I rented a home twice several years ago and both times I had to take the renters to court to get my rent. They were crooks and deadbeats and had no intent to pay what they owed. I decided then I was not intended to be a landlord. Sold the house and never looked back.

Louis L'Amour embodied the meaning of an author who could "paint a picture with words." There may be some who could do it as well, but no one ever did it better.

I have read a slew of Louis L'Amour books over the years and have a stack still to be read. I came across this 15 minute interview of LL on 60 minutes from years ago. A hooded robber burst into a Minnesota bank and forced the tellers to load a sack full of cash. On his way out the door, a brave Minnesota customer grabbed the hood and pulled it off, revealing the robbers face. The robber shot the customer without a moments hesitation. He then looked around the bank and noticed one of the tellers looking straight at him. The robber instantly shot him also.... Everyone in the bank, by now very scared, looked intently down at the floor in silence. The robber yelled, "Well, did anyone else see my face?" There are a few moments of utter silence in which everyone was plainly too afraid to speak. Then, one old Norwegian named Ole from Minnesota tentatively raised his hand and said, "My wife got a pretty good look at you."

Whenever I'm in the woods in bear country I ALWAYS have bear spray with me. And I wouldn't hesitate to use it on any hostile critter meaning me harm. The videos on youtube showing bears actually being sprayed  show they definitely do get outa dodge when they get a whiff of that stuff. I always carry a gun as well but many of the experts say that the spray is more effective in getting the bear to leave verses accurately shooting a bear in a vital spot (And getting them to leave is the idea). I recently took my can of spray out to the driveway and shot a short burst just to make sure it was still working. After about 30 seconds and the cloud had dissipated I walked into the area where I sprayed it and whatever lingering molecules of the spray were left nearly choked me to death. I took off running into the house coughing, spitting, and gaging and wondering if I would live to see another day. That stuff is powerful! I realize now, if I ever have to actually use that stuff on a real bear, if he's not downwind from me I will need to do everything I can to get upwind of him or I better think twice about pushing that button.

Well Sen. Ron Ramsey has once again gone on record explaining the "intent" of the new law going into effect today. Too bad he/they didn't incorporate their "intent" into the wording of the law. http://www.timesfreepress.com/news/2013/jul/01/new-laws-in-effect-in-tennessee/  

A few years ago a couple of guys (father and son) joined my shooting range after moving from NJ to TN. They told me several horror stories of persecution against gun owners. The Dad told me that if you want to take a gun to a shooting range (hard to believe they even have any) you must lock up your gun in the trunk and make NO incidental stops between your house and the range. You don't stop to get gas, snacks, use the potty or anything. And the cops are actually given a bonus for catching violaters of the NJ absurd gun laws. The two guys that moved here felt like they had been let out of jail. They just couldn't get over the freedom that we and so many other states have when it comes to gun posession. I just know I will avoid New Jersey if I ever make any trip to the northeast.

That is so strange. I had a completely different experience flying out of Phoenix  three years ago. I declared my gun at the ticket counter, the lady kind of ho-hum looked at it in my suitcase and gave me the "firearm" flag to go inside the suitcase and sent me on my way. I asked her if a lot of people fly with guns and she said "Lord Yeah" we get 'em all the time, especially during hunting season. She was A-OK with it all the way.
