  1. Yea, unfortunately taking a punch has very little to do with working out. There's a technique there and it has nothing to do with tensing up your ab muscles.
  2. He'll be the one with the t shirt that says "I'm the good guy." Robert
  3. The simple answer is don't get an ereader for games. The screens are made specifically to read on them so they are easy on your eyes, unlike a computer screen. If she wants something to play games on there are tons of options from netbooks, to the iPad, to the Droid powered iPad competitors, to the iPod touch, etc. But ereaders are pretty specialized devices that are pretty darn good at doing their one little thing.
  4. Good point. On the severe end 2nd degree can look like this. Third degree burns extend all the way into the layers beneath the dermis so it is an accurate representation of what might have been. Either way, if it could possibly turn LngRngShtr's 6 weeks into 1-2 weeks, it's a no brainer.
  5. I like the one on the right how it is set up, but I think with different grips I would go with the one on the left.
  6. Greg, the reality is that the what-if's you are proposing are by far the exception. And you are assuming that getting involved means coming in with guns at the ready. Most of the time a guy that's tough enough to be beating the hell out of his wife is going to tuck tail and run as soon as you yell, "Hey!" Then the situations over, the beating stops, and everybody goes home alive. If he's an LEO of some form or fashion he will be informing you rather quickly. If they're filming the next James Bond flick and you fail to notice the 200 crew members standing around with microphones, lights, cameras, and other assorted gear, you don't need to be carrying because you're blind. Either way, just watching a woman get beat because what MIGHT happen is kind of a weak argument against stepping in. I would certainly hope that should my wife find herself on the receiving end of such a beating that I wouldn't have to explain to my children that "Mommy won't be coming home because a parking lot full of people stood by and watched it happened, but it's OK because if they had intervened there is a chance, however slight, that they could have some day ended up in a court room. They all did the right thing." No. No they didn't.
  7. Here's a video that shows pretty much what I'm talking about. It works so well I actually demonstrate by NOT gripping the slide and just kind of slapping it with my palm and fingers as I thrust forward to show how the thrust with your shooting hand is the part that really seals the deal.
  8. I'm not sure of the stature or physical limitations your wife may or may not have, but if she is relatively able bodied she might just need to work on technique. What I suggest to those that have problems is to avoid gripping the slide and attempting to rack the slide. Instead use friction and in one movement thrust the gun forward and the slide to the rear, basically pushing one hand against the other. You really barely have to touch the slide if you work on this. I say barely but it is indeed relative. You certainly don't need anything near a death grip on it though.
  9. As long as you're not firing in the direction of a residence I really don't see the problem. Not everybody has 10,000 acres at their disposal for hunting so sometimes it is necessary to be in relative proximity to a dwelling.
  10. I would just walk away. We have precious little time here on this rock and I am not going to be dedicating much of it to arguing with morons. If that means "she wins," so be it. She only wins by forfeit - because I refuse to play the game - not by strength of her argument. 10 minutes later I won't even remember what she looks like and she'll probably still be fuming at me for exercising my God-given and Constitutionally protected freedoms. If that's a win, then I'll take a loss every day, and twice on Sunday.
  11. Just to be clear, the religious debate was only ever about embryonic stem cell research. Christian objections to this are obvious and there is ample data to show that embryonic stem cells show less promise than many other types. My understanding, with the usual caveat that I'm neither a medical professional and I didn't stay at a Holiday Inn Express last night, is that it is a new form of skin graft that just replaces the Petri dish technique. So instead of waiting for a week or more for a small patch to grow in a dish, they use the cells directly on the burn and let the human body be the Petri dish, if you will. While my understanding may be way off, the implications are still fascinating. I wonder if any of our medical community members here might have heard of this and could add some more information. I for one think it's amazing. The amount of suffering that it could eliminate just can't be measured. I hope we see this technology in widespread use very soon, assuming of course that it turns out to be as great as it sounds. Or even half as great for that matter.
  12. I don't think any of those who say they would get involved advocate running into a situation blindly with guns ablazin', hottin' and hollerin' and kickin' up dust. But you can certainly go to the aid of the woman and figure out what's going on. And carrying gives you an extra tool to use if necessary in the defense of life - yours, hers, whatever. But to sit there and watch a woman get beat to the ground then tazed and later find out she was killed by her jilted lover and I might have been able to stop it? I'd have a hard time looking at myself in the mirror if that ever happened.
  13. They have already started brother. The left lambasted him after his speech at CPAC.
  14. This is amazing. I have never had a severe burn, but the minor ones I have had have hurt like the bejeezus. I can't even imagine the pain of severe 2nd and 3rd degree burns. If this is as good as it sounds it could change lives literally overnight.
  15. I'm afraid I would err on the side of helping the woman. If a man in a mask knocks a woman down and then hits her with a stun gun he's up to no good. No way could I stand there and watch it happen.
  16. So far he's got my vote. From what I've heard of him on the radio, plus him taking Clinton to task about health care 20 years ago make me like him. Plus, liberals HATE him. If ever there was an endorsement for someone, that's it.
  17. Work to live. Don't live to work. You're going to give yourself a premature heat attack.
  18. I would like to add a suggestion that you take a couple of firearms related courses. Get yourself more familiar with guns and you will be able to feel more comfortable around them and feel more comfortable with your son around them. Or at the very least have someone you know and trust give you an introduction to their safe handling and operation.
  19. Woman Rescues 90-Year-Old From Sinking Car - Fox News Video - FoxNews.com Video from Fox News. Very impressive.
  20. I hope I ending up eating crow on this one, but I don't think it will pass with all those provisions in there. The one that really caught my attention is the one overriding local park bans. Many of the Congressmen will have locales within their district that have enacted bans and I just don't see the political advantage in telling them all to go jump in a lake. Like I said, I hope I'm wrong, but...
  21. Here's to an uneventful surgery, speedy recovery, and success with Angry Birds.
  22. From what I have seen he does some pretty good work. I have been meaning to get him to make me an IWB for my Kimber.
  23. OH NO HE DIDN'T! That's it, the gloves come off now Whippersnapper. Did Medicare pay for the upgrade too?
  24. That won't be a problem. As soon as his wife gets it out of her purse he'll show you. Man, I think I just shed a tear. Just kidding of course. It's all in good fun.
  25. I don't have experience, but I would be interested in participating if it matches my schedule.
