Never, never, never trust the local weather guys. They're only in it to make money off of ratings. The truth is, they don't even really forecast weather. They get all their data from NOAA and then spin it any way they see fit. One of the few things the federal government does right is NOAA. So I always just go straight to the horses mouth. It's amazing the difference you'll see between what the local guy says and what the actual data shows (e.g. Local guy will say it's gonna snow 6", but NOAA says there is only a 10% chance of any accumulation). Check it out for yourselves www.NOAA.gov .

Is he'll freezing over--- I know it's cold but
tntnixon replied to Krull's topic in Handgun Carry and Self Defense
It's already failed first hearing in committee but was given a second re-consideration hearing. I doubt it will pass this one either (first vote was 0-5 against). -
Unfortunately (or fortunately depending on one's political leanings), this email is a hoax. Hey, I hate illegal immigration (shoot on sight as if encountering an invading army) as much as the last guy but would rather use the truth than a fabrication. Here's a little blurb from snopes: snopes.com: Pensioners Should Apply as Refugees

Is your friend Leonard Embody, by chance? Actually great rifle, kinda giving me the Jones for one, myself. Unfortunately, I think my wife has grounded me from making any more purchases for the next little while. 4 rifles, 3 pistols and the makings for an AR build, in the last year, have put the breaks on, for now.

I've always read (in the gun magazines) about the SHOT show and it sounded like the coolest thing ever. So, out of curriosity, I perused the SHOT show website. After reading what the set-up is, it sounds pretty lame, actually. Why in the hell would they hold the show in such an environment that is sooo gun un-friendly. They won't even allow the vendor/exhibitors to have working firearms on the property. I would think that the gun community would be in a all out revolt against the organizers. Also, why is it so closed door. I would think that the vendors would want as many people seeing their products as possible.

YouTube - Foster Brooks on Dean Martin Roasts This one is pretty good too

Has anyone shot one of these? I want one but not sure if the bite from the .357mag plus the muzzle flash will make it impractical. That a lot of powder for a 13oz pistol!!!

That's exactly his plan. Connecticut is a basically liberal state but even they are sick of Dodd. A different Dem, will almost certainly hold the seat.

I haven't seen one up close and personal, but the one's I've seen in pictures look "fatter" around the grip area making me thing the "feel" would be different.

My suspicion is that the R&D guys at Glock have already tried it and it failed. My gut feeling is that in order to make a polymer gun look and feel like a 1911, you'd have to make the polymer walls much thinner than they currently are and it can't take the pressure. If they could make a dollar on it, they'd do it.

You will find a little of everything and every thought process on here. You will think some people are a-holes and vice versa. There is pretty much a free exchange of ideas on here, some of which may be offensive (I don't think anyone on here has not been offended at some point or another). But mostly, you'll find people who are willing to share knowledge, have a love of firearms and a dedication to their family, their country and their freedoms. All that being said, WELCOME TO THE TGO, hope you stick around for a while.

I guess i sleep really good or i am not very aware.

Is that saying a magnitude 9.9 quake? WTF? A quake that big would separate the entire eastern seaboard from us. THERE HAS NEVER BEEN A 9.9 QUAKE MEASURED ANYWHERE!!!! 9.5 May 22, 1960 in Chile killed people in Japan and Hawaii from the Tsunamis. A 9.9 would be 4 times more powerful (the scale is logrithmic). -
Women aren't naturally better shots, they just don't try to teach themselves (like most of us guys) and learn a lot of bad habits which must be un-learned. Think about it, going to the range is almost as bad as going to the men's bathroom. You just look forward, don't acknowledge anyone around you and for God's sake, don't speak to anyone (unless you're going as a group). Women going to the range is a completely different story. This is one thing I have hated about the "gun culture", a unwillingness to teach each other properly.

Glock 27 conversion to 9mm
tntnixon replied to Getoffmylawn's topic in Gunsmithing & Troubleshooting
Yes, same concept. But don't get a g26 barrel. You need a conversion barrel and new mags. To change to G27, you just need a G27 barrel (you can use the same mags .40 and .357 sig are identical but you want to make sure you know what is loaded). -
Glock 27 conversion to 9mm
tntnixon replied to Getoffmylawn's topic in Gunsmithing & Troubleshooting
I have seen nor have I heard of any issues except with people who try to be cheap and use their .40 magazines instead of buying 9mm's. There are plenty of makers Lone Wolf, Storm Lake, Bar Sto etc. etc. If you want really good accuracy (this is a relative term when describing a sub-sompact), get the Bar Sto and get it fitted by a 'smith. For most uses the Lone Wolf will work fine and only costs around $100.00. -
My wife has a Taurus .357 mag in stainless. Decent revolver, easy to maintain, goes bam every time, loaded with .38 special it has very little recoil because of the little extra weight of the .357 (my wife only keeps it loaded in .38 sp), and well below your price point. If/when she gets more comfortable cleaning and maintaining (not to mention not limp wristing) a semi-auto, you can always get her another pistol.

Not true. Buffalo did not make the playoffs in 1973. One interesting thing, is only 2 out of that six got an MVP, Simpson and Davis.

It was my understanding that the NRA was not backing him, but I could be wrong about this. As for the taking a case to the Supreme Court discussion, I actually have some experience when it comes to that (my stepfather, representing my mother, won a case in the SCOTUS). To get a case heard before the SCOTUS, you usually have to have a situation where the Courts of Appeals are applying Federal law unevenly in different circuits. The SCOTUS sees it's role as correcting rulings by lower courts that disagree with one another unless you're dealing with a completely new area of the law. To my knowledge, MG ownership and manufacturing has not been ruled legal in some circuits and illegal in others, thereby the SCOTUS is unlikely to take the case because they'll consider the law evenly applied.

I love me some Charlie Daniels but saw him about 15 years ago and was sorely disappointed. He changed the words to each and every one of his "old songs" so that they were no longer about raising hell and kicking ass. I understand changing your views about things as you get older (I certainly have), but have some sort of disclosure beforehand or just don't do those songs at all because the sanitized versions of Trudy, Long Haired Country Boy, Uneasy Rider, Devil Went Down to Georgia, and Drinking My Baby Goodbye (I'm not sure what he he even called this one anymore) just plain suck. Kinda like kissing your sister (yeah, technically you're kissing but without all the good parts).

I have an exception to that rule. They should never, never, never be under the influence while carrying. I've seen and heard of a couple horror stories with intoxicated off duty leos carrying their weapons.

I work with transplant patients at Vandy (used to full time but now I float all over the hospital).

I've got some paper shells in m closet right now. A little affraid to fire them but really don't know what to do with the damned things. I'd say they are from just before or just after WWII from artwork on the box they're in.

Easy fix, get a Lone Wolf or Storm Lake conversion barrel. They're about $100.00 a pop plus the mags. P.S Sorry that the OP didn't like the grip suggestion. I agree that shooting it is probably easier without it. My problem was I kept dropping it when I was un-holstering it. Scared the out of me.

TN getting a jump on obamacare thanks to our State Reps.
tntnixon replied to seez52's topic in 2A Legislation and Politics
Unfortunately, we don't have that as one of our choices.
