  1. That's a great way to reinforce to those who don't know any better that we gun owners really are a bunch of rednecks. We should be better than that. I know if someone (especially a twenty-something) I'd never met gave me unsolicited advice AND called me a fool on top of it, I would tell him to go perform an impossible act on himself.
  2. At some point, if you stay in scouting long enough, you will camp in a rainstorm. As a former assistant scoutmaster and father of an eagle scout who has camped in great weather, torrential rain, and 16-degree weather, believe me, you want a tent that has taped/sealed seams, and a full rainfly. The first tent we bought in scouting was an el cheapo and the first time we camped in a rainstorm I regretted it the entire weekend. We have also done the ten-day, 70-mile trek at Philmont Scout Ranch in New Mexico (which I highly recommend), so we know a thing or two about the importance of quality camping gear. My best recommendation is to spend the extra money; you will not regret it and it will give you a much better experience. Many new scouts quit because they had a bad camping experience due to inadequate gear. No offense to anyone, but cheap Walmart gear is suitable for the best weather conditions and not much else. And yes, I am a gear snob. Check this website out: Scout Direct Home Page Registered scouts and/or registered adult leaders can get great quality gear for 45% off retail pricing. I have one of their four-man tents and it is awesome. They also sell samples but you have to be quick because they are snatched up quickly. Used gear is also a good option. Check with other scouting families; they may have extra gear you can borrow or buy at a good price. PM me if you want additional recommendations.
  3. For every make and model, someone somewhere has had reliability issues. One bad one does not mean they are all bad.
  4. SD9 & SD40 - Smith & Wesson
  5. I was talking to one of the guys at On Target in Murfreesboro about 6 weeks ago and he said the new SD line is a big improvement over the Sigma, especially the trigger.
  6. Wow, you mean I get to pay even more for my insurance? Thanks, President Obama!!!
  7. Already did. Don't you just love their claim that many restaurant owners are "unaware" of the law? Really? It's not like it wasn't plastered all over every newspaper and reported on every news station when they were trying to get it passed into law. I don't believe there are many restaurateurs who are that stupid.
  8. True. However, technological advances in 9mm ammunition have brought it up to FBI ballistic standards. With the RIGHT 9mm ammo, it is a capable fight-stopper.
  9. S&W resolved the issues of the early Sigmas with the VE version.
  10. If you don't know what the gun is worth that you are buying, selling, or trading for, you're gonna get screwed, period. I have a SW9VE Allied Forces. I've never had a failure with it in 600 rounds, and it's very accurate. Feels great in the hand, and once you get used to the trigger, it makes a decent carry weapon or a truck gun. I would have no problem trusting my life to mine.
  11. Someone needs to tell the Williamson County Commission.
  12. If you're including .22 WMR, then: Winchester 67A bolt action Marlin 25MN Phoenix Arms HP22
  13. "You get what you pay for" applies to 1911's too.
  14. So if this guy wins, he gets his own show in Vegas?
  15. I have tried so many carry methods looking for the one setup that suits me. This is the one I have landed on: S&W M&P 45c IWB strongside at 4:00 with 2 extra mags weakside in a Don Hume double mag carrier. S&W 442 in left front pocket in a pocket holster with one or two speedstrips in right front pocket. That's 40 rounds. Sounds like a lot, but it's all in what you become accustomed to. I used to carry one weapon with no reload till I started talking to others and reading other viewpoints. Extra ammo and a BUG just made sense to me, but I didn't want to feel like I was lugging a complete armory around. There are numerous ways to carry reloads and BUGs that add very little weight to any current carry setup. But it's all personal preference. I look at it this way. If I'm with my wife, or my son, and we suddenly found ourselves in a bad situation, the BUG would be for one of them as she doesn't want to carry and he can't legally just yet. Or it could be for someone else. Better to have one more armed good guy if the situation demanded it. I used to take extra food backpacking when I was a scout leader in case someone didn't bring enough or any at all. Same principle. Since I carry well-concealed, the attacker would have to somehow know that they were there in order to wrestle them away from me. And thank you for your service.
  16. Ultimate Tire and Car Care in Nashville is who I use. Bobby Armstrong, one of the owners, is a Second Amendment supporter.
  17. This is what I think of when I think of cowboy music:
  18. I say that because there are too many accounts where the criminal just wasn't deterred by the victim drawing his weapon.
  19. I had the same reservations about carrying my 1911 condition one at first, so I had to carry it around the house unloaded, cocked and locked, until I was satisfied that the hammer wasn't going to fall on its own.
  20. Leroy, No offense intended. But when you say a bad carry method works or is acceptable and that you practice that technique, then you are by default giving advice to others who may not know better. Can't just let it slide man, sorry. It could get someone killed. Nothing personal.
  21. I do believe I'll take Jeff Cooper's word over Lee Roy's and keep carrying my 1911 in condition one.
