  1. I have two 5.11 belts: one is the fat nylon webbing one and the other is the leather casual one. I like 'em both.
  2. There seems to be a pattern forming. It seems most of the LEO's actually out there doing the job are pretty much pro carry. Once they get to the more political positions on the force it seems they could go either way, depending on who their mayor or other boss is.
  3. Carbon, for being a self-described noob, you are observant and right on. Many people get their permit and never really carry though, so let's hope he is either one of them or that he gets a bit more comfortable with his firearm before he does.
  4. We have a winner. It's free! Thanks, Kano. And to Tim: Yep, we're just around the bend. I live across the river in the neighborhood behind the red caboose. That's right city folks, I said behind the red caboose. Now them's country directions.
  5. I was wondering this just yesterday. That's funny.
  6. Lookin' forward to it. I'll be there with my Zombie Research Society shirt on and a beer in hand.
  7. I have seen that before, but it was before I got my 1911. i will now bookmark it for future reference. Is that a series 70 or 80 depicted? Amazon was the first place I went but like you said there are more books than you can shake a stick at. I just don't know which is worth buying. Thanks. I'll look into that. I have a Kimber though. I'm guessing it's completely Colt-centric? I know all designs are based on theirs so that may not be a huge deal. Thanks. Those are the first two that Amazon returned too and I was looking at them. If I just ordered Volume 2 would I be behind the power curve due to information in Volume 1, or is the Volume 2 just the updated version and not an extension of Volume 1? Blasphemy! A non-TGO gun forum?
  8. I'm interested in learning more about the 1911. Specifically I would like to learn enough to know the ins and outs of all the parts, etc. At least enough to do my own basic work to it. I'm not a gunsmith, I don't play one on TV, and I didn't stay at a Holiday Inn Express last night but I know my way around a tool box and I understand how a gun works. But I would like something that includes lots of pictures and diagrams that show what they're talking about. Suggestions?
  9. You mean the last one he hears? :-D
  10. It is ugly. But it's kind of sexy because of it. I would at least like to shoot one some day. Not sure if I would pick it over, say, a SOCOM II, which is also an sexy gun in its own ugly way. But it is one of those guns that has some history to it and would be fun regardless of its "Ugly Betty" looks.
  11. Oh, now you done it. So since TCA says in plain black and white that you are "immune" from a civil suit if your shooting was deemed to be justified, wouldn't it be illegal to even file a civil suit? I personally don't worry about it. I carry what I want, how I want. Like the old cliche goes, I'd rather be tried by twelve than carried by six.
  12. I don't know. While immensely funny, I barely made it to the bathroom to puke when that visual hit my brain.
  13. Look at the CIS website and check out their course descriptions for "Advanced Concealed Carry" and "Defensive Pistol." If you can't make it to the Nashville area for one of their classes, try to find someone reputable closer to you that offers similar training. You'll be surprised what you never thought of when you take one of these classes.
  14. I gotta say I'm with you on that. Most civilians have not been trained on how to properly detain/restrain a bad guy. Doing so improperly against someone playing possum will get you killed very quickly. I think your best bet is to keep your gun on him and, if alone, just watch your back. If not alone either have the other person check the area for more bad guys or hold their gun on him while you do.
  15. Please. Stewart is a left-wing comedian. Watch when he appears on O'Reilly or vice versa. He isn't tired of the arguing and bickering, he's just tired of the fact that his heroes are wrong and everyone is waking up to the fact. Bingo. He's a D-bag of the highest order. Or maybe second highest behind Bill Maher. Just typing his stupid name infuriates me.
  16. That'll look better on her anyway.
  17. There's definitely a fine line between protecting your family and being a paranoid buzz kill. I try to err on the side of letting my kids have a little fun and experience life. If they fall down and skin their knee it's not a crisis, it's a learning experience. You're only young once and who wants to remember their childhood as a time when you could have had fun if only your parents weren't hovering over you every second?
  18. I have actually seen this happen at between 15 and 20 MPH. I was chasing a drunk driver years ago before I had a cell phone. I had yelled out my window to anyone within ear shot for people to call the po-po's because this guy was driving at night with no lights in the wrong lane on unlit streets. He finally turned down one street where a cop was looking for him and coming the other direction. The drunk hit the cop car's front left tire with his front left tire and rode right up the side of the car and flipped it. You couldn't even tell the cop car got hit. One of the weirdest things I have ever seen.
  19. Very interesting concept. I might check these out.
  20. The percentage may be worse for employees, but 1) The businesses pay way more in pure numbers. And when taxes are lower for big business and the wealthy, the government actually brings in way more money. and 2) If the government was run with anything even resembling fiscal responsibility our taxes would be about half what they are now.
  21. I'd say it's closer to two weeks or less. It's getting very quick. Don't fret, it will be in your hands soon.
  22. Heck yea. Let 'em vote. And draw social security without paying taxes. And welfare programs. What's the worst that could happen?
