Sorry... not trying to open a can of worms. No. I have not seen, nor read of any encounter like this. So you do have a valid point. I agree with you that most criminals are cowards. I have not seen very many people carrying open myself. It could be just because of my general location though. "On someone putting two to the back..." I agree, I haven''t ever heard of this happening with opne carry."It just has seemed to me that if you don't look like a threat, than a bad guys attention will be focused on something else..." I agree with you. On the on onstart of an encounter I agree completely! In a situation where you have one "bad guy" and three citizens (one open carry) I rather have his attention focused more on the most obvious and realistic threat to him. The open carry guy. I'm not saying have a passive deminor, but if two guys look alert and assertive I would be paying more attention the the one who is carrying openly. Good point on the transition. Another thing to consider might be the surprise affect that it has... from sheep to wolf with the flick of the jacket. Then the BG has a completely new situation to deal with that he might not have planned on."I'm not knocking anyone that open carries! What you want to do is cool. In fact I may choose that mode one day myself." I like hearing other people's opinions and reasoning. What mode works for me today may not work for me tomorrow. I'm not dogmatic and like to form my own opinions in part by the advice and experience of others. Always seeking a better way to do things. I try not to be closed minded. *Couldn't figure out the quote thing just right.

I not sure emailing the manager, or calling him will do any good. Most things like this come down to "HR" canned policies. Not saying you shouldn't, but i don't think you will get the results you hope for. The CCW community is still a rather small (quiet) demographic. On Open vs. Concealed Carry... I have never understood the interest in open carry. I prefer mine to be concealed whenever possible. I am no expert in tactics, nor do I claim to be, but I have always been of that opinion that a concealed weapon can be more an advantage than an open one. I realize that one opinion of "open carry" is that it can discourage any trouble. It has always seemed to me that if I was up to no good, the first thing I would do in a store is see who is the most viable threat. If someone is carring openly that would be the threat to deal with first. That could mean the bad guy could put two in your back and you never know what hit you. (Yes I agree you should have situational awareness at all times, but I don't fully think everyone can be 100% alert 100% of the time. I could be wrong.) It just has seemed to me that if you don't look like a threat, than a bad guys attention will be focused on something else. I do admit that a positive alert, assertive posture is needed to help deter a potential problem, I think creating a mindset of "Is he armed? Where is it?" is also a good tool to have. Disclaimer: I'm not knocking anyone that open carries! What you want to do is cool. In fact I may choose that mode one day myself. Just right now I am more comfortable with concealed. Also this post excludes tax, tags and financing. Dealer retains rebate, limited to stock on hand. Post not valid in RI, or CN.

I got a chance to shoot on ea while back. I must admit I was very skeptical about the "10" but it was based off what I had read and some second hand comments. I shot a 10mm also in a 1911 (5" barrel) it was completely controllable, functioned flawlessly, and was a joy to shoot. Even with my hands (they are small) I was amazed at both balence and recoil. And yeah I started day dreaming about one. LOL!!! I'm pathetic.

Satisfaction, revenge, relief, etc... I have shot Apples, Oranges, a couple of pumpkins, and some potatos before. Pretty neat. (All had started going bad.)

Middle TN: Class III Demo and all around good time?
creeky replied to BimmerFreak's topic in Events and Gatherings
Just depends on which weekend for me. Winchester is a heck of a lot closer than Knob Creek! -
I also view them as tools. I own an HK Compact mainly becuase it fit my hand better than anything else. The only other that felt like it fit was the Sig 239, but the decocking lever was awkward for me to get to. If someone prefers the 1911, and shoots it well, I could care less if they want a "pretty one". Or wanted to dress it up a little. Stainless doesn't shoot any better than blue to me. I am more impressed by how well the operator can handle the weapon as opposed to how pretty it is. Nothing is sadder than seeing a really nice fast car being driven by someone who can't work a stick shift. I shoot as often as I can, for enjoyment and to try and get better each time I go to the range. I have never been in the military (but I did have over 200 plastic army men under my command once, sadly they were all lost... I... I... blame myself. ), and I also have never served in Law Enforcement. Maybe that has an affect on how I view personal weapons, I'm not sure. One thing I have noticed... it seems that what someone carries seems to reflect a lot of their personality. Maybe it is our collected gun culture, and history. Sorry... Back to topic... I haven't ever shot the .45 Gap but would love the chance.

