A woman brought a very limp duck into a Veterinarian's office. As she laid her pet on the table, the vet pulled out his stethoscope and listened to the bird's chest. After a moment or two, the vet shook his head and ... sadly said, "I'm sorry, your duck, Cuddles, has passed away." The distressed woman wailed, "Are you sure?" "Yes, I am sure. Your duck is dead," replied the vet.. "How can you be so sure?" she protested. "I mean you haven't done any testing on him or anything. He might just be in a coma or something." The vet rolled his eyes, turned around and left the room. He returned a few minutes later with a black Labrador Retriever. As the duck's owner looked on in amazement, the dog stood on his hind legs, put his front paws on the examination table and sniffed the duck from top to bottom. He then looked up at the vet with sad eyes and shook his head. The vet patted the dog on the head and took it out of the room. A few minutes later he returned with a cat. The cat jumped on the table and also delicately sniffed the bird from head to foot. The cat sat back on its haunches, shook its head, meowed softly and strolled out of the room. The vet looked at the woman and said, "I'm sorry, but as I said, this is most definitely, 100% certifiably, a dead duck." The vet turned to his computer terminal, hit a few keys and produced a bill, which he handed to the woman.. The duck's owner, still in shock, took the bill. "$150?" she cried, "$150 just to tell me my duck is dead?!" The vet shrugged, "I'm sorry. If you had just taken my word for it, the bill would have been $20, but with the Lab Report and the Cat Scan, it's now $150."

I think you are exactly right southernasylum, and as much as I dislike it, facts are facts. -
HB118/SB142: Current "parking lot" legislation
waynesan replied to GKar's topic in 2A Legislation and Politics
If this bill doesn't protect the gun owner from being fired from his/her job then this isn't really a "safe commute" bill at all. What in this bill would encourage business owners to allow gun storage in the vehicles of employees? It doesn't seem like it does. I don't see this as a step in the right direction at all. If all we get is that the state won't prosecute us for some trespassing type infringement then I don't see how weve progressed one step. Nothing changes as far as our job security if we are caught or known to have a gun in our car. Does anyone know how the other states who have dealt with this issue have written their laws? Are their laws similar to what this Senate version proposes or do they also include employee protection from job termination? -
HB118/SB142: Current "parking lot" legislation

You can watch today's session at this link http://tnga.granicus.com/MediaPlayer.php?view_id=262&clip_id=6915 . When the link comes up click on SB0142 at the bottom of the menu. The discussion begins at 58:10. I was somewhat confused by the comments by the head of the Chamber of Commerce. After stating why the Chamber of Commerce is against any new legislation that allows permit holders to have guns in their cars on company property, he says (at 1:14:13) "We believe that the current system of DON'T ASK, DON'T TELL approach has worked well for many years since 1997 when the handgun permit legislation passed and that the urgency of passing some legislation to expand the right of gun owners to bring their weapons onto the property of others is essentially a solution without a problem." Now this says to me, "we know there are people who bring guns into our parking lots. And those people keep their mouths shut about it and we don't ask. Let's leave it like that." Is the Chamber saying (with a wink and a nod) "we know you got 'um, just don't talk about it and we won't either, and leave the law as it is." Any thoughts? -
I bet his eyes aren't open!

Great response by the Mayor. Silly action by the board member who walked out. Most likely upon leaving the meeting, he walked out on the street where there are probably more people walking around with concealed weapons (both good guys and bad) than the one guy at the meeting. Surprisingly, I looked up Washington State at handgunlaw.us and found it to be a pretty gun friendly State. Other than only honoring about 10 other State's permits, Tennessee is one of them. Being a left coast State that caught me off guard. May need to consider it a vacation destination sometime in the future.

You're welcome. And if I had had a mouthfull of Guiness when I read this, it would be all over my computer screen right now.

