We are now getting very close to dealing with a power that we don't understand, and that is very dangerous business, indeed. My suggestion is that we all agree to forget about the items that shall forever go un-named or refer to them only, as Rowling did, as the Deathly Hallows. Indiana Jones, Luke Skywalker, King Arthur, and even Frodo Baggins never went on a quest that is so perilous as the one being mentioned here. Moderators, for the love of God, please delete this thread. It will lead to the death of us all!!!!

Gubernatorial Candidates positions on guns
tntnixon replied to Mike.357's topic in 2A Legislation and Politics
Unfortunately, there is no data to suggest that they still won't "go to booze and cigs" even with the Pre-K programs. They are still exposed to the same when they go home. The real answer is to take these kids out of the homes, but god forbid that we do that. The truth is that the outlay of money to "childrens programs" is inversely proportional to the actual results achieved by them. While that may not make us feel all warm and fuzzy, it is fact. Our society has come to believe, wrongly so, that we can cure all of our ills by throwing money at it. That way we don't have to personally do anything, because the "gubment gonna take care of it for us". These programs actually reinforce this message. Think about it. These kids will grow up with the belief that they don't actually have to raise their own children because some government program will raise their children for them. Their children will have some government sponsored sense of right and wrong, which includes believing that they have no personal responsibilty (we've been doning this in our schools for about 40 years now and look what it's gotten us). -
This is proof that there is absolutely no correlation between production cost and price in the gun world. You basically have a Marlin that is chambered for .500 S&W mag. My suspicion is that they won't sell many, if any.

#8) While at the ammo counter in the Sporting Goods Department, whip out your weapon and ask "Do you have any ammo that will fit this?"
-
I too have considered starting to reload. Do most of the ranges allow you to rifle through the brass bucket? I've never reloaded, so I've never asked.

I totally eff'd up. I went to Cracker Barrel. BTW, I always have trouble with the whole bathroom thing while carrying. I only wear Levi's 501 jeans (button fly), because they fit well. I end up going to the stall to pee 'cause it's damned hard to pee and hold your weapon at the urinal. I hate it when there's a floater!!!!

They only really investigate you if you date the directors ex-wife. Otherwise, they send you on your way.

New to handguns, haven't a clue where to start!

Ever thought of a Cobray or Leinad .45LC/.410 deringer? They're cheap enough and they'll do the job but not the prettiest thing that you ever saw. -
Recently, heard all the talk abou the new Remington 1911's and Glock AR's, on this and other forums, to be introduced at SHOT. So where are they? Actually, other than the Bushmast/Remington ACR, S&W Bodyguard Series, and a few new Taurus hundguns, doesn't look like much innovation going on out in Vegas.

Is this over the last year, decade, century? 516 seems a bit high for a year, so what is the time frame?

+1 . The first time my friends came to my house for poker, they asked me if I had any "house rules". I said "You can smoke, drink, cuss, piss in the floor, vomit on my furniture and look up kiddie porn on my computer and pay for it with my credit card. But, if you so much as breathe a breath of negative air towards one of my schnauzers, I will kill you. Even though I saying this with a smile, so help me I will blow your brains all over my freshly painted walls."

BATF Notice Bans Private Gun Sales in TX????
tntnixon replied to ukerduker's topic in 2A Legislation and Politics
Whether we like it or not, there are some folks in the gun community who prey on the uninformed, in order to advance their political agenda (leftists do it too). This sounds like one of those types of things. I'm getting a little tired of the "Hey have you heard about HB (fill in number here) it bans (fill in your favorite firearm or activity here)" when I'm at gun shows or gun shops. The truth is bad enough and is easily verifiable. This report, unfortunately/fortunately, does not fall in the verifiable category. -

What was wrong with the original. If you're gonna wear a thong, it should be robust. Plus, when wearing a thong, you always know where your ass crack is in case you need to scratch it. -

All I know is I'd be scared to play Dungeons and Dragons against someone wearing that, much less be in a gun fight with one.

I had a momma deer attack my schnauzer last year because she got too close to her fawn. You would have thought she'd (my schnauzer) had been run over by a car. A deer can be vicious if it feels that it or it's baby is threatened.

Nice shooting. How many yards? But, this is not the result of the weapon, this is the result of the shooter, who happens to like this weapon better. My point has never been that the Glock/HK is better, but that "most" people will shoot just as well with a Glock as a HK and for far less money. They will also, almost universally, find the Glock easier and more comfortable to carry concealed.
-
I guess I haven't tried enough HK's because I still haven't found one that "fits" me. As far as all the different options go, I haven't been to a gun shop yet that has all those options available (they usually just have the standard models). So you pretty much have to order one and hope its gonna be the one that's gonna fit. I don't know anyone who has that kind of money to keep buying firearms, and taking a slight loss when selling it, just to finally find the right one. I know that Glock has the "one size fits all" approach (will be fixed with the Gen. 4's) but you can completely customize it for far cheaper than buying an HK. I'm not a "cheap-skate" by any means, I just want value. I realized this when I bought my wife a $50,000 Acura RL and realized that it wasn't twice as much fun to drive as a $25,000 Honda Accord.

What about people like me in a SHTF situation?
tntnixon replied to Tobashadow's topic in Survival and Preparedness
All chemicals have a time span under which the degrade, that's how carbon dating works. Everthing, if given enough time, will degrade down to hydrogen atoms (the building block of the universe). Expiration dates on drugs are regulated by the FDA and are very strict, actually more strict than the probably should be usually well within the drugs actual degradation time. "Expired" drugs are routinely taken on foreign mission trips and are used with good results. There are some notable exceptions to this, though. -

You will not die, in the short term, from not having your thyroid medication, but you may get fat. The big concern is if they remove the parathyroids in the process (they are small glands imbedded in the thyroid that regulate calcium level in the blood and are sometimes impossible not to remove) but this is an easy fix by taking a calcium supplement, which you can easily "stock up" on. The good news is that thyroid cancer is generally one of the easiest cancers to cure (I say generally because there are some rare types that are more problematic) and you should be just fine. That being said, I'll put you on my prayer list (even though I consider myself a medical professional and believe in science, I never discount my firm belief in the power of prayer).