The Average Joe, checking in...
creeky replied to The Average Joe's topic in New Member Introductions
HEyyyy Joe! Nice to see you digitally hang'n out here. (Now if I could only get him to buy an HK, or at the least something,... ANYTHING in .357 sig! ) Oh yeah... are you stalking me? -
My wife has an AK Varient (Maddi). She is 5'2" and loves it. I have been trying to get her to warm up to my AR (Has a collapsable stock) but she likes the weight and the kick of the AK. Says it feels like a REAL gun! LOL! She has also been asking me if there was a way to make it more "Girly" and was just asking me if I could do something to make it "Pink" or "Purple". Can't wait to show her that image of teh Pink AK. I have been thinking of trying my hand at using some of that DuraCoat stuff. But still undecided. Back on topic... My wife has short arms and prefers the her AK over anything else she has shot so far. She shoots mainly Bowling pins, and has never really had much on an interest in shooting long ranges with my other stuff. So her AK is a great fit for her.

Does Alabama honor TN CCW Permits?
creeky replied to creeky's topic in Handgun Carry and Self Defense
What also muddles the water is "Reciprocity" vs. "Honors". As I understand it (I could be wrong though) "Reciprocity" is a written binding aggreement between the two states, while "Honors" is a looser term where no actual written agreement exists. So in theory states that "Honor" can change that status at any time. A new AG, a new governor could seek to remove the "honors" status. I wish we could have a Federal Carry Permit to cut a lot of the poltical, legal crap out of it. But I am a realist, so I know that won't happen. But the thought of being able to carry in Maryland and New York and they not being able to do anything about just makes me all warm and fuzzy inside. -
Does Alabama honor TN CCW Permits?
creeky replied to creeky's topic in Handgun Carry and Self Defense
I have had my permit for quite some time. I got mine right after the law was changed so you didn't have to be bonded to carry, and you didn't have to qualify with the gun you carry. At that time there was very few states that were even issuing permits, much less even thinking of reprocicity back then. In the past I have called an AG office, and be put on hold only to be told 'yes', then when I asked for something to be faxed to me from the office stating it to be put on hold again... then told 'no' they did not honor it. Laws change everyday. Even if I got my permit today and an instructor tells me "Sure you can carry in State X", it does me no good on the side of the road with an officer that may not be up on the latest reprocicity aggreements of his state. A simple sheet of paper speeds up a traffic stop nicely, as well as helps prove no crimmnal intent in a court should the information be outdated. Many states websites make reprocicity agreements easy to find. Alabama's was not one that was easy for me. Since a large body of the members here seem to be CCW holders I thought this might be a quick way to grab a direct link. Sorry for showing my ignorance. Perhaps I need to lurk around the boards a little more. -
Does Alabama honor TN CCW Permits?
creeky replied to creeky's topic in Handgun Carry and Self Defense
I got a reasponse from the AG office. For future reference here is a link: http://www.ago.state.al.us/ag_items.cfm?Issue=64 The answer is yes. (Would always check this link though before traveling to make sure nothing changes on you.) -
Hello... (new guy here)... I'll be traveling through Alabama this weekend and next. Does anyone know of a link (On Alabama's Website.) that will let me know if they will honor my CCW permit while I am driving through the state? (Preferribly one that I can print off saying that they do, to keep in the glove box.) I have checked Packing.org and TN Firearms Associations website, and while they give the impression that they honor them, but no direct links are provided to say for certain. Never have liked the "I read it on the internet" defense. (I like to have the agreements printed out of the states I travel through and have them in the glove box. Speeds up the occassional traffic stop.) Anyone got a link they can pass on? Dug around on Alabama's gov site but couldn't find anything.

Thanks 'Old Chief'. Like your avatar. My Dad was a Freemason. Always good to see the compass.

Yeah. Dennis is a great guy. I worked with his brother-in-law Mark for years and even with his daughter for a couple of years. Dennis's brother built my AR. And to everyone else. Thanks for the welcome. So far I am having fun just digging my way through all the previous posts! Lots of great information in there.

Hello... Found this forum through a link from another forum, which was sent to me from an email from a friend. (Uh... the important thing is I found this place I guess. ) I have just spent about an hour reading through various threads and I liked the tone of the members, and the "personality" of the board so I thought I would "Sign up." I used to handload (before kids) now that they are getting a bit older I may start back. I shoot mainly with friends or at Guns and Leather. (Love the electronic targets... hard to go back still stuff after that.) I also shoot bowling pins, and paper. My main two guns I am shooting most now would be my HK USP Compact in .357 sig and my AR-15.
