Colt Defender, an absolute jam-o-matic that neither the factory nor any local gunsmith could fix. A total POS IMHO. I cringe every time I see someone at a shop getting ready to buy one and want to stop them. I wish someone had stopped me.

Only if the give it a rifled barrel. BTW I'm still not convinced of the utility or effectiveness of The Judge. I know it makes pretty holes in a watermelon, but everyone I've seen shot with a .410 came out of the hospital as "treated and released".

TGO's biggest post whore, or Post Whore of the Year
tntnixon replied to Mike.357's topic in General Chat
Hell, I was proud the day I made "Senior Member" status, but at 1.58 posts/day, I've got some catching up to do. My problem is I won't post on subjects that I have no knowledge or passion about. I need to work on that. -
I know that you can carry your rifle to Canada to hunt with. Can you not carry your rifle from Canada to hunt with? If so, is there a limit to how long you need said rifle with you before you take it back to it's true home? Just a thought.

Congrats. If they film it, try to give TGO a shout out.

Well I've learned something if nobody else did. Big guys think that IWB carry is uncomfortable because of their size. Skinny guys, like myself, think IWB carry is uncomfortable because of their size. That tells me one thing: IWB is just plain uncomfortable, but we do it anyways.

That is the cleanest chainsaw cut I have ever seen. You are one lucky man. Usually, there is a lot more tissue loss due to the width and action of the blade.

Back in the day, the only way you got to hear any of those metal bands was by word of mouth. None of the radio stations would play any of it except at midnight on Sundays when "Metal Shop" would come on. Going to school on Monday always sucked, having been up half the night. I find it amazing how mainstream Ozzy, Metallica, Iron Maiden, Dio and AC/DC have become. You weren't allowed to listen to any of that stuff unless you were a long-haired juvenile delinquent stoner, in my day (I fit the criteria back then). Last AC/DC concert I went to, it was a bunch of yuppies and no pot smoke. Oh how times have changed. They used to just pass joints up and down the rows, when I was a kid and nobody turned it down or cared. Sorry for waxing nostalgic. Those were simpler times with no responsibilty or cares in the world. You didn't have to worry about paying your motgage, having the government take your money or having some street thug shoot you for no apparent reason. The '80's had a kind of magic about them mostly becase a gentleman by the name of Reagan made us feel safe, secure and free.

With all the talk of pocket carry, it makes me think about one of my dilemmas. That being the loss of my pockets. When I pocket carry my J-frame I lose one pocket and then have to get everything else in my other pocket, which kinda sucks. Also, for pocket carry guys, do you carry extra magazines or speed strips? I always have but lately I've been thinking it may not be a good idea because by getting my hand in my other pocket to get the rest of my stuff, I'm probably exposing it to a lot of lead which may find its way into my body. Any thoughts on this?

Tennessee Businesses Lobby for Amnesty for Illegal Immigrants
tntnixon replied to a topic in 2A Legislation and Politics
For once, AR, I disagree on one of your points. Capitalism encourages competition, whether it's for production or for labor. Part of our problems are the fact that we have discouraged competition with foreign labor and created a false economy in the US. Our workers demanded "more money", so we gave it to them and in turn printed more to satisfy the masses as well as discouraging competition with the rest of the world. All "more money" did was drive inflation and devalue the dollar. In other countries, the same amount of money will purchase far more products and services because the market actually reflects true value. Not so in the US. We are long overdue for a period of deflation or super inflation that will shake the very foundations of our economy. We have played a "shell game" for far too long and the debt is coming due. The typical American family now requires two incomes to do what one income used to do. During the Eisenhower Presidency a dollar was worth 1/37 of an ounce of gold. Today the same dollar is worth 1/1227 of an once of gold. If you consider gold value as stagnant, as I do, then we are quickly losing ground economically. The average household income in 1960 was $6691/yr which if you apply the gold standard would be $221,888 today (kinda sucks to think of it). So, in turn, I actually think we should be competing with foreign competition. It might be the only way we can get back on track and actually become the nation of our forefathers. There was a time when Americans were that "cheap labor". Americans used to do those jobs nobody wanted and we thrived. We became the envy of the world for that very reason. We actually had the right to negotiate on our own behalf for a wage that was established by the employer and the employee. We didn't have the government placing a value on us, we were free to determine that for ourselves. Unfortunately, the illegals have that right that we have given up which actually makes me envy them quite a bit. Now all that being said, I do not believe that illegals should be granted amnesty. Their very first act on American soil was to commit a felony. If we choose to keep are current immigration scheme in place, I believe we should enforce it with all of our power. However, becoming the America of old where we opened our borders freely might not be such a terrible thing. It is what made America become what it is. That steady stream of immigrants to Ellis Island, and the like, kept those Americans who were already here from becoming complacent and forced them to compete and produce. We are now mere consumers and not producers. -
January 1985, standing outside the Municipal Auditorium for the Iron Maiden/Twisted Sister concert. Had been snowing all day and was freezing cold. My brother and I were complaining about the bitterness of the weather when the guy in front of us said "I got something to take the chill off" and produced a few tiny purple pills in a cigarette cellophane wrapper. My brother and I eagerly grabbed up the contents and paid the guy $2.00 a pop (we partook of just about anything when we were teenagers) and under the tongue they went. Let me tell you, LSD and Iron Maiden concerts do not mix. That was 3 hours of pure hell and a valuable lesson. For the record, I no longer do drugs, but had my share during my younger and wilder days. Now, I'm old and boring and glad to be just that.

