Montana: Outlaw guns and we'll secede
creeky replied to sigmtnman's topic in 2A Legislation and Politics
Wow! You can almost hear the Supreme Court moaning. -
(*First off... I'm not trying to make anyone mad.) I wonder how many people would actually "take up arms" if that was to happen. I have friends all the time who love to spout out "From my cold dead hands" and "Come and take them" when ever the subject comes up. That sounds good and emotional, but I wonder how much thought really goes into that. If that knock came at your door (if you were even home) are you really prepared (not in the armament, but in the logical rational mindset) to really make some sort of grand stand and scrafice not just yourself but everyone that is inside that house? Your wife? Your kids? Because make no mistake, you pull that trigger and that house and everyone in it are pretty much history. Some yeah... they can have the ones that they have on file. But not the ones I got hid! Let's look at that argument logically for a moment. What good is a "hid" outlawed gun for self defense? Unless you lived in a very rural area (where no one would hear the shot and report you) and could "Shoot - Shovel and Shut Up", you're still pretty much screwed. The gun is gone, you are gone, and your spouse is pretty much would be in trouble as well. Then if they wanted to get real nasty, what Child Protective Services? If they can outlaw guns why can't they say that the children are in danger just by having the "guns" in the house? What else are you going to do with it? Wait for some "Revolutionary War" scenario so you can rush out, dig up that old SKS and ammo and join in the "cause"? The battle is in the courts, the "Fighting" is now. It's in the break rooms, and the kitchen tables in America. It's using logic in presenting the facts of gun ownerships and it's benefits to society. It's arming others with knowledge and the truth about Firearms. A semi-automatic firearm is completely useless until used, the same way with the voting public. They are useless until organized, involved, engaged and become pro-active with regards to Gun Rights. A flurry of well thought out emails to Representatives, well written letters to the editor, or taking some one who has never fired a firearm to the range... that is the real power, and scares the "anti-gun" crowd (and our representatives) a whole lot more than any weapon that they have tried to ban. I am not trying to insult anyone for their opinions. It just seems very easy to say "Yeah! Come and get them" without putting much thought into what that really means. The cause and affect of your actions. I'd rather see polls on "The best ways influence legislatures", or threads on "How to right a good letter to the editor". (Granted these are covered here at TGO in other threads, that is one reason I like the board so much! )But sometimes when I see threads like these, It seems these become "How I will stand against the deviled hoard" and littered with bumper sticker sayings. Please don't misunderstand me, I know we have a lot of very active people here that are always writing letters, sending emails and inviting people to the range. And for one am very thankful for it.

Obama statement on gun violence
creeky replied to 2000silverz28's topic in 2A Legislation and Politics
I wonder if the "Ozzies" who were gun owners said the same thing only a little different. "This isn't England!" -
Hahahaha! The last Sheetfed shop I worked at we had about 150 employees (when I left). Three taught Permit classes, And I personally knew about 30 that had permits. (Just on my shift.) It was "Don't ask, Don't tell" unwritten policy. I've cleaned, sorted and primed brass during our down time there. When HR put up "No Gun" signs in the plant, it was because of Insurance. Just by putting them up we got a little break on premiums. But the "Don't ask, Don't tell" was still in effect. Heck... the HR guy taught Permit classes too! Printing is probably one of the heaviest armed businesses in America.

If anything it shows that Ruger is ready to agressively enter the CCW market that they let slip by them for years. Everything they come out with will be compared to what is currently out there. It's really all they hav eto draw from right now. It might take a few years before they come out with anything really "new" or different. I would guess their best hope now is to provide products that are similar to what is out there now but with better fit and finish (Like Molon suggests.) and with their "branding". Time will tell. Not a real .380 fan myself.

Obama statement on gun violence
creeky replied to 2000silverz28's topic in 2A Legislation and Politics
It's the same old dance... when your in a Pro-Gun State... You take the "pro-gun" stance. When you campaign in an anti-gun state... you talk the "anti-gun" talk. Repubs, Dems, Independents... doesn't matter what they say. Just look at their records. How they voted. And what they have said in the past. I don't think Obama is Pro-Gun, anymore than McCain is against Illegal Immigration. Doesn't matter what they say. Their voting history speaks for them. (IMHO) -
I'll let you know... I just bought it today on Lunch from Borders. Also bought "Backcountry First Aid and Extended Care" at the same time. The little girl behind the counter got a kick out of me buying these two together. LOL!!! I read that a movie version is in the works on it.

Getting to know each other: What do you look like?
creeky replied to TGO David's topic in General Chat
It would have been nice to have had this tied into the introductions... might be easier. -
I don't know why... gut for some strange reason I had you pegged as a rifleman. Living in a rual area, rifles are like rakes and shovels. Seems like it just wouldn't be the same around the old place if there wasn't one or two around the place. But the 1894's are pretty fun guns.

No AR in your future after the AK is gone?!?
-
Plus they are going to make a movie of "World War Z".

I've always liked the looks of those but have never picked on up. Was wondering how they felt. Watched a few Youtube videos and they looked pretty cool shooting. I'm glad for you!

I guess you are right... we should accept that McCain is the best that the party will fully back and send him to the front. As far as... "working to elect the candidate closest to your philosophy." I would but Fred backed out.

Some of what I have read online... (take with a grain of salt, reposted from the web...) ------------------------- Huckabee says he'll drop out if he's mathematically eliminated - in other words, once McCain racks up the needed 1,191 delegates. But that probably can't happen until April 22, when Pennsylvania votes. For practical purposes, McCain already appears beyond Huckabee's reach. According to the latest count by The Associated Press, McCain had 729 delegates to Huckabee's 241 delegates. One factor keeping McCain from claiming a majority sooner is that Romney has yet to release his 288 delegates. "With Romney out of the race, Huckabee became a repository for the anti-McCain vote. I think for conservatives, it doesn't hurt for a while here to make sure Senator McCain and his folks understand that the fissures that conservatives have with Senator McCain didn't happen overnight, and are not going to be resolved overnight," said Mueller. "One of the reasons Huckabee is staying in is to give a voice to conservatives so that we are a very strong presence going into the convention." McCain said Tuesday in Richmond, Va, "Governor Huckabee has every right to remain in the race as long as he feels is necessary." ------------------------- It doesn't bother me that he is staying in. If anything the states he is winning is just showing how unhappy the republican party is unhappy with McCain. I don't know that it is such a bad thing for everyone to just "annoint" McCain as the nominee and let him think he automatically has the full support of conservatives. Talk radio wanted to push Romney down our throats... now they want to sing McCain's praises. Forget them... To be honest... I'm pretty discusted with all the politics right now. There is noe in the running worthy of an honest man's vote. (IMHO)

So what is the story behind those? How many receivers were made like that? Who made them? What's the back story? Really, really, curious.

Oh WOW! That's Awesome!

I just thought this looked really cool. So much i had to share the link. (Some of you may have already seen this, but it was new to me.) http://www.ar15.com/forums/topic.html?b=3&f=118&t=352535

Here is some info on it from the box of truth... http://theboxotruth.com/docs/bot41.htm

(IMHO) You just described a Glock 17 (or 19). Never shot a 9mm Glock before though. Have shot the G22, G23 & G27 (.40 cal.) They all shot well, and I was surprised how well I was able to hit with them from just picking them up.
