Tuesday I had him disconnect from the network. Usage for that day returned to normal. When he left for work yesterday I told him to leave it running and connected. Usage spiked again, with another 4GB used in that time period and he wasn't even home. So I think the verdict is in on which device it is.

Thanks for the replies. Some good information. Once again, I am looking only for technical advice, not parenting advice. Not that it's anyone's business, but he knows that he will pay the overage when Comcast starts billing for it since I can say with petty good certainty that what's coming through his pc is the problem. Now that that's settled, I'd love to hear from others who have something to contribute in the technical area ONLY. Thanks.

How would we determine if he has that type of virus or trojan?
-
I don't have an internet security system, so I can rule that out. The information about gaming is helpful though. Thanks. Do you have some advice on what to check for on his PC?
-
He knows that it is on him to figure out what changes have pushed us over that limit. But I'm not interested in parenting advice. I'm interested in what else I can check for.

I need some help from the IT gurus here. From Nov to Dec last year, my data usage doubled from 250GB to over 500GB, and it's been over 500 since. I have 11GB left of the next 50GB that they charge you for when you go over 300GB limit. The only thing that has changed is that my son bought a new gaming PC. My wife and I haven't done anything differently. We aren't even online that much and we both work. My son works 5 days a week but when he is off he spends much of his time online. He is a gamer but says he doesn't download that much and that he hasn't changed his online activity since he bought his new PC. I called and spoke to a Comcast Tech who told me to check and make sure that my network is secure (it is), and that no one is running any file sharing software. I'm not, my wife is not, and my son says he is not. He has been connecting an ethernet cable for faster speed, and I've noticed that whenever he does that, the data usage is higher. The only thing I can do to keep from going over the 300GB limit is to pull the plug when it gets uncomfortably close to the limit. After ruling out a possible unsecured network and file sharing, what else can I check for? I've got to get this figured out or I'm very likely to cancel my Comcast account.

"Next time you go to the range, do all your usual shooting and drills with the little gun. Shoot at point-blank range and all the way out to 50 yards or more. Shoot from the ground, shoot weak-handed, shoot one-handed, and see how difficult it really is. If you still want to fall in with the ranks of the gun shop warriors and keyboard commandos who always rattle off the old “all you need is a 2-inch J-frame ‘cause all fights happen at close range†mantra, go right ahead. However, if you are willing to look at things objectively and really think it through, you’ll see it’s better to have the bigger gun with you." https://www.usconcealedcarry.com/ccm-columns/case-full-size-9mm-handgun/

The M&P45c is one of the finest SD handguns made. I alternate mine with my M&P9c and have no desire to carry anything else.

Carmax is the only place I do business anymore.

There's a scene towards the end of Quantum of Solace where 007 takes the bad guy out into the middle of the desert, gives him a quart of oil and leaves him there. They find him later, dead, with the oil container empty. Might be a fitting punishment to rid the world of monsters like this.

It amazes me when people somehow think that a house of worship is any safer from evil than any other public place. I'm fortunate that the pastor, assistant pastor, and a couple others on staff are very friendly towards carrying in our church; in fact, they discretely encourage anyone who has an HCP to carry whenever they're on the premises, so I do.

Desantis Apache ankle rig. I carry my Smith 442 in one as a backup or when there is no other option. Very comfortable and secure.
-
I love my 442 for carry, but it's not a lot of fun to shoot.

I'll tell you what I'm tired of - these letters I get in the mail that say "Oh, we noticed that we haven't been charging you for this or that", and then they raise my fee by $10/month, in addition to the annual fee hike.

Yet another reason I don't own or carry anything in .380.

Oh, make no mistake about it - we have our share of liberal gun control freaks. The Mayor is proof of that.

This is what zero wants for all of us. -
Absolutely they are. I would only buy from BPS if it was my only option and I was desperate. Thank God it's not and I'm not.

To a larger degree, this is why we all carry. There are nuts in the world who don't care about themselves and they certainly don't care about anyone else. They think they can do what they want to whenever they want to, take what they want to, and have NO regard for you or others. They will beat you, kick you, rob you, even kill you with impunity, and the only defense you have is what you provide for yourself.

If I said what I'm thinking right now I would probably get a visit from der sturmfeuhrers.

I got to see them when they looked like this:

So you want to see a picture of some of the Walmart problem?

You should send that photo to corporate so they can see that used chairs are being sold as new. That should get someone's ass chewed. -
