  1. Speaker Kent Williams aint sounding so good on some of this: http://hosted.ap.org/dynamic/stories/T/TN_XGR_LEGISLATURE_BEGINS_TNOL-?SITE=TNKIN&SECTION=HOME&TEMPLATE=DEFAULT&CTIME=2009-02-08-12-51-49
  2. I assume an "o" ring that fits an 1187 would fit an 1100. I was told on shotgunworld.com that a #33 "o" ring from the plumbing section in hardware would work. I went to Home Depot and picked up a couple to keep on hand. I gave one to a fellow shooter on the skeet range when his blew out and it worked just fine.
  3. The Civic Auditorium and Meadowview are the only venues I've gone to for gun shows so to compare them to other places is kinda hard for me to do. Naturally with the Civic Auditorium being much smaller than Meadowview it can't have as much for sale or have as many attending. But I have run across a couple of good deals on guns there. I don't know why they schedule a gun show the week after Meadowview. It seems like they've done that before.
  4. I got there this morning and it took 45 minutes to get in the building with guns to check. I've never seen the line going in so long. I had to park across the main road behind the last building going up the hill. Thank goodness they had a shuttle bus running from the Convention Center to all the parking areas. After walking around inside for four hours trying to sell my shotgun, my feet were killing me. And as said already, prices way too high on most of the merchandise. I saw one Ruger LCP for $500, and he wouldn't budge. Admission was $10. Gun Show next weekend at Civic Auditorium in Kpt.
  5. Welcome to the site. Always good to have a fellow East Tennesseean come aboard.
  6. I had a chance to go to that but did not think I could so I passed. Turns out I could have went. My daughter did go and called me this morning and said that was the best concert she has ever been to (and she's been to a lot). If I ever get another chance I'll be sure and go.
  7. Tedbo, that's exactly why this question has bothered me as well. Anyone who looks at me would probably think for a middle 50's guy that I'm in pretty good shape and could handle myself in a physical confrontation. But my deteriorated disk that gives me a constant backache and my slightly out of whack rotator cuff prevent me from being able to bring the appropriate force to the game if the need should arise. Therefore I must rely on force bought at the gunstore to see me through the tough times should they appear.
  8. Perhaps this has been discussed before but a search did not give me any results so here's my question. Does the law define what many refer to as "disproportionate response"? A host on a local talk show said this week that you cannot use a weapon to defend yourself unless your assailant has a weapon. He said if you are a reasonably physically fit individual and some thug tells you he is going to beat the crap out of you, then you do not have the right to use a gun to defend yourself from attack. I think he's wrong in his interpretation of the law but that is what he said. Now I know the law says that you can use a weapon to defend yourself if you have a reasonable belief of an imminent danger of death or serious bodily injury and quite frankly, I would assume that someone coming at me, with the intention of hitting me, is attempting to cause me "serious bodily injury." But I was wondering if there are any actual cases where the "theory" of disproportionate response played a part in how someone was treated for using a weapon in self defense.
  9. Wow, that is one beautiful gun ya got there. One question though: If you use a gun like that to shoot an IDPA match and you drop it in the mud, is there a special way to clean the ivory grips? I don't know much about ivory and was just curious.
  10. I took two guns in the same case when I flew to Arizona last spring. I took my XD9 and my avatar favorite mini revolver. Nobody asked to see if either gun was unloaded and no questions were asked by anyone. I did mistakenly think that the gun case needed to have a TSA lock on it (the gun case is supposed to be locked with a combo lock or key lock that only you have the combo or key). One TSA agent noticed this when he checked my suitcse and pointed out my mistake but still sent me on my way. He could have required me to get another lock but nothing else was said.
  11. I concur. Flying with a firearm is very easy from my experience. Each airline has its own rules and you can go to each airline's website to see what they require but most if not all have pretty much the same requirements as the Transportation Safety Administration (TSA). Just be aware that all firearms and ammo must be transported in your "checked baggage." Nothing can be carried into the passenger area as "carry on" luggage. From the TSA website: http://www.tsa.gov/travelers/airtravel/assistant/editorial_1666.shtm
