http://www.johnsonci...1#ixzz1xgtUQj7b "It was a little before midnight Monday when Hensley said Unicoi County 911 received a call stating an individual was holding several hikers hostage at the Beauty Spot lookout on Unaka Mountain. Hensley, who took the call, said the caller stated the man had approached the group of five hikers with a handgun drawn, told them that he was a game warden, and ordered them to get down on their hands and knees. The 911 call, Hensley said, came from one of the hikers allegedly being taken hostage." Unfortunately for the bad guy, he picked on the wrong group of hikers to assault.....

"GATLINBURG — Authorities are on the hunt for a stranger who slashed and sexually assaulted a 44-year-old woman in the Great Smoky Mountains National Park Friday. Veteran personnel at the Great Smoky Mountains National Park said they don't recall an incident of this magnitude occurring in the Park — especially with the tourist season in full swing." http://www.knoxnews.com/news/2012/jun/09/attack-in-great-smoky-mountains-national-park/?partner=yahoo_feeds

If this has been posted, excuse me. I checked and didn't find it. This is a video of John Harris discussing this subject back in March. Very interesting. -

Employee Safe Commute (Parking Lot) Campaign

I've heard several times today on news breaks on the radio that Sen. Ramsey is working to stop the Senate version of the "Safe Commute" bill from going forward. So I called his office and asked the lady who answered if this was true. She said that was absolutely untrue and that Sen. Ramsey is still in favor of the bill and wants to see it pass. I asked if she had been hearing these reports as well and she said she had and again reaffirmed that Sen. Ramsey is still supportive of the bill. She also said she had been getting a lot of calls today about this. If you would like to call here is his number: 1-800-449-8366 then when asked for the extension you want, punch in 14524. -
Which gun to carry on my hike?
waynesan replied to timcar86's topic in Handgun Carry and Self Defense
Bear spray is a must. From all I've read, Bear Spray is the most effective way to stop a bear attack. I've done a lot of hiking in the Smokey's and other areas as well where bears are common, and I have never had any kind of encounter. But I always carry bear spray for the critters and a Ruger LCP or XD40 for the two legged problems. Never had a reason to use either but I'm ready if the need arises. Here is a video on the effectiveness of bear spray: -

I don't know why I find more news about this bill from news sorces out west than around here but that's what I've been finding. Here is another: http://www.deseretnews.com/article/765566048/Ramsey-chides-Chamber-for-focus-on-guns-pre-K.html "While Ramsey acknowledged that the guns-in-parking-lots measure involves prickly property rights issues, he expects to reach a compromise before the bill heads for a vote." -

"They gave some pretty weak answers to the, "How will this affect your businesses?" question. We should ditch this legislation because: 1. FedEx is safe (but they can't guarantee it) and this will make it unsafe (but they can't provide any statistics to support this). 2. It might scare some international students away because they made the mistake of getting an education in the Patron State of Shootin' Stuff. 3. They actually do need a good reason to fire people because now, the terminated individual can claim racism, sexism, and gun-ism? Is that all they got? " Yeah, that's all they got!! -
Employee Safe Commute (Parking Lot) Campaign

Watched the Senate Judiciary Committee today as they allowed opponents of the "Parking Lot" Bill have their say. Four opponents were allowed to testify and it looked like there were about ten more that would have if there had been time. The ones that did get to testify did so with the usual arguments against this legislation and I thought were pretty effective in doing what they came to do, although I don't think they won the argument. One of the more telling exchanges was near the end when Sen. Bell asked the head of FEDEX if there had been any problems at FEDEX in the states that have already passed legislation like this. The answer was no. He believed the first state to pass a law like this was in Oklahoma about 5-6 years ago and he had never heard of a problem there. You can watch the entire testimony at this link: http://tnga.granicus...89&clip_id=5069 The gun bill starts at 00:23:32 and ends at 1:27:00. -

When you go thru a lane at walmart with all your merchandise and you want tobacco products, just tell the cashier in the line you are going thru and they will go get the product for you and you won't have to go thru two lines. At least that's how they operate in the stores I've been in around here in Kpt. -

Can't wait either. The "walker massacre" at the barn that ended the last episode was one of the best scenes ever filmed for any TV show.
