1. Quote your statistics to some of the victims of crime. They had the same odds as the rest of us, didn't they? Allow me to refer you to the phrase in section 39-17-1351 (t) of the TCA "reasonably believes it is necessary", with the key word being "reasonably".
2.     Here is what it says:   (t) Any law enforcement officer of this state or of any county or municipality may, within the realm of the officer's lawful jurisdiction and when the officer is acting in the lawful discharge of the officer's official duties, disarm a permit holder at any time when the officer reasonably believes it is necessary for the protection of the permit holder, officer or other individual or individuals. The officer shall return the handgun to the permit holder before discharging the permit holder from the scene when the officer has determined that the permit holder is not a threat to the officer, to the permit holder, or other individual or individuals provided that the permit holder has not violated any provision of this section and provided the permit holder has not committed any other violation that results in the arrest of the permit holder.   If the permit holder has given you no indication that he has committed a crime, or otherwise gives you no reason to believe that he is anything other than a law-abiding citizen, then the "reasonable belief" is simply not there. Nowhere does it say that you may disarm someone "just because".   If he is up to no good, what is to stop him from using his weapon after you return it to him? Doesn't make any sense.   Were I a judge, I would throw every single case out of court where the officer disarmed the citizen just because he had a weapon and for no other reason.
3.   Kind of overstating it, aren't you? No one here has claimed to be perfect. But making a tragic mistake with a firearm is nothing I have any interest in, so I am overly careful when it comes to that, to the point of being ridiculous sometimes.   Once you do something like this father did, there's no taking it back.
4.   People who aren't qualified to talk down to others shouldn't do so.
5. Your personal fears are no justification for disarming someone who has shown no aggression towards you nor given you any reason to view him as a threat. The less a weapon is handled, the less chance of accident. Besides, my weapon is my personal property. If I am not committing a crime, you have no right ro confiscate it, not even for a few minutes.
6. I just love the guys who think just because they've been careless with their firearms that everyone else has been. Classic projection.
hey...be careful...i have made a few "walker point of view" posts and have had my head bitten off by two members on here!!! ha ha ha my sense of humor has not been appreciated. i will have to stop I guess????
Just for the record, you did not have your "head bitten off". Tell the truth, please.
8.
Well, you WERE warned. Man, I'll bet you made some old ladies blush when that happened. I know I would have spouted a few "colorful metaphors."
Well, I did say to my wife "I just cut the sh** out of my finger". She thought I said "stew".... I was actually pretty calm about it because I knew exactly what I had done. We were on our way to hear a Christmas concert so I was kinda disappointed about that.
9.
grrrrwoooowweoorrrrrllllll (zombie translation...i like this show A LOT!!)
You know, you'll fit in a lot easier if you just be yourself. I'm with Spots on this one.

11.
I got that exact same scar on my right hand. Mine came from a fight with a broken coke bottle when I was 10
I had that same fight when I was a teenager, only I tried to stomp one to death. The bottle won. Still have the battle scar.
12. OK, the wife and I had stopped to get a Sunday paper, and as usual, there were no loose ones. So, I whipped out my Ambitious and proceeded to cut the zip tie. Didn't notice that my left hand was in the way and proceeded to slice through that tie all the way into my finger. Pics as requested from you sickos..... 15. Sitting in Williamson Medical ER waiting to get stitched up because I got stupid with my Spyderco Ambitious and cut the index finger of my left hand pretty badly.
16. I didn't start carrying or even have a loaded gun in the house until my son was older (high school), but I have made it a priority to always, ALWAYS practice all of the rules of gun safety. It was just never an option. As a result, I have never had a negligent discharge anywhere else but the range with the gun pointing downrange. I'm not bragging, but I am saying that, as gun owners, we can never become complacent about safety. Our friends and family are looking to us to be responsible, and we cannot afford to let our guard down when it comes to our safety or the safety of others. I have worked hard to earn the trust of my wife, who was concerned when I started keeping a loaded firearm in the house, and then her concern increased when I started carrying one. I simply won't risk destroying that trust by being irresponsible with my weapons. It's too big of a price to pay. The day I become complacent about this is the day I should sell all my firearms and never carry again.
When the restaurant carry bill was being voted on, how many times did we hear that "guns and alcohol don't mix!"? But when someone gets drunk, gets behind the wheel of a car and then kills someone, do we ever hear that "cars and alcohol don't mix!"? I know I don't. I mean, God forbid the thought of banning alcohol or automobiles, which are just as deadly as a gun in the wrong hands, but we gotta ban all the guns! That'll do it!!
18. Decockers must be engaged in order to do their job. If the father was so irresponsible that he couldn't practice proper trigger or muzzle discipline, then I seriously doubt that a decocker or even an external safety would have made any difference as they probably would NOT have been engaged. I know that's speculation, but the pattern was there. And the article says "It's not clear how the gun went off." Seriously? Again, they're just feeding the common misconception that a gun has a mind of its own and will discharge for no good reason. Makes it easier to blame the gun, I suppose.
19. The problem is, when I am able to cram the last round in the mag, then I can't insert it into the magwell. Seems like it would have to be the spring.
20. Wow. If they call the 30-round mag the "fun stick", what will they call this? Oh, and I loved the "intermission".
21. Non-chlorinated brake cleaner is what I use to clean my weapons, followed by Mobil One Synthetic for lubrication and preventing rust.
22. There's nothing to indicate that he did this on purpose, so I'm really not understanding why some think he did it on purpose. Why are you reading more into the story than is actually there? Like so many who are inexperienced with firearms, he simply didn't have either the trigger or muzzle discipline necessary to keep this from happening. It's a tragic, unintentional mistake that he will have to live with. I can't even begin to imagine the horror of that.