  12. I'm sorry about you losing your job Tim. You've sent out a lot of good information to help gun owners over the years. You will be missed but I know you will stay in the fight in some other way. I saw your comments about the lady in question: Who is she and where can we find out how to contact her? If we can.
  13. Here's a clip of Williams yesterday. Listen to him ask Naifeh if he is required to recognize someone who wishes to speak: [ame] [/ame]Why'd you violate your oath? [ame]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fDpoEqlO6gQ[/ame]
  14. Here in Kingsport there is an Italian restaurant that I eat at occasionally. I have noticed their "No Weapons" sign in the past but had never really stopped to read the whole thing as I thought it kind of redundant to post a sign banning weapons in a restaurant that serves alcohol. However, tonight when I went in to pick up some food my wife had ordered I stopped to read the sign completely and found it to be just like the sign posted in the OP: "No weapons where alcohol is sold or served." And I remembered this thread that I had just read through last night. I went on in and picked up my food and just as I was about to leave I thought "why not say something about this and see what kind of reaction I get?" So I told the young man who rang up my order ( I think he is a member of the family that owns the restaurant) that I noticed the sign at the front and that he really ought to get a sign that is current with TN Law and not outdated. He told me that he had just been to a meeting last week of restaurant owners and was told that that sign had to be posted in any restaurant that serves alcohol. I told him that I was sure that the information that he was given was incorrect and explained to him that TN Law has changed and that the sign he has was correct in the past but is no longer. I tried to make him understand there is a difference between a place where alcohol is sold vs. where it is served, but I don't think it ever really sunk in. He was so sure that the sign he has is required I don't think he could get passed what he was defending to listen to what I was saying. Anyway, I didn't ever sound argumentative and the conversation was pleasant from beginning to end. I think the whole subject was over his head and he really didn't know how to respond to my questions. But he tried, and I'll give him that. I don't think its a problem to point out an incorrect sign to a place where it is illegal to carry a weapon regardless of what kind of sign is posted. But I would never point it out to a place where it would interfere with my rights if they posted correctly.
  15. Looks like a great set up. I bet it was fun to shoot. I just hope they never start playing that infernal music in the background at my range when we have our IDPA matches. I don't see how you can concentrate on your shooting.
  16. Now let's see, school teachers from New York and Wash. D.C. are canceling trips to several National Parks due to Bush allowing guns in these parks? I don't believe this for a second but if it were true, then these "teachers" need to realilze that by just being in New York or D.C. they are surrounded by bad guys with guns as both places are "Gangster Disneylands." How could it be any worse in a National Park where presumably now the "good guys" will be allowed to carry? But the Brady Bunch is just trying to scare their people because with the rule change, in New York or D.C. you will still be required to have a carry permit to visit the Parks with a gun and the chance of citizens in either place having a permit are practically nill.
  17. Welcome from Kingsport. I shoot IDPA at Tac2 as well. Half the year I shoot at Tac2 and the other half I shoot at Kettlefoot. Rotating shift schedule at work makes it impossible to shoot both places in the same month.

    Ruger LCP Recall

MPain, I believe I would call Ruger and ask about this. It was my understanding also that the diamond stamp was the proof that the hammer had been replaced. If the stamp isn't there you may still have a safety issue. If you ever go to sell the gun, no diamond stamp may hurt your sale.

    J Floyds?

Just last night I saw a comercial for J. Floyds on TV. I had never heard of them and I've never been to their store. But I tried to find them on the internet and all I could find was their website advertising golf equipment. The comercial on TV showed an awful lot of guns. Do they advertise their gun shop on the internet?
  20. I'll be sending that one to my daughters ASAP.
  21. If the movie is as good as the preview it will be well worth the price of a ticket.
  22. From what I've read, you cannot carry into any building in the National Parks even with the rule change.
