This speech is a classic. Makes more sense than anything I've heard coming out of Nashville.

Apparently, the only LE that was in favor of the veto were "some" of the ones who stood with the governor at the press conference. Jackson better be careful, the Bredesen backers will be out to get him.

Couldn't they get somebody with a more sympathetic voice to read a tribute to someone who's passed away? That's torture to listen to.

I think I just saw Naifeh and Hardaway peeping around that wall in the upper left hand corner. I know they're up to no good!!!

I just looked up and read HB0962 and I don't see anything in the bill about a June 1 effective date. It does say: "This act shall take effect upon becoming a law, the public welfare requiring" And SB1127 says the same thing. Does anyone know where the June 1 date came from? Was it added on somewhere but not made part of the original bill that you can read online?

I thought they were going to fight before it was over.

I've never seen so many bills rolled 5 or 10 spaces or to the "heel" of the calendar. By the time they get done rolling everything they are going to have to go back over most of the bills being considered for today.

That pretty much sums me up as well. Then a couple of years ago a friend invited me to go shoot IDPA with him and I learned real quick just how difficult it can be to shoot quickly and accurately. If at all possible try to go and participate in an IDPA shoot somewhere. You will be amazed at how much you will learn and how much fun you can have.

In the video of today's press conference, District Attorney General Tommy Thompson made some remarks, of which the following was part of what he said: I wonder how many of those "law officers or anything else" standing behind him were carrying weapons as he spoke? I suppose this was one of Bredesen's advisors on gun policy. What he was talking about had nothing to do with the subject at hand but his true position on Handgun Carry in general slipped out on this one.

After one of the worst days I've ever had on my job, I couldn't wait to get home and check this board and find out how it went today. It almost makes the bad day I had worth it to hear how this went. Can't wait to watch the video.

Went tonight and saw Star Trek. Loved it from beginning to end. Fantastic special effects and a lot of unexpected comedy thrown in. Tells the story of how the original crew: Capt. Kirk, Spock, Ohura, Scotty, Bones, Chekov, Sulu and others got together to begin with. 4 Star movie all the way.

I posted this on the other thread talking about this. Figured I'd put it here too in case you missed it there.

For what its worth, yesterday I called Sen. Ramsey's office and talked to one of his staff people. Later I called Rep. Jon Lundberg (my rep) and talked to him personally. They both told me the same story: There is no way the Legislature is going to wrap up this session before late in June. They've not even come up with a budget yet. So it doesn't matter when the Governor got the bill, the 10 day period will expire well before this session of the Legislature is over. If its necessary to override a veto, it will be done before they go home from this session.
