  1. Watch it here: Conference Committee HB0962 -- SB1127
  2. Just called two of the Reps and talked to their staff people and both of them were "pretty sure" that the joint committee in the post above is the one where 0962 is going to be hashed out.
  3. I can't find on the Legislative calandar for today where anyone is meeting in room 31. The only scheduled meeting I can find that looks like it might be the one is this: General Assembly Schedule and it says they are meeting at 2:00 in room HHR16. And they don't have an agenda posted for this meeting (as of right now). Does anyone know if this is the meeting where the Restaurant bill is to be worked out. I sure don't want to miss this one.
  4. If, and, then it looks like a majority vote in our favor is looking better all the time as far as getting an agreement out of this committee. It would seem that the makeup of the committee could have been a lot worse than this. But I am still going to call everyone on the list.
  5. The Judiciary Committee is meeting now and is supposed to discuss this bill last. Senate-Judiciary
  6. I posted the OP when I realized this bill was on the schedule for today and could not find where anyone else had already done so. Since I worked nights last night I had to go to bed right after I posted the OP. A few minutes ago I got up and logged on and read this thread from start to finish without knowing the outcome first. This was a fun way to learn what happened today. Following the play-by-play really got my adrenaline going. Before the final vote I halfway expected Jack Bauer to come running into the Chamber and take Nafieh hostage and force everyone to vote the right way. Too bad that was not the case. If this goes to the conference committee, does anyone know how the members are selected to be a part of that? You would think, at the very least, the sponsor of the bill would have the sayso in who goes to work on his bill.
  7. Restaurant Carry bill is to be considered again in the House today 4/23/09 at 9:00a.m. (Nashville time) I guess this is to debate whether to go along with the Senate version or not. Keep your fingers crossed. 2. *HB0962 by *Todd, *McCord, *Tindell, *Evans, *Fincher*Watson, *Faulkner, *Eldridge, *Rowland, *McCormick, *Bass, *Hackworth, *Cobb C, *Carr, *Matheny, *Mumpower, *Floyd, *Bell, *Lollar, *Casada, *Rich, *Lynn, *Harrison, *Shipley, *Dean, *Johnson C, *Johnson P, *Niceley, *Tidwell, *Shepard, *Hill, *Ramsey, *Halford, *Haynes, *Swafford, *Maggart, *Hensley, *West, *Montgomery, *Dennis, *Brooks H, *Matlock, *Dunn, *Hawk, *Lundberg, *Weaver, *Roach, *Ford , *Moore, *Fraley. 8. I don't think Naifeh is nearly as dumb as a lot of folks seem to think he is. No one could really be as stupid as he sounded yesterday during the House session. When he stood up to ask Niceley some questions about the bill he asked him if it would be a good idea to have shooting ranges in the State Parks where people could target practice. Niceley should have stopped him right there and told him that such a thing has absolutely nothing to do with HB0716, but he didn't. He took the bait and told Naifeh that it would be a good idea and probably would raise some money for the State to allow that kind of thing. Well Naifeh took that soundbite and ran with it and told the chamber that now you may be out at a State Park with your kids and someone may decide to set up a tin can and start target practicing. He went on to explain that he "knows what a ricochet can do." In other words, Naifeh knew that this scenario that he described was a canard from his own imagination and had nothing to do with the bill. But it gave him an opportunity to stand up for the people that put him in office and will no doubt do so again. He is a lot of things, but "dumb" is not one. He knows how to play the political system and he will do anything he can to do so.

  17. Dang, that's really not that much different that shooting trap. I may have to try something like that. The reaction from the golfers is hilarious.
  18. Doug Jackson for Governor!! And I usually vote Republican.
  19. They are voting on SB1127 right now.
  20. HB0716: Carry in State Parks was passed today 4/14/09 in the Finance, Ways and Means Committee and sent to the Calendar and Rules Committee. Follow this link to view the discussion House-Finance,Ways, and Means Click on HB0716 under the video screen to go directly to the discussion for that bill. It never ceases to amaze me the objections that are brought up by the opponents of pro gun legislation, but the rep. who brought up the idea that some people may carry guns with silencers takes the cake.
  21. I saw this and thought it was unusual. Pretty neat too!
  22. If you're interested in watching the debate on this bill you can see it here: House-Judiciary-Criminal Practice and Procedure After clicking the above link, wait until the page downloads and under the video screen click on HB1395. This is a pretty good debate with several guests representing both sides speeking before the committee. It lasts about 30 minutes.
  23. I thought it was interesting that when they started discussing this bill, Sen. Jackson recognized Chris Cox, Executive Director of the NRA/ILA as being at the meeting.