I did a search but did not find this linked here. This is a link to 72 "Armed Citizen" Videos. I have just watched a few and what I've seen so far is excellent. And it is especially nice to have them all located in this one location. I hope everyone enjoys this and learns some things from these people's experiences. http://www.youtube.com/user/TheArmedCitizen/videos

I love the guy at the end who says "when the right wing takes over, WE will need the guns." Priceless! -
Here is a debate between a pro gun advocate and an anti gun news reporter that is very good and worth watching. Be sure and watch the last 5 minutes. http://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_embedded&v=ECxDvwObwZk

The Immigration Officer said, "Mujibar, you have passed all the tests so far, there is only one test left. Unless you pass it, you cannot enter the United States of America. Make a sentence using the words, Yellow, Pink and Green." Mujibar said, "The telephone goes green, green, green, and I pink it up, and say, 'Yellow, this is Mujibar.'" Mujibar now works for Verizon. I know because I talked to him yesterday.

Stupid to die or go to prison over pieces of metal and plastic and wood

Great post. Thanks for the link. -
That video was recorded on Dec.15. At that time there was a lot of confusion about just how this all took place. I think since then the investigation shows he used the AR for all the killings except maybe for his suicide shot.

I got one about a year ago to carry when I go hiking. I love the gun, it's very accurate, and it conceals very well, just not so much for pocket carry which I also wanted. I thought it would work for pocket carry better than it turned out to be. It's just a little too fat to conceal well in a regular pocket (big pockets are OK.) But I am a XD fan and this was my fourth one. But I still find myself carrying my LCP most of the time. I love it for concealability.

With the Holidays upon us, I would like to share a personal experience with you about drinking and driving. As you may know, some of us have been known to have brushes with the authorities from time to time on the way home after a "social session" out with friends. Well this past weekend I was out for an evening with friends and had several cocktails followed by some rather nice red wine. Feeling jolly I still had the sense to know that I may be slightly over the limit. That's when I did something that I've never done before - I took a cab home. ... Sure enough on the way home there was a police road block, but since it was a cab they waved it past. I arrived home safely without incident. This was a real surprise as I had never driven a cab before, I don't know where I got it and now that it's in my garage I don't know what to do with it.

Hopefully this is only the beginning. Anything short of jail time for those involved in this fiasco is "Justice Denied" as far as I'm concerned. http://www.cbsnews.c...tion/?tag=socsh "The family of Border Patrol agent Brian Terry said in a statement today, "The news that an ATF disciplinary panel has recommended the firing of four senior managers found to be responsible for implementing the failed strategy of walking guns in the botched gun trafficking investigation known as Operation Fast & Furious is welcomed news. These officials lost sight of their primary mission which is to protect the American public and failed in their professional capacities as federal law enforcement officers."

Here's more: http://www.knoxnews.com/news/2012/dec/05/haslam-excluding-campuses-key-to-gun-law-deal/ "Ramsey told reporters in Nashville recently that enacting the law on storing guns in vehicles would only enshrine what is common practice now, meaning the concerns raised by large employers like FedEx and Volkswagen may be misplaced. "I will guarantee you there are gun-carry permit holders that have a firearm in their car in their parking lot as we're sitting here speaking," he said. "All we're doing is making those people legal."

A union boss walks into a bar next door to the factory and is about to order a drink to celebrate Obama's victory when he sees a guy close by wearing a Romney for President button and two beers in front of him. He doesn't have to be an Einstein to know that this guy is a Republican. So, he shouts over to the bartender so loudly that everyone can hear, "Drinks for everyone in here, bartender, but not for the Republican." Soon after the drinks have been handed out, the Republican gives him a big smile, waves at him, then says, "Thank you!" in an equally loud voice. This infuriates the union boss. So the union boss once again loudly orders drinks for everyone except the Republican. As before, this does not seem to bother the Republican. He continues to smile, and again yells, "Thank you!" So just to make his point one more time, the union boss once again loudly orders drinks for everyone except the Republican. But, as before, this does not seem to bother the Republican. He continues to smile, and again yells, "Thank you!" Frustrated, the union boss asks the bartender, "What the devil is the matter with that Republican? I've ordered three rounds of drinks for everyone in the bar but him, and all the idiot does is smile and thank me. Is he nuts?" "Nope," replies the bartender. "He owns the place."
