I personally think that Ted Cruz is brilliant. The media and the left is going nuts because he appears to have no skeletons in the closet and he certainly is getting his message out in spite of them.

  Not always.

  Some of the points he made were not relevant, even if he was citing state law. Unless I missed it somewhere, they were not asked to leave. Even if they were, they apparently didn't make a big deal out of it. In any case, they were complying with state law. Also, even though LE has the right under the law to request ID, they have no right to continue to detain someone if reasonable suspicion does not exist. He did, however show these young ladies the respect that they were due. The other officer clearly did not and was way out of line.

Cases like this make a great argument for accuracy in the event of a DGU.

There are laws against drunk driving, yet people still do it.   More laws are not going to prevent people from texting and driving, just like more gun laws are not going to prevent criminals and stupid people from misusing firearms.   Laws punish, but they don't prevent people from being killed or seriously hurt.

What about "hands free" texting, as in using Siri on an iphone or S Voice on Android to text? Is that illegal as well?

  In TN, yes. If he's respectful and polite, no problem. If he's a dick about it, the video camera goes on.

I agree that there are some who hurt us more than they help us. These girls, however, were simply going about their business as they exercised their rights. They complied with the officer's request for ID. As was stated, the only proper response was to let them go on their way without any further questioning or harassment. Instead, he decided to show everyone how small his privates were by continuing to treat them as suspects even though he had no probable cause. These are the kind of cops that give the rest a bad name with many folks.

If you don't stand stand up for your rights, no one else will, either.

Anyone who feels like they owe minorities something are free to set up a fund to pay them back for the sins of their ancestors. Go ahead. Put your money where your mouth is. Anyone who feels the same way is free to join you in that endeavor. Go in together and buy some airtime on TV and tell the world how sorry you are.   Not me. I did nothing wrong and I refuse to apologize to anyone just because someone in my lineage might have owned their great great great grandpappy.
