  1. I think you mentioned weekend and some discussion relative to Coal Creek. I believe they close the range to the public on Saturday afternoons/evenings for the HCP permit class.
  2. This happend to my boss, the Public Works Director (PWD), here in Oak Ridge a few years ago. The citation was from some city in a midwestern state that he had never been in. It was an Anderson Co. TN tag but not his tag and the photo did not match his vehicle. He went to the local county clerks office but because of privacy laws he could not learn the identy of the vehicle owner. He contacted the camera company (Red Flex) and advised them of their mistake. What's funny about the story, at least to me, is this was prior to when Oak Ridge entered the contract for it's traffic cameras but during the period when staff was selecting a vendor and because of his position as PWD he was on the camera company evaluation committee. Very embarrasing for the camera company.
  3. I have a CW-9. The 1st firing range session was a disaster with failures of every type. I was worried I had bought a PO . After the recommend break in I havn't had a failure and have enough confidence to use it as my EDC weapon.
  4. There is a picture of John Wayne on the wall. Yes it is a Texas/Western theme. I ate there last weekend and have been there in the past. The food is pretty good but expensive. Our bill was over $120 with no alcohol. It's also easy to get to and there is actually parking on site. I noticed the sign just as I was walking in. I was carrying, conceled to the point the people I was with (including my wife) didn't know and I was riding in someone else's vehicle. This put me in a very awkward position since I would have had to ask the owner of vehicle for the keys in order to disarm. I just decided to put my hand in my pocket and then lay a napkin across my waist.
  5. My favorite is my G19 but my daily carry is a Kahr CW-9
  6. I don't like stickers of anykind on my vehicles. I don't even like the logo that the dealer puts on the back of the car showing where you purchased it. I do have a UT Alumni license plate frame but I don't have a front plate of any kind. I'm the same way about clothing items. I don't like to pay to purchase an item that is an advertisment for a company. Call me cranky. I'm really going to be bad when I get old(er). My range bag does have a Midway logo on it but I figure the same bag without the logo would have been $100 and this one was only $39 so I got a discount for the advertisment.
  7. Good Luck on the eye surgery. My wife had both eyes done last summer and has been able to discard her glasses. She's very happy.
  8. What Mike357 & JPS said
  9. I am also intrested in a shotgun class. Austin's in Oak Ridge offers one. I have 0 knowledge/experience with them (shotguns not Austins). I'm intrested in shotgun 101 but I'm not clear on whether Austin's class is for experienced owner's or persons like me that need to know how to choose one for purchase, safely own and operate it and maintain it.
  10. I've taken a total of 4 handgun classes and will take additional as classes that I think will be benefical that are offered at a location I can attend become available.
  11. I call Bragging. The rest of us received a Restraing Order from the USPS for stocking the mail carrier
  12. I'm jealous I also wish Comcast would offer the Outdoor Channel
  13. Thanks for the update. I'm an ORSA member but actually live closer to Frontier. I'll be trying out the new range in the near future.
  14. I don't know about the venue and am not trying to hi-jack the thread but I've seen Chihuly's work twice and it's incredible.
  15. I was where you are a few years ago. I had been a utility sales person and while I didn't paticularly like it and I knew it wasn't what I wanted for a career it paid well. It paid so well that when the company got in trouble I was able to use my saving to finish school. Fast forward to graduation. I couldn't find technical/engineering work but got offered several sales jobs by manufactures that would pay well. Long story short I held out, took a low paying design job and waited till I had someting on my resume. Eventuallly it was the right decsion since I now have a job that I actually don't mind getting up and going to and that I can consider a career. My only regret is that I was mid life before I got there. Good Luck. It's scary but it does work out.
  16. Welcome from another Oak Ridger. If you need a good place to shoot at a reasonble price please consider ORSA.
  17. I've wanted to check a handgun previously but didn't becasue I don't have a lockable case that I think, after reading the airline and TSA description, would be acceptable. My question is what do those of you that check a firearm in you luggage use for a case that is small enough but also strong enough, lockable and acceptable to TSA?
  18. I'm like Daddy O. I'm to old :-\ to go to "High Risk" areas unless my wife has had a bad day then going home is Very High Risk
  19. I have the aforementiond CW-9 that I carry in a Crossbread Quik-Clip IWB and am happy with both. Just for shooting/range work I prefer my Glock 19 but the Kahr is easier to carry.
  20. I seem to recall a different post from a TGO member that knows the president or a board member (I don't recall the specifies) who stated that the Y-12 FCU would remain un-posted.
  21. Coal Creek Armory normally offers the class split up on Tue and Thur evenings.
  22. I have to do one of the annual jobs I hate the most. Winterizing the pool and installing the cover.
  23. I didn't read all of the posts but I did see parts of a couple of the shows. I think Poppycock actually has some talent. I described him as being a freak and my wife objected so I rephased it "Unconventional". I didn't care for him doing the Star Spangled Banner. I really don't think he was viable as a Vegas act. For pure talent I thought the 10 year old girl, Jackie, was by far the best but I knew she wouldn't win because she wouldn't draw in Vegas. I expected Fighting Gravity to win but I was wrong. I don't know what the young lady wants for her future but I hope she finds a way to market herself and her talent.
  24. I purchased one back in June and found the same discrepancy relative to mag capacity. It's the only 1911 I've ever owned and don't really know what a higher end gun might have that this one doesn't. The manual, which for mine looks more like something that was produced in an office copy machine, doesn't discuss a break in period. I have less that a hundred rounds through mine and it has had some feed/return to battery issues. I'm waiting till I have more rounds through it to determine if it will be reliable.
  25. In the process of cleaning out my parents house I found a zip up type rifle bag/case hidden in their basement. I recognized it as being one I had seen in Dad's closet when I was a kid. I hadn't seen it for years and believed it had been stolen when the house was burglarized about 10 years ago. I always though it was just the run of the mill 22cal varmit rifle and never knew of it being fired. When I opened the bag the butt plate said "Mauser" and the stock had Mauser stamped into the wood. Through searching various internet sites I believe it to be a 410B but can't determine the prefix (Mm or MS). I have also found out that these rifles were used to train the Hitler youth. Dad was a WWII vet. I really don't think he actually brought it back from Germany (I don't know this for a fact) but I have no idea have he came to be in possession of this rifle. I have found reference to book entitled "Masure Smallbore Rifles" by John Speed. It appears this book is the only reference that is available that can identify the weapon via the serial number. I really want to determine the history/orgin of the rifle but I really don't want to order the book. My question is: Do any of you TGO folks have it and if so can I PM you the serial number for the rifle.
