  1. Don't forget Obama's friend and advisor Bill Ayers who set off bombs in the sixties for the "Weather Underground." And Ted Kaczynski the Unabomber.
  2. Thanks to all for your responses to this thread. I think I'll set my little girl down and let her read what you've said so she can get a good idea of how most gun owners think. NuTcAsE That cracked me up! I'm sure she'll get a kick out of it as well. I guess the fact that the Xs jumped on my daughter for something for which she had no control didn't bother me as much as, in my opinion, they did not represent gun owners in a very good light. After all, when you're dealing with the public you have to bite your lip and smile and pretend that the customer is really always right. Unfortunately in this case I think the customers were way off base and it looks like most of you agree. Thanks again for your replies.
  3. My 26 year old daughter had an unpleasant experience with a rude pro gun guy and his wife yesterday in the store where she works and I thought I would relate to this board what went down and get your opinions on what transpired and your thoughts on what happened. My daughter works in a regionally successful eyewear company with stores throughout the midwest including Tennessee. She is a sales person who helps customers pick out frames and get their glasses and contacts made. She works for commission and her time is valuable. Yesterday Mr. and Mrs. X came into the store. Upon entering, they passed by an obvious sign that states "No Guns or Weapons Allowed on These Premises." (I know its not the sign required by statute but that's not germane to what happens later). Upon entering, my daughter asks Mr.& Mrs. X if she could help them. They said yes and proceeded with the normal routine of purchasing two pairs of glasses. My daughter spent over an hour helping them with their purchase. Upon completing all the details of the purchase they all proceeded to the register where the transaction would be finalized and the bill was totaled to about $800.00. At this point Mr. X asks my daughter why her store does not support 2nd Amendment rights. (Let me say at this point that my daughter is about as unpolitical as one can be. She has absolutely no interest in politics and no interest in guns or 2nd Amendment issues and has no opinion, one way or another, on what the laws should be). When asked the question by Mr. X, she asked him what he meant. He said "that sign on the door says no guns are allowed in this store." My daughter, being taken a little off guard by the question, jokingly said "well there are a lot of thugs that come in here and we don't want them bringing their guns in." (I know, bad answer if it was one of us, but coming from her in this situation I understand her saying it). At this point Mrs. X speaks up and says "I don't think your Dad would buy anything from this store if he knew their anti 2nd Amendment policy." (I am only vaguely familiar with these people. Mr.X and I were involved in a minor fender bender about 30 years ago where no one was charged and no hard feelings. Our paths have crossed occasionally over the years and we have never spoke more than to say "hi, how's it going" or some such greeting. I guess if you are into firearms like I am, word gets out around the community.) My daughter then explained to the X's that the manager is who they should talk to but he was off yesterday. They thought for a minute and then said they would go home and think about it and decide if they could purchase from that store and they would let her know. Then turned and walked out. Needless to say, when my girl swung by my house to tell me about this she was really upset. She came in to where I was at and half jokingly asked me, "What's the matter with you gun people?" (She likes to jab at me when she can and she took this opportunity to dig it in.) These people had taken over an hour of her time -after seeing the sign that upset them so much - and kept her from helping other customers for which she could have been earning a commission. She is a struggling Mom and every penny is important to her. She doesn't make the store rules. Now she, along with all the others who work at that store have a very negative opinion of those pro 2nd Amendment folks. And I think, by implication, the rest of us as well. I think it is important to pick our battles wisely. But to pick a battle with a lowly store clerk over the policies of a multi-state eyewear conglomerate does not sound like prudent battle picking to me. What do you all think of the actions of Mr. & Mrs X? Did they do a good job of defending 2nd Amendment rights? Would you do the same as they did?
  4. OK lets see: You get $1350.00 in a poker payout. You're going to spend $600.00 on handgun(s) You're going to spend $400.00 on shotgun. That leaves $350.00 to spend on the "old lady or she'll throw a hissy)". Dude, you are going to suffer for this and I fear for for your life. Better rethink the inequitable division of finances or trouble looms for you. If you continue down this road of chance be careful. And if your eggs and oatmeal have a funny "whang" the next time you sit down for breakfast, run like the wind, leave the guns at home, and get outa Dodge. Let the lawyers divide up the household goods in the safety of a courtroom. I don't know what your inteded purpose for the handgun(s) are but since you asked about the LCP I will say I got one about a month ago and so far I love mine. Great shooter and extremely concealable. Which is what I was looking for.

  11. Good for you Gunslinger707. I tried to convince my two daughters that are now married that a cheap, inexpensive wedding was the way to go but no dice. I guess the example of their mom and dad couldn't overcome the need to be like everyone else.
