I have a Desantis paddle for my G19, an Don Hume 720 for my 1911 and a Crossbread Quik Clip IWB for my Kahr. All open open top. No open carry and no thumb straps for me.

Congratulations. Now the fun starts with taking the ETI (FE exam) and working toward being eligable to take the PE. If I recall the state board now grants a year of experience toward the PE for completing grad school.

I go to KW a couple of times a year. Wife & I lived there for a while and that's where we got married. I concur with above. It's a southern tourist town and the beaches are not very good. It's fun to visit but staying up the Keys may get you more for less. We normallly rent a house as opposed to a hotel. There is no maid service but we prefer it.

I tried out the new range last evening. NICE. You can run the targets out to what ever distance you chose or chose pre-programmed sequences whereby the targets will move back and forth at random and also expose themselves or turn sideways also at random. The ranges are well lighted. The ventilation system works so well that it's cold in there because the air is turned over faster than the heaters can warm the place. The new retail store is also a nice facility. There were adaquate staff members to handle the customers and they were all friendly and helpful. Between range time and a box of 45acp my bill was less than $40. I have to give a good rating on this trip report.

I have a goverment model but don't have enough rounds through it yet to be totally comfortable with it. So far I'm happy with it. I did order and just received a DonHume OWB holster and am surprised at how tight a full size 1911 can be tucked away and well it can be carried and conceled with just a shirt tail.

I have one pair of 5.11 cargo pants and really like them. Strange thing is their cargo pants don't have cargo pockets. What they do have is a long (i.e. deep) pocket with a zipper behind the regular front pocket. It's perfect for a pocket holster. I also have 3 pair of the Wal-Mart Wrangler cargo pants that are inexpensive and work well. I personally don't like to carry in the carry pocket because I don't like the feel of the firearm slapping leg near my knee.

Welcome. I concur with David's recommendation to try as many handguns as possible whether at a shoot or by renting at a firing range/gun store. I also am left handed and have a Glock. The only consideration, IMO, is that the mag release on the Glock (as is with almost all handguns) is on the left side of the handgrip so it can be operated with the thumb on the right hand. The only time this is a hinderance is if your trying to shoot IDPA.

I have an American Classic II also and so far am happy with it. First couple of range trips had some FTF/FTE issues but it seems now that it has a few rounds through it to run smooth.

I bought my G19 in June of 09 which I guess makes it a Gen 3. As I recall it had two jams of some sort on one each of the first two mags I put though it when it was new but has never had a problem of any sort since.

This brings back some memories for me. My wife (GF then) was assigined, as a civilian contractor, to a project @ NAS KW the summer I graduated from UT. I had no job so I stayed down there for several months. The bldg. she worked out of was on the water where the boats for the races were staged. The bldg. which was warehouse then has been remodled and is now a student center for oceanography. We got married on the beach which was gated off after 9/11 and still go down there a couple of time a year.

Disclaimer: I'm not sure I know what I'm talking about here but I'll throw this idea out for discussion. Are the rules by which a LEO can search a vehicle during a traffic stop different from those that are required to search a home? Does searching a home not require a search warrant from a judge stating where they can look and for what whereas with a LEO on the side of the road all he needs is probable cause to search a vehicle? If that's the case then I would think the law enforcement community would object to making the inside of your car equivalent to you home because it would make their job more difficult relative to searchs during traffic stops.

Check TDOT website for road construction project locations and delays. The majority if not of your travel route will be either a state hwy or interstate.

I went to the Brewery in Turkey Creek a couple of weeks ago. I think it's owned by the Chase group that owns Copper Celler and Calhouns and I thought the company policy was to post. I couldn't find the posting. Assuming the Turkey Creek brewery and Gatlinburg brewery are co-owned then Gatlinburg may not be posted. I could well be incorrect about ownership also.

Red hair doesn't sound familiar so I actually don't know who that might have been. I don't do traffic as a rule but I do know that the old concept of signals being timed in a manner such that progression along a given route at a certin speed will allow unintrupted travel is no longer possible. The number of side streets & driveways and the demand placed on the signal timers by the side streets and the volume and varying speeds of traffic make progression impossible. Signal timing at a stand alone intrersection can be done by hand however signals in series are much more complex. The City has twice (since I've been here) hired a consultant (most recently 3 or 4 years ago) to do a computer simulation of traffic flow and signal timing. They are presently timed as well as is reasonabley possible to accomadate the general public. Unfortuntaly locations where there are high volumes of traffic for short periods of time such as schools, Y-12, ORNL, DOE, hospital etc. are the largest source of complaint.

Oak Ridge is a little unique in that the City ownes and operates the electric department as opposed to it being a seprate utility which is the case in most locations. Because of this, in Oak Ridge at least, the traffic lights and equipment fall under the jurisdiction of the electric department not Public Works which is the department where the City Engineer is located. The cameras are owned and operated by the RLC vendor not the city.
