I'm not sure I understand your posts. First you tell the OP that he's a moron for not liking the AR format. Then you tell me I'm a moron for liking it. Maybe you'll clarify. Now to your assertions about my post. The HK you speak of is chambered in .308 carry a few 30 round mags for a little while and shoot the SOB and tell me how it's better than the AR and combine all the criteria I described. Shoot at an enemy at 400+yrds with a Galil or a AK 74 and tell me how they meet the criteria. They all exceed some criteria but fall far short on some. That was the whole purpose of the post. The AR is just well rounded. Now as far as accuracy, sure there are some great AR shooters with tricked out rifles out there, but the vast majority would not do as well with a military issue AR. Just tell a few of our military snipers that you're gonna take away their .308's and make them shoot an AR from now on and see what kind of response you get. Hell, you really want to get accurate, get some .30-378 Weatherby but watch your shoulder.

That's my memory of the law.

The 5.56 round is what makes the AR. It is accurate, has little recoil, light(you can carry for more ammunition than say 7.62x39) and is very effective. The AR is the most proven method of getting as many of those projectiles going in the direction of the enemy in the shortest length of time, period. Also factor in the lightness of the rifle, itself (greatly reduces fatigue if one needs to carry it for a long period of time). So, are there more effective loads? Yes, .308 and 7.62x39 come to mind. Are there lighter rifles? Yes, most 22LRs will do. Are there simpler rifles? One again, the answer is yes, get out your granddad's single shot bolt action. Is there a more accurate load? Get some .308. Is there a more reliable weapon? Try a bolt action or an AK. Is there a round that has lower recoil? Get yourself some 22LR. And lastly, is there a weapon system that combines all these criteria together in a better way? HELL NO!!!!

You should have taken some pics of that AAA walnut stock for the AR's. Never seen something that impractical that made my mouth drool (absolutely beautiful). I'm fixing to start my first actual AR build (this one will be for my wife), and may actually put one of those bad boys on it (the guy says he sells a lot of them but never to someone who only has one AR).

Here's my review: Drove to Winchester with my brother-in-law (roninnashville). Took approximately 1:30 drive time, from Nashville, which was enjoyable as we discussed guns, guns, and more guns. Got trapped by the parade when we hit downtown Winchester and subsequently got lost (did not know that was possible in Winchester) but was given great directions by the local LEO's (very friendly and helpful) and made it safely. As we walked into the show floor noticed that not nearly as crowded as I expected and not as many booths. But on further inspection of the booths, found that the actual merchandise was the best quality and best prices I have ever seen at a gun show. There was absolutely no crap. First quality stuff only and I was quite impressed. The Pope/Goodman/RK shows may be bigger, but you'll never find as much quality merchandise at any of their shows, or see better prices. My hats off to Joe and David for that. Now for the negative (I'm sure you saw this coming). My negatives have nothing to do with the event organizers or vendors, but actually the patrons. I've never been to a show with fewer people trading, buying or selling privately. I brought my Beretta to sell and didn't even get one "What's in the box?" except from a couple of the vendors. Also, I saw nobody carrying a weapon for sale or trade except myself (kinda weird). All told, we spent approximately 2 hours at the show and found it to be enjoyable. The smaller crowd actually gave you more time with the vendors, and more importantly, the manufacturers (just a hint, Clandestine Suppressors will do very well when they get their distribution going). If Joe and David are looking for pointers on a better show next time (I'm sure they aren't), I'd say stick with the same formula but try to get a few more vendors, especially for accessories like magazines and barrels. The other pointer I have is for the attendees. Next time, bring your money and your weapons. This is a gun show for crying out loud. -
Mosque Prayer Session Including The Enlightened One

deleted. Thought about my post after I posted, and realized this is not the proper forum for this debate. Hopefully anyone who read it before I deleted it was not offended. And no, I didn't delete with prompting from the mods. -
Pardue is one of Benchmade's designers similar to Ken Onion at Kershaw. I guess I can imagine it having his name on it without being on the website as such, but I could be wrong. I haven't actually seen to knife.
-
The 3550 is a auto knife. Unless TN law has changed (quite possible), it would be illegal. Take it back or sell it to someone who can legally own it.

If it was laying next to 3 ninja stars and a switchblade comb, it's mine. I must have dropped it out of my pocket.

As far as I know, they are not just illegal to carry, but illegal to possess. You're not even supposed to be able to buy them unless you're a LEO or millitary in TN. Of course, this make absolutely no sense to me. But when did our lawmakers ever use sense when passing laws. Are you sure it's a "switchblade" and not a "spring assist" knife? The difference would be if you have to touch any part of the blade to open it (spring assist) or if it has a completely independent button you push (switchblade). My suspicion is that it's spring assist because of the price. Benchmade is very proud of their switchblades, they usually cost upwards of $300.00 (most reviews are not good on them and consider them over priced). Just a pointer, when you respond to this post, say "Yes, I checked it and it's actually a spring assist knife".