  12. In 1970 me and my wife to be went to Gate City, VA to get married on a Saturday because in those days you could get married the same day you got your license. After we got the blood test at the doctor's office around the corner we picked up our license at the courthouse and proceeded down to the barber shop where there was a preacher/barber who would perform the wedding. We walked in to a roomfull of men waiting to get a haircut and asked the preacher (who was cutting a guy's hair) if he would marry my girlfriend and me. He said "sure, just as soon as I finish this guy's haircut. Have a seat and I'll be done in a minute." When he got done he asked us if we wanted to get married in the barber shop or did we want to go somewhere more private. We opted for the privacy and he said "we'll go to the furniture store next door." So we walked next door and went in the furniture store, and right there, about 10 feet inside the front door, he performed our wedding. When he finished and pronounced us "man and wife" I asked him how much I owed him. He said "how much is she worth?" I looked in my wallet and asked, "ya got change for a twenty?" I then received my first punch in the shoulder from my lovely new bride. I gave him the twenty and told him to keep the change and we left and headed to Gatlinburg to get as much "honeymoonen" in as we could before I left for Texas the following Tuesday for basic training. 38 years - three daughters - three grandkids - and a cabinet full of guns and we're still together and lovin it. Best twenty bucks I ever spent.
  13. I recently flew from Knoxville to Phoenix and back on U.S. Airways and here is how it went. Packed my XD9 in the case it came in with two empty mags in the foam cutout. Placed a lock on the gun case. The gun case is supposed to be locked with a non TSA lock to which only you have the key or combination. Packed a box of ammo in the box it came in in a suitcase and packed the guncase in the same suitcase. Placed a TSA lock on the suitcase. When checking in, I declared an "unloaded firearm" in my luggage. (Don't just blurt out "I have a gun." (Your travel plans may quickly change) They had me open the suitcase and show them the guncase. In Knoxville I did not have to open the guncase and show them it was empty. In Phoenix I did. Placed the firearm tag that the ticket agent gave me inside the suitcase, closed it up and locked it back with the TSA lock and took it to the TSA inspector (or whatever they are called) and he put it through their machine (I guess some kind of X-ray) and told me everything was fine and I went on my way. Couldn't have went smoother.
  14. I found it here: http://www.nbcolympics.com/video/player.html?assetid=0808_hd_ocb_hl_en197 You don't have to download their player. When the option comes up, click the "proceed without download" option and it will play just fine.
  15. In Kingsport, one of the best family owned restaurants is Pop's on John B. Dennis Bypass. They have the best fried catfish I've ever had. You can get it anytime but on Friday you can order "all you can eat" and when you see the parking lot you'll know how much the locals like this place. But I can't fail to to mention in Pigeon Forge do not fail to go at least once to "The Old Mill Restaurant." There is a lot of good eating in Pigeon Forge and Gatlinburg and I've tried a lot of them. But nothing can beat the Old Mill in my opinion. Not the cheapest, but I think the best. The corn chowder that comes with every meal is almost worth the cost of the meal itself. http://www.oldmillsquare.com/restaurant.htm
  16. An old hillbilly farmer had a wife who nagged him unmercifully. From morning till night (and sometimes later), she was always complaining about something. The only time he got any relief was when he was out plowing with his old mule. He tried to plow a lot. One day, when he was out plowing, his wife brought him lunch in the field. He drove the old mule into the shade, sat down on a stump, and began to eat his lunch. Immediately, his wife began nagging him again. Complain, nag, complain, nag; it just went on and on. All of a sudden, the old mule lashed out with both hind feet, caught her smack in the back of the head. Killed her dead on the spot. At the funeral several days later, the minister noticed something rather odd. When a woman mourner would approach the old farmer, he would listen for a minute, then nod his head in agreement; but when a man mourner approached him, he would listen for a minute, then shake his head in disagreement. This was so consistent, the minister decided to ask the old farmer about it. So after the funeral, the minister spoke to the old farmer, and asked him why he nodded his head and agreed with the women, but always shook his head and disagreed with all the men. The old farmer said, "Well, the women would come up and say something about how nice my wife looked, or how pretty her dress was, so I'd nod my head in agreement." "And what about the men?" the minister asked. "They wanted to know if the mule was for sale."
  17. The best place I've found for the information you want is: http://handgunlaw.us/ Click on the left side where it says: US OFF-LIMITS A-M US OFF-LIMITS N-Z When the pdf files come up, scroll down to the state you are interested in. On the line where the state is listed you will see: MUST NOTIFY OFFICER Y/N This site has a world of info on firearms laws for all the states and other areas as well. And it seems to be accurate info and updated frequently. Of course, to be absolutely sure, you need to contact the individual states to verify the accuracy of any online information regardless of the source. Here is the links to the state laws referred to above. http://handgunlaw.us/documents/USOffLimitsA-M.pdf http://handgunlaw.us/documents/USOffLimitsN-W.pdf
  18. Here is Jamie Simpson who is the spokesmodel for Rug and Home in Asheville, NC. I have heard of people stopping in just to see if she is there, but all she does is make the commercials.
