There was one thing in there that was absolutely true: "Law enforcement is usually required to end an active shooter situation" That's because they ALWAYS choose "gun free" zones to do their active shooting.

This was my second season out, and I had a very similar experience, though not as long and drawn out as yours. It definitely sucks not seeing any. What's worse was seeing them when I pulled into the woods, then nothing all day. Maybe next year.

It may depend on the weapon. But in the Army we trained with blanks all the time using our assigned weapons. While in my experience you were more likely to have a misfire with blanks, they certainly would cycle. Put one in the chamber, decock, safety off.

So basically you're asking, "Do you carry a gun or a rock?" Guess you know my answer. Depends on the gun. With a Series 80 1911 there is no benefit that I know of to carrying half-cocked, unless you're the guy attacking the guy with a half-cocked pistol. And of course with many guns this isn't even an option. Careful now. Glocks and XD's both have safeties. Multiple in fact. They just aren't of the "click on and off" variety.

Wow. And they did get some nice ones too. Hopefully they'll be getting three squares and a cot real soon.
