  4. Didn't see anything on this. Excuse me if a repost. Senate bill 0976 passed yesterday 5/12/09 out of Finance Committee and was sent to the Calandar Committee. You can watch it here by clicking on 0976 under the video screen. Senator Beavers deserves a lot of credit for what she's done for gun owners in Tennessee. She speaks well for us in this clip. 5. Senate Backs Allowing Loaded Guns in National Parks - Presidential Politics | Political News - FOXNews.com Senate Backs Allowing Loaded Guns in National Parks Republican Sen. Tom Coburn of Oklahoma sponsored the amendment, which would restore a Bush administration policy allowing loaded guns in national parks. WASHINGTON -- The Senate has approved a measure that would allow people to carry loaded guns in national parks and wildlife refuges. Republican Sen. Tom Coburn of Oklahoma sponsored the amendment, which would restore a Bush administration policy allowing loaded guns in national parks. A federal judge blocked the policy in March. The Obama administration said it would not appeal the ruling. The gun amendment was attached to a bill imposing restrictions on credit card companies. The amendment was approved 67-29.
  6. That's my take on it but I have heard that so many times this year and in the past that I got to thinking that maybe they know something that I don't.
  7. In the link to the news article there are a lot of comments posted where this story and law is being debated. One response contained this: There are quite a few responses where the comment is made that insurance rates will go sky high for restaurants because of this law. I find it hard to believe that to be the case with all the restaurants in other states where this is allowed. But I don't know. Does anyone have any information on the effect on insurance rates in states where guns are allowed in restaurants where alcohol is served?
  8. Could people be more misinformed or deliberately misleading in what they are saying about this bill? Johnson City bar owner: 'Alcohol and guns don't mix' - Kingsport Times-News Online Johnson City bar owner: 'Alcohol and guns don't mix' By NET News Service Published May 10th, 2009
  9. Didn't wan't to hijack the thread on "Restaurant Carry" so I'm posing this question here. While browsing through some of the comment sections in online newspaper articles concerning the passage of the Restaurant Carry Legislation, I am seeing more and more posts that are saying something to the effect that many, many restaurants where alcohol is served will now just start posting to disallow carry into their establishments. This got me to wondering whether this is likely to happen in Tennessee. Since 38 other states currently allow concealed carry in restaurants that serve alcohol I would just like to know if many restaurants in those states really post "no-carry" signs in their establishments or is this just wishful-thinking on the part of antis in TN? I posted this question on a nation wide forum that has thousands of members and got a lot of responses from folks all around the country and the consensus of opinion is that restaurants where alcohol is served generally do not post no-carry signs. Even the chain restaurants generally don't post. To be sure, some places do post but overall it isn't done a lot. So, what is your experience when traveling to other states that already allow carry in restaurants the serve alcohol? Have you seen a lot of signs? I would also be interested to know if anyone on this board has had any conversations with restaurant owners/managers to find out what they personally plan to do about signs and posting when this becomes law.
  10. Here's a poll to hit. The Times News has been a pretty friendly paper for gun owners. But right now this poll doesn't look too good. Kingsport Times-News Online - Kingsport, Tennessee Breaking News and Information Do you think it's a good idea to allow Tennessee handgun carry permit holders to bring their guns into businesses that serve alcohol? No. 50% Yes. 46% I don't care one way or the other. 5% Total Votes: 533
  11. I had never heard of Rep. Cobb from Spring City. I don't even know where Spring City is. But he gave an endorsement for this bill today in a way that you don't often hear a politician give. I copied it down word for word and I thought ya'll might find it interesting. He said: If you watch the video: House Session he speaks at 04:24 on the clock. For those who think it does no good to call or write your representative, here is one who says that is exactly what caused him to vote for something that he himself did not agree with. To all those who did something, in whatever capacity it was, congratulations on being part of the reason this has come to pass. And considering the difficulty of the opposition in years gone by, that is no small thing to get done.
  12. No. Restaurant carry is being worked on with another bill not on this list.
  13. The first six bills in the OP were rolled to next year.
  14. I believe that bill was sent to a "summer study" and won't be brought back up until next year.
  15. Bill Summary HB1806 Present law makes it an offense for a person to possess or carry a firearm not used solely for instructional or school-sanctioned ceremonial purposes, in or on any school building, bus, or grounds or any other property owned, used or operated by any board of education, school, college or university board of trustees, regents or directors for the administration of any public or private educational institution. The offense is a Class B misdemeanor, unless committed with an intent to go armed, in which case it is a Class E felony. Under present law, the Class B misdemeanor offense does not apply if the firearm is contained within a private vehicle operated by the adult and is not handled by the adult, or by any other person acting with the expressed or implied consent of the adult, while the vehicle is on school property. This bill adds that the Class E felony offense also does not apply in such circumstances; however, under this bill, the exception will only apply to the offenses if the person has a handgun carry permit.

  22. The full House is scheduled to meet at 4:00 p.m.(Nashville time) Todd talked like he would like to have it voted on tonight if he can. I think its safe to say that if it passes tonight or Thursday in the House, the only thing that could stop it would be a veto by the Gov. and that would probably only be temporary. I hope that's right!?!?
  23. I think the vote was 3-2 on the House side and unless I'm mistaken it was unanimous on the Senate side for passage of the Senate version with no restrictions on carry.
