Some people should not be allowed to own guns...
daddyo replied to mousegunner's topic in 2A Legislation and Politics
Anyone who qualifies under the law should be able to own a gun. The Second Amendment does not distinguish on the basis of mental capacity or intelligence. If you say, "I support the Second Amendment, BUT....", then you don't support the Second Amendment. -
Give me some ballistic data that supports what you're saying, not insults. Personal attacks on your part simply prove that the facts are on my side. I don't want to be hit with a rock, but that doesn't prove that it's as effective as a 158 gr .38 JHP. That's a bogus argument. Have a nice day, sir.
-
That's a contradiction. If you truly believe service calibers have a much better chance of stopping the fight, not killing, but stopping the fight, then why would you carry anything else? Using the baseball bat as an example, ask Harold if it would have made any difference to him if he'd had a butter knife that day instead of the bat. After all, they are both capable of doing the job, right? Which one would you rather have?
-
That's the "pop psychology" of all things gun-related and just doesn't hold up under scrutiny. Facts are facts.
-
I don't know Harold, but I do know some other folks whose viewpoint I trust. And all of them agree that non-service calibers are far less effective as fight stoppers than service calibers.
-
I didn't say that it couldn't do the job; the .380 simply has no track record as a fight stopper. So, from that viewpoint the facts are that they don't all work. Let me ask again, do you want to give the BG the opportunity to shoot back at you or attack you while he's bleeding out? If you really think about it you'll understand what I'm saying. Testosterone has nothing to do with it; service calibers have been proven to be fight stoppers with much greater frequency than non-service calibers. If you have proof to the contrary, please point me to it. But if you can't, don't worry. I haven't yet found anyone who can defend the .380 with ballistic facts, so you're not alone. Besides, if you aren't accurate with a .45, why would you think you would be with any other caliber?
-
The adrenaline from the stress of an SD situation robs you of your fine motor skills, making shot placement extremely difficult. What kind of .45 rounds were they? Sounds to me like your friend Harold got lucky and that the shooter was not very good. Ballistics and simple physics tell me that a 230 gr .45 JHP is far superior to a 90 gr .380 99% of the time. You want to trust your life to a non-service caliber, that's your business. Not me, brother. With the availability of small pocket sized 9mm semi autos, there is just no good reason to carry a .380 anymore.
-
.380 can kill, just like the .22, but the ballistics indicate that it is not a fight stopper. Do you have time for the BG to bleed out or do you want to incapacitate him so that he cannot fight back? It's simple physics, really.

Nice looking shotty. I've heard some good things about Tristar firearms.
-
A .380? For home defense? Why? Hmmmm. Let's see, a .380 or a 12 ga? Hmmmm.
-
Jeff and Boge are great guys, and I appreciate what they do, but Jeff and I part ways when it comes to the .380. The ballistics simply do not justify its use as a self-defense caliber.

Yeah, your best bet for finding any good holster is online IMO. Try this link: Defensive Carry Holster Links If you can't find it at any of those links, you probably don't need it.
-
I'm with you - I just don't get the whole .380 thing at all.
-
The law says it's OK. But even with this law, schools are still "gun-free" killing zones.
-
Any of those would be a good choice, including the Bersa. I have a UC9 and it's one of my favorite pistols. Very accurate and reliable out of the box. Can't beat it for the price.

I have the Chive as well and I carry it daily. I also have the Vapor that I carry on the weekends when I want a little extra security.

For those whose EDC is a revlover...

Most any gun shop would have them. I know Franklin Gun Shop does. You can usually get them cheaper online, though. -
Was also a broadway musical....
-
If you're gonna carry, you should always carry at least one reload, but a backup weapon is quicker than a reload.

I carry speed strips, but I keep a couple of speed loaders in the glove box. Here is a good reload technique for anyone who carries a wheelgun: Universal Revolver Reload -
No kids in my house, so every weapon is condition 1.

I just bought one of the Wilderness Tactical Ring Belts and am very pleased with it. I can wear my M&P with two mags in a double mag carrier weak side and there is no sag whatsoever. I also have two of the Don Hume trouser belts and they are good belts for the money. http://www.gunnersalley.com/product/BELT109L25/Hume-Trouser-Belt---Lined-1-14-Inches-B109L.html

Still waiting for someone to give me a link or reference to ballistic testing that proves the .327 is equal to the .357. "Do the math" doesn't quite do it...

Does it penetrate the minimum 12" required to be an adequate SD round?
