If you are calling a committee member who is voting on something that affects the whole state, at least for that moment they are my rep regardless of where I live. Whether they just "blow it off" I couldn't say. But I will have to say when I've called other reps out of my district their staffs have taken my information just as though I lived in their district. I even had a representative call me personally last week on one of the bills to tell me what was going on and he knew I was not one of his constituants.

If the "authorities" don't already know the answer to that......

Glenn Beck posts quotes from Founding Fathers...
waynesan replied to a topic in 2A Legislation and Politics
It seems so simple, but the fight to preserve our rights is a never ending battle that we better not ever get tired of waging. -
I've posted this before but it can't be repeated enough. Email is fine and should be done but calls are probably more important. If you want to call a representative, find their name and click on it Criminal Practice & Procedure. That will bring up a page about them. Find their phone numer. You can call that number, or if you are long distance you can call 1-800-449-8366. When the automated screener comes on dial the last five numbers of the representative's number. Example - Sontany's number is listed as 1-615-741-6861. Dial the 800 number and then dial 16861 (the last five numbers of her number) to get her office. For those who haven't read it yet, I suggest you read Len's sticky at the top of this forum. It's loaded with information we all could use for stuff like this. http://www.tngunowners.com/forums/showthread.php?t=352

I was on the phone yesterday with the staff person for my representative and asked her to check the status of HB0702, 3667, and 3014. She said none of those bills had been put on notice for a vote yet. Which means it is not on the calandar. They are in committee just waiting to be pushed along. I asked her when was the best time to call the committee members to urge them to pass the bills. She said the best time to call was during the week when the bill is scheduled to be voted on. She said the members are usually so busy with bills each week that if you call about a bill that isn't being considered at that time your input can get lost in the shuffle. She told me to call back weekly and she would inform me on the status of the bills in question and that is what I plan to do. A staff person for another rep. told me that her understanding was all the handgun bills were to be dealt with near the end of March.

When bike riding and a dog attacks what can I do?
waynesan replied to a topic in Handgun Carry and Self Defense
Years ago when I used to run or ride a bike, I would carry a squirt gun filled with vinegar. I only had to use it once but it definately stopped the dog but you have to get it in its eyes, (won't cause permanant damage). I also used to get a spray in a small container they sold at the bike shop made especially for dogs. I had to use it several times and it always worked. But now I carry pepper spray because the wonderful State of Tenn. will not let me carry a gun in a city park and I do most of my riding in one. -

Once again, the wisdom of the saying, "When seconds count, the police are only minutes away", is driven home. A lesson that will never be learned by so many.

Hello jaypee, and welcome. I also belong to Cherokee. You'll usually find me on the skeet range or on the upper pistol/rifle range. I got into IDPA a couple of years ago and shoot at Kettlefoot and Tac2 every chance I get. Hope to meet ya sometime.

If Jimmy Naifeh would do the right thing and let the Park Carry Law come to a vote, (because it would very likely pass) then we would be good to go in the Smokey Mountains if the Feds do change the rules.

If you've been following the battle to get the right to carry in National Parks it looks like all the work may be about to pay off. http://www.nraila.org/News/Read/NewsReleases.aspx?ID=10651

Calling 911 on Verizon Phone May Be Dangerous
waynesan replied to analog_kidd's topic in General Chat
If you call 911 using a Verizon phone it may ring your phone automatically. If you happen to be hiding from a bad guy, this could be disasterous. http://www.komotv.com/news/15752097.html?video=YHI&t=a http://www.komotv.com/news/15752097.html -
I read on another board where a gunstore somewhere in Ohio was taking preorders for $270 out the door.

Here is a list and breakdown from the NRA of proposed gun laws now being considered in the Legislature. Several on here I hadn't heard of before. It also lists the members of each committee with their contact info. http://www.nraila.org/Legislation/Read.aspx?ID=3530

When you read things like this, you wonder how anything ever gets done in Congress. Sadly, too much of the bad stuff manages to make it into law.

Obama statement on gun violence
waynesan replied to 2000silverz28's topic in 2A Legislation and Politics
More from the same article: So he "does not intend to take away people's guns" yet he "supports the District of Columbia's ban on handguns." I guess he means he won't take them away but if a local jurisdiction wants to, it's OK with him. And when President Obama or President Clinton has appointed enough Federal Judges including some on the Supreme Court, the courts will not interfere with local or state wide bans. -
An amendment to S.2483 in the U.S. Senate has been attached by Sen. Tom Coburn of Oklahoma. This amendment would authorize by law the right to carry firearms on Federal Lands (National Parks) rather than by just changing the rules set down by the Dept. of Interior which the 47 Senators requested a month or so ago. If you are interested in reading the amendment, here it is: http://coburn.senate.gov/public/_files/FedPropertybill3967.pdf I called Sen. Alexander and Sen. Corker and requested they support this amendment when the bill is brought up for a vote and urge everyone who feels the same to do the same. If this can be done at all it should be done now before the next election. This may be our last chance to see this happen. Sen. Kettlefoot in Bristol has IDPA matches on the 4th Saturday every month. Tac 2 in Greeneville is the 2nd Saturday every month. They are both really good ranges with well run matches. The first time is free for either range.

My ; While John McCain is probably my least favorite candidate on the Republican side, if it comes down to a race between him and Hilary/Obama, he will get my vote. I hope it doesn't come down to that - there is still a hope that something miraculous will occur between now and what seems as his inevitable nomination for the Republican Party. With what seems a very likely possibility, if the next President is Hilary or Obama, they will be joined with a Democratic majority in the House and Senate and I shudder to think of what mischief that will bring. The most troubling aspect of this scenario is the very real possibility that several Supreme Court appointments are likely to be made along with all the federal court appointments that will surely be made and the rights of gun owners will be turned upside down. Can you imagine a Federal Judiciary stacked with clones of Ruth Bader Ginsburg? That is what we have to look forward to if they get their way. Let me reiterate, I do not like John McCain. I applaud his service to his country as a fighter pilot and prisoner of war but that does not qualify one to be the President. He has made many bad decisions as far as I'm concerned. But I do think that if he were elected, the conservatives would be more likely to have some influence on him, moreso than on the alternative. I can't help but think of the Presidential Election of 1992. Many conservatives were angry with Bush the Elder for his moderate political governance - especially following eight years under Mr. Right, Ronald Reagan. Many conservatives abandoned Bush and voted for Ross Perot. Perot siphoned over 19 million votes away from Bush, and Clinton won the popular vote by just about 6 million votes. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/United_States_presidential_election%2C_1992 So as it stands now, I will hold my nose and pray for forgiveness for voting for the man. But I will not vote third party nor will I stay home and by so doing help Hilary/Obama to do what they plan to do with America.
