AR "SBR" Upper Suggestions...
creeky replied to creeky's topic in National Firearms Act (NFA) Regulated
Will do. Shouldn't be a problem. At first it seemed pretty simple task... Pay "the man", get the stamp, order a upper... and your there. The more I read on it, the more there seems to be more things to consider. But I will confess that I may be thinking myself into a corner by putting this much thought into it. I'm expecting "funding" to be in place by October... so that puts things closer toward the end of the year. -
AR "SBR" Upper Suggestions...

Any regrets? Or anything you'd do different? Also... do you use anything to dorect the muzzle blast forward? (Like the "Noveske KX3"?) -
Ahhhh yes... the mind numbing questions continue. I continue to research switching my AR over to an SBR. (Been reading threads on Ar-15.com, and M4carbine.com.) I'm looking for opinions and suggestions for uppers. I am leaning toward a 10.5" or an 11.5" flat-top upper... Some people are saying stick with LMT or CMMG, that they are the best, and you "get what you pay for", and that the extra "100" or so you pay is well worth the investment. What has been everyones experience? I'm also curious about the twist, I would like to get a "can", for it later and have been reading some about "baffle strikes" from bullets not stabilized because of the short barrel. (I have also read that you have to watch what can you get because some of the warranties only allow them to be used with no shorter than 11.5". I am begining to think that I am reading too much on the subject. It seems like one thing contradicts the other sometimes.

I have thumbed through it. The art style (if I remeber) didn't really appeal to me. I need to thumb through it again. Same way with Frank Miller's "300". Great movie, but the novel's art style kind of put me off from it. Quick and not so suttle plug ... I just finshed my first printed story. Well, short story... it's a 4 pager in a compilation piece with other members of the WebComic Collective I am in called Eyeskream. It's also my first "Zombie Comic!" I'm hoping it will be out in a couple of months. It's called "Playground of the Dead!"

I'm the same way. I prefer the collected work. I have thumbed through the Zombie handbook, and hav ebeen meaning to pick up a copy. I love a good zombie flick myself. Still waiting on "28 weeks Later" to come out on DVD. "28 Days Later" was really good. I saw a Pelican First Aide case on the HKPRO forums once that a guy turned into a Gun Case to hold his USP .45 and extra mags, a guy on the board pointed out that he needed to remove the "First Aide" and leave the "Red Cross" and put the words "Zombie Defense Kit" across the top in Red. LOL!!! That would look so cool.

I would suggest the graphic novels "The Walking Dead". It's a great book. They too take up in a prison. It's a really good graphic novel with lots of twists. Still printed, I think it's on Vol. 7 now. (Plus the regular monthly comics.) It's in black and white. The first artist was replaced that drew it. I liked his style better and his shading was awesome. Here is a link to some of them on Amazon.

...yet... I have a friend that works for a little side dept. meets with the Dept. of Homeland Security (Health related stuff), and they and they have these meetings he has to goto. I keep trying to get him to bring up "Zombie Infestation" when they ask for anythng else they need to cover. You know, have a power point with charts and graphs.... be all serious. LOL!!! He just keep saying something about "that not going over too well" and something about "career killer"... whatever that means! LOL!!!

I have a Marlin Lever action in .357 as well. Got it for Christmas when I was 16. I was really high step'n that Christmas. Love mine. (No saddle ring though.) I added a williams peep sight to mine.

Got a Mark II Ruger that my Dad bought me when I was 15, that puts it about 23 years old and I still love it. Never has given me the least bit of trouble. My bro-in-law has a Browning .22 and seems to jam from time to time. It could be the ammo, or other things... I'm sure the browning over all is fine. He really likes it. (I don't care for the way it fits in my hand.)

Glad to have you here "CHR"! I'm a "C of C" as well. Don't sweat the mac stuff, I got you covered there. Again, glad to have here.

I try to disarm them with my charm. (If that fails a quick kick to the groin.)

The reason everyone drives Suburbans in Texas

I love mini-guns. They are just too cool! -
So if I was to be transfered to a non-ClassIII friendly state, and my brother-in-law was named on the trust with me, he could keep the weapon in his possession while I am living in another state? Then when I am able to come back or transfer again to a more Gun Friendly state, I could once again take possession again? Does that sound right? Plus the "AR" that would be made into a SBR, would have the trust's name engraved on it as opposed to my own name? (Just trying to get this stuff straight in my head.)

I had thought about PM'ing "HeroGear" or "ETS", but then thought others might be wondering the same thing. I have been trying to read and gather as much info as I can on both SBRs (from AR-15.com), Suppressors, and the whole paper process. (I talked with Frank from ETS (At least I think that was you?) at a gun show at the Ag center... and well... that small conversation was just enough to really get my wheels 'ah turning!) Question: What are the benefits of using a "Trust" for attaining an SBR? (Or Can, etc.) Any info would be great.

Your not alone! The best I could come up with is what "saintsfanbrian" said... Don't know what you call it, but I can hit doing it.

Can't blame you there.

Thanks "Molonlabetn"! I'm hoping to be in better shape to buy things in a couple of months. If I come walking in the door with anything except a 239 9mm for my wife... she'll have my hide to door in no time. <-(Favorite smiley BTW) And I have looked at your Sig posting... a couple of times! To be honest, I'm surprised you are selling it. If all goes well I'm hoping to get her a 239 9mm, a couple of AR lowers (for my boys) and thinking of SBR'ing my AR. (Still investigating everything on the SBR. Trying to decide what I want how best to 'Get there'.) There are a couple of things on "my list" that I am wanting.

My Wife just shot a friend of mine's 239 this past weekend. It was in 9mm and she fell in love with it from the first shot. (She had been shooting my HK USP Compact in .357sig.) It didn't take her long to putting them where she wanted them. She remarked on the way home it was one of the few pistols that she has shot that just "Felt Right" in her hand. I'm hoping to get her one in a couple of months if all goes well. (I really like the 239 as well, and almost bought one in .357sig... but then I found a deal on the HK and went with it. It some ways I would still like to have a Sig239 in .357sig.)

I can't help but think the first people to buy these will be the "thugs".
-
And that they look "disgruntled".

I work in Cool Springs as well, on the fourth floor of a building. We have the same electronic system. I carry mine in my wallet for just that reason. But yeah it sounds like someone is having a "Personal Domestic Issue" at home or something like that. I can see HR not saying anything, because it puts them in an sticky situation. (When an employee talks to management confidentually.) But like all offices, minor changes like that get around quick and people find out somthing is up. (I was informed of a "NO Baseball Bat" rule a few months ago! LOL!!!)
-
Sorry... I own an *AR (16" w/ Collapsible stock, A1 upper... about ten years old now.) and my wife owns an AK (Egytian Maddi version). *Currently investigating SBR'ing it with a 10.25" Flat-Top Upper. (Plans are to buy a couple more AR Lowers.)

In the poll it says "AR-15"... isn't that the semi-auto designation of the M-16 platform? Is this poll Class III true Assault Weapons, or meant for a roll call of Semi Auto versions of military rifles? (I own no class III... and sometimes, late at night, I... I... weep over that fact. )

As of now, I prefer having a manual safety. I am slowly warming up to the no manual safety though. The manual safety on my HK Compact is easy to disconnected as I draw, so I am content. But like "molonlabetn", I have been eyeing the HK2000 with the LEM myself. (Seems like a natural evolution.) I think I just need more exposure to glocks and such. Just grew up around manual safeties.