I'm not sure of the efficacy of "Qickclot", a lot of those fast clotting products will actually do tissue damage and make suturing difficult. If you can get it, thrombin or Surgifoam would be better but thrombin is insanely expensive and would require an Rx and storage is a problem. And yes, you would have to get an Rx for lidocaine because people can have severe allergic reactions and if too much is used it can cause cardiac arrhythmias

That's what I say when it comes to getting on a ladder. I used to be able to go up them until a buddy of mine fell off a 6 footer and was out of work for 12 weeks. Chainsaws don't scare me as much because I am extremely careful, almost girlishly so.
-
Without lidocaine? I've pulled fishing hooks through my hand but I numbed myself up pretty good.
-
You're more man than me if you can use that 4.0 Ethilon on yourself. I can stitch someone else but not myself. If you can get a holt of some 1% lidocaine for your bag, you wouldn't be sorry.

You big guys have it made. I'm 5'11" 160LBS and don't have enough fat to keep my pistol from rubbing on my sciatic nerve. Sometimes I'd just like to OC, but don't. It'd be much more comfortable with a strap on my leg, but that's the price you pay for CC. Anyway, back to the original topic. Whether you're large or small, the key is finding something that balances comfort and conceal-ability (not an easy feat). Don't go out and just buy a holster because someone else suggested it. Most of us have a drawer full of holsters that didn't work, and they're not cheap. Go and try as many different holsters as possible, at as many shops as possible (mail order gets you a very expensive lesson) with a minimum amount of clothing and keep in mind that you will have this thing on for hours at a time. A good holster is worth as much diligence as your weapon choice.

At this point, I'd much rather find a John Galt. I'm coming to the conclusion that we will never recover until we are truly brought to our knees. I had a 103 year old patient in December of 1999 (she missed seeing 3 different centuries by a mere 3 days by passing away on December 29th, 1999). She was quite possibly the wisest young lady I have ever had the privilege to have met. I asked her about all the changes she had seen in her lifetime and she gave me some pretty startling revelations. Her most poignant point was that she had seen "times like these" before in her life. She was actually an adult during the 1920's and recalled that those years were "just as bad as it is now". She recalled the gang violence, the drugs and alcohol issues, the immediate gratification mindset and the lack of general morality that existed during those years. Then she said something that I'll always remember, "It took The Great Depression and a World War to put this country back on track. God help us if that's what it takes to get us back on track again".

I'm not really sure about the .50 pistol rounds. Bigger has not always proved to be better when entering the human body. The "gold standard" for pistol calibers is still the 125gr .357 Magnum, which is far smaller than the .45ACP or the .44 Mag. As a matter of fact, the .44Mag has never been proven to be that great in defensive shooting scenarios. There is indeed a "sweet spot" of penetration vs bullet retention vs expansion vs speed. Hell, I guess I had to be the a**hole who had to give a staight answer to a silly question.

Have put together lots of people who were shot by a 9mm to go back to doing what they were doing when they got shot. Very rarely have I put a 40S&W shooting "victim" back on the streets. .45 and .357 shootings are so rare, nowadays, I don't think I've ever seen one come into my hands. May mean they didn't make it to the hospital due to being pronounced on the scene, though.

The other thing of note is the "4" barrel or less" notes on many rounds, which constitues the majority of concealed carry weapons, negated almost all the advantages of one round over another.