Gallatin Gun Club Match This Weekend
tntnixon replied to HOGNUT's topic in Competitive Shooting Sports
If they are so open to "new shooters" why has their website always said "Our membership is closed and we are not accepting any applications at this time"? I'm a Sumner County guy, and probably would have joined a long time ago, but it seems it's easier to get invited to become a member at Augusta National Golf Club. -
Mosque Prayer Session Including The Enlightened One
tntnixon replied to a topic in 2A Legislation and Politics
The problem we face is this: Most people vote for a presidential candidate based on a feeling of whether or not this man/woman represents his/her values and ideals. Since most Americans are either Christian or Jew, they will more than likely vote for a Christian or Jew to represent them at our highest rung on the leadership ladder. There is nothing wrong with that. As a matter of fact, that is the basis of a republic. Now to Mr. Obama. His situation is far more precarious and potentially malevolent. He ran for president as one man and has behaved, before and after election, quite differently than was portrayed by him and the media. Americans can take most anything if it is "given to them straight". Americans become PO'd big time when they feel they've been lied to or decieved. That's the situation we face now. Not whether or not a black, a communist, a Muslim, or even a satanist is Constitutionally qualified to be POTUS. They clearly are. The the question most people have is: Are you the man who you and the media told me you are or some sort of Manchurian Candidate? -
I'm supprised they didn't report how many rounds of ammunition they had "stockpiled". That seems to be how they end every news story these days. This just in : Mayor Bloomberg declares the cause of the explosion is because of the lax Tennessee gun show laws. Film at 11:00.

This discussion is two-fold. First is the OSS vs One Shot Kill. Generally speaking, most defensive shooting specialists would argue that the point of defensive shooting is to stop a perp from doing whatever they were doing that made you want to shoot them, this is the OSS. There are some who would argue that the objective is to kill, but not many. We'll call this the One Shot Kill (OSK). The newer rounds are probably better at doing the second but not necessarily better at doing the first because it would be very difficult to top the already stellar percentages of the OSS in the older rounds. Secondly is the scientific arguement or lab vs real world. Do you think Jimmy Johnson would run a new car in the Daytona 500 without driving it, just because it did well in the wind tunnel? Probably not, he wants to actually drive the darned thing first on a real track. I would say the same about the new cartidges. I agree they are probably just as good if not better, but I don't want to put my life on the line for "probably". This is the same situation I faced when a drug rep tried to sell me on a new cholesterol medication for my patients. He argued that his drug, while more expensive, was more effective in lowering cholesterol and had the data to prove it. But, when looking at actual patients, one found that although the cholesterol numbers were better, the patients didn't live longer or have fewer heart attacks than the older drug. So whay would you spend more money when the outcome is exactly the same?

Guns and Ammo did an entire issue on just this subject several years ago. I kept that issue for quite a while, but I think my wife finally threw it away (it was my favorite issue ever, I pretty much memorized it). It was probably somewhere in the 2000 range, year wise. My question to you is: What do you mean by supereseded? Are you telling me that the "new" ammo is doing better, on the streets, than the older JHP's? Have they made it to the glorious 100% OSS? I think not. So if the OSS percentage hasn't gone up, what does the new stuff do that the old stuff didn't? The whole point of a defensive round is that it stops the perp. There is nothing more that it can or should do. As far as 15 years of Hydrashoks being out of vogue, I would recheck that. The new ammos have only been out for about 4-5 years, if that long.

anyone planning a trip to the guns and gear expo?
tntnixon replied to gotigers's topic in Events and Gatherings
Hey, I missed my wife's niece's wedding to go to the UT vs Florida game in 1997. Be a man and tell her family you don't even like them, much less want to gather for Christmas with them. If you're lucky, you'll be allowed back in the bed sometime in mid-2010, she might even start talking to you after the divorce is final. -
Once again, this article only deals with lab tests into gel with no "real world" data, and it only uses Dr. Roberts' findings. There have been others who have done the same tests with different results and the halmark of science is reproducibility, in other words, the same tests should produce exactly the same results. Having done a lot of medical research, over the years, I know that sometimes what we get in the lab is significantly different than what we get when we go to real people. The data I use is based on the FBI's data on real defensive shooting incidents, and I tend to trust it much more readily than I do the "ballistics gel tests". Until someone shows me a round with 100% OSS (will never happen), I'll stick with the old technology because it has far more "street cred", is cheaper, and 96% ain't bad.

Now, all you Knoxvillians expect us Nashvillians to come to Knoxville about 7 times a year so y'all can keep your economy going (not to mention sending our kids and the millions of $ that come with them). Why can't y'all return the favor, just once? -

Winchester is only 3 hours and 3 minutes from Knoxville, according to mapquest. It's 1 hour and 53 minutes from Goodlettsville. -
I would probably go with the M&P. The Kahrs are good weapons but a little finicky. They're also a bitch to field strip and clean. They seemed to have "over engineered" their firearms. The M&P is a simple design, and the simpler, generally speaking, the more reliable (fewer things to go wrong).

tntnixon replied to Oh Shoot's topic in Events and Gatherings
Why won't the shows just post the dealers who have purchased booth space? It makes sense to me. I'm going to the TGO show with a few freinds, but would really like to know what to expect from the dealers. The manufacturers are nice, but all they'll do is show me their products. I can't actually buy directly from them, unless there's something I don't know. And I'm assuming, even if I could buy from them, they would charge strict MSRP.
