using a IWB holster!  Outstanding.  Well Done!
  22. One thing for sure......,   Saturday will be the official start of the Summer Seersucker Jacket Concealment Garment season for me!  :hat:
