  1. I didn't find this video through a search, so I hope its not a repost. Amazing video of a Bear tearing up a car in the Clingman's Dome parking lot in the Smoky Mountains. This appears to be a fairly large bear but look at how close some of the tourists get to it to take a picture.
  2. Not trying to be argumentative, but I think that this is not right. It is my understanding that at least for the time being, any travel through National Parks requires any firearms to be stored unloaded and out of reach. From the NRA website: There is a provision in Federal law that allows transport of firearms via interstate highways, regardless of state laws to the contrary, but the guns must be locked up and out of reach.
  3. Just ran across this video where Irlene Mandrell is interviewed by Crook and Chase. She starts talking about shooting at 1:50. Check out the homepage on her website: Irlene Mandrell - homepage Has anybody been to her place "The Nashville Palace?"
  4. Just follow the rules laid out in the links provided and you won't have any trouble. I flew to Arizona last year and to Montana this year and honestly, it was easier to get my guns checked in than it was to get my wife checked in. The only problem I had was this year I bought a different case to put my guns in ( Ruger P-94 and an LCP). I did not check the case to see if it could be accessed while locked, and unforturnately it could. With the lock in place on the handle (like it was designed) you could open the snaps and still get your hand in one side of the case and pull out a gun if you were really determined. Two TSA agents came out to me and told me the problem they were having with the case and asked if I had a smaller lock that I could put on the handle. Lucky for me I did. Once the smaller lock was attached to the case, the case could not be opened enough to get your hand in and everything was cool. I bought a different case in Montana to avoid any problems on my return flight. Take your gun, follow the rules, and you won't have any problems.
  5. After 580 posts I finally get one right. Its about time.
  6. OK, here is the sign linked to Michie.com As you can see, it says "CARRYING", not "possession" nor "illegal possession." So unless there is another sign floating around out there that some people have seen it is obvious that this sign needs to be updated to reflect the law as it is today to avoid confusion.
  7. I noticed a sign like this about a year ago in an Italian Restaurant in Kingsport so I asked the manager about it. He told me he was required by law to display it. This was before the recent change to allow carry in restaurants that serve alcohol, but the sign was still wrong and outdated because it said firearms could not be carried where alcohol is "sold or served". That has not been the law for years. Its like the ABC is trapped in a time warp and can't make a new sign to reflect the law as it is now.
  8. Outstanding video!

  10. Well, I'm home now. We spent 12 days just driving around the State of Montana, trying to see as much of the State as we could see. Mountain ranges, museums, ghost towns, Little Big Horn, Buffalo Bill's Historical Center (Wyoming), Yellowstone, and to top it off, on the last day I checked out a Cabela's in Billings. That is one amazing store. The Gun Library in Cabela's is worth going to see if you don't do anything else. You don't often see guns for sale in the $40,000 range but they had them.
  11. Capt. Thunder, Sorry I didn't respond before now. I believe the name of the store was "Bob Ward and Sons", in Butte Montana.
  12. This is a video that was sent to me today. This will really put a smile on your face if not an outright belly laugh. Its only 5 minutes so be sure to watch it all the way through. You guys need to get your better halves to watch this with you.
  13. That's a guy I would love to vote for.
  14. Just got back from a two week vacation in Montana. The only problem I had was checking my bags at Tri Cities Airport. I was traveling with two handguns in a locked case. Unforturnately I did not check the case that well after it was locked and one side of it could be pryed up enough to reach in and get a gun if you really tried. The TSA agent came and told me what the problem was and that she was going to talk to her supervisor and see if something could be done to make it work. The supervisor came and they talked it over (behind the counter and wall, out of my sight). Then they came back and asked me if I had a smaller lock that they could try. Luckily for me, I did. I gave it to them, they took it back to the luggage and replaced the bigger lock with the smaller one and they said it would be OK if I just put a lock on the suitcase itself, which I did.... and that's how it went. I think both of the agets went beyond what most would expect them to do to get me outta Kingsport with my handguns. They couldn't have been more helpfull or pleasant to deal with. While I was in Montana I bought another gun case that worked better just to avoid any delays or problems on my return trip.

  16. I am currently on vacation in Montana. The other day I noticed a sporting goods store next to my motel and thought I would go over and check it out. They had a fairly good size gun dept. so I walked up to the counter and jokingly told the guy I would like to buy all the .380 he had. Jokingly he asked if I had a wheelbarrow to haul it out with. Long story short he had a lot of .380(Magtec). I told him about how we haven't been able to get any for some time in Kingsport. He said he went through a dry spell some time ago that lasted about three months but for the last few months he's not had any trouble keeping it stocked. If I wasn't flying home I would have bought some more but because of baggage weight I had to limit myself to 2 boxes at $18.50 per box of 50. I guess you can still strike gold in Montana.
  17. Bays Mountain is considered a city park so unless the Board of M & A exempt it, then it will be no carry. A friend of mine was hiking up there just a couple of weeks ago and came up on a mama bear and two cubs. The ranger he talked to later told him they have been seeing more bear this year than ever before.

  20. Your exactly right. Unfortunately I think this is a snapshot of a larger than realized segment of our society whose only goal is to get a check and then a bigger check from Uncle Sam (taxpayers). I am being constantly reminded of this quote: And it seems that now, more than ever, the political powers that be are figuring more and more ways to take from the haves and give to the have nots.
  21. This is soooo good. A caller to a radio show, complains about not getting enough government support (food stamps etc.) but says he will not work more than 32 hours a week.
  22. Welcome from Kingsport.
  23. HB1395 by Evans As introduced, prohibits employers from prohibiting persons possessing a handgun carry permit from transporting and storing a firearm out of sight in a locked vehicle on any property set aside for vehicles. Action Def. in s/c Criminal Practice and Procedure of JUD to summer study 04/08/2009. We won't hear any more about this bill until next session.
  24. Is any attempt going to be made to find out if the restaurant that is chosen plans on posting or not?
  25. Glad to have ya. Especially since you're from Kpt.
