  1. Hey Jonathan, welcome to the forum. I can't help with your questions as I don't yet have an 870, but I'm sure the answer will be along shortly. Good luck.
  2. Maybe, maybe not. Obviously self defense situations are going to be incredibly dynamic and your best judgment is all you have. My assumption was that the OP meant you surprised the guy and he made an obvious move to high tail it out of there. In that case my original statement stands. I found what the law says: In other words if you shoot someone you better not say anything about them retreating because then it would be very difficult to defend your actions, specifically that you believed that "the force is immediately necessary to protect against the other's use or attempted use of unlawful force."
  3. I don't know the legal answer but I sure as heck wouldn't shoot a man in the back regardless of where he is. I think the possibility of it being ruled an unjustified shooting is just too high. Why take the chance?
  4. It's a spectacular pic. Motion shots are always awesome when you catch them. Don't take this personally Howler, but are all those pics untouched? They are very nice. I was just wondering if you're that good or if you sharpened them a bit through software.
  5. I have never seen anything that contradicts these statements. I have seen video of cops fighting for their lives who have emptied their guns at perps less than 5 feet away and missed every shot. Of course I have seen excellent shots from much greater distances as well. You can only train as well as you can and hope that it works out for you really.
  6. Welcome. Keep an eye out for group shoots on here. They are always a lot of fun with a lot of cool hardware that you can usually get your paws on.
  7. One of my favorite verses in songdom: I'm goin' to the country Baby do you wanna go? Cuz if you can't make it baby Your sister Lucille said she wanna go... And I sure would take her. Classic! Red House by Jimi Hendrix anyone? In The Air Tonight - another great one.
  8. Well that sucks, but it could have been worse as you know. Here's to an uneventful insurance claim.
  9. The cop who shot himself ended up grabbing the trigger and shooting himself. it didn't hit the ground. If it had it certainly would NOT have fired. I have tested this with an empty pistol by slamming it on the ground. Me too. A trick I learned as a young soccer player.
  10. Me too. And my next one will very likely be there as well. I'd say about a 99% chance.
  11. Like Dave above me, there are many. But a few that pop into my head pretty quickly are: Radar Love - Golden Earring Fuel - Metallica (Or the entire "Master Of Puppets" album) Pretty much anything by The Black Keys (If you like the blues and aren't familiar with them, get familiar) Life By The Drop - Stevie Ray Vaughan 46 and 2 - Tool Aenema - Tool Most of the other stuff by Tool That's it for now. A lot depends on mood. And poker games require a special playlist.
  12. If she finished her Master's with a 4.0 she could probably not even take the class and guess well enough to pass the test. It's really written for the lowest common denominator among us and is intentionally very easy to pass. It's so simple that if I ever met anyone that failed it I'm afraid I would have to point and laugh. It's that easy.
  13. I feel for all involved. I know grandpa is going to be beating himself up for a long, long time. RIP little Ty-Rion.
  14. So basically he's saying we shouldn't need a permit to carry? Well, I must say I agree with that. Of course it doesn't change my opinion of him. And I doubt he will be able to argue a strong enough case to win, but I was wrong once before. At least I think I was.
  15. This is where I must claim a certain amount of ignorance. It was my understanding that Lenny's lawsuits were to get back his permit, sue against the Radnor rangers for detaining him, and against the city of Belle Meade for detaining him. Is there something else about which I am not aware that should he win will result in more freedom for me? Not a sarcastic question, I honestly don't know.
  16. Vontar beat me to posting the videos. I got first hand advice from a police officer to state very, very briefly that you were afraid for your life and you would like an ambulance. As soon as you request an ambulance the questioning stops. That gives you time to calm down, think about what happened, get rid of diarrhea of the mouth, and contact a lawyer. You may also have suffered some unseen damage due to the stress of the situation and it would suck to fall over dead in the interview room at the local PD. I can tell you this: I will NEVER go into an interview room without a lawyer. If you do then you will likely end up as an example of the old saying that man who represents himself has a fool for a client.
  17. That's not why I bash him. I bash him because to get your point across it is not necessary to go looking for confrontations with the police. He has done it on more than one occasion and rather than own up to the fact that he was trying to get a rise out of police while performing a technically perfectly legal activity, he tries to feign surprise. He's not honest about his motivations and denies that he was trying to be provocative. He gives you and me a bad name among both anti-gunners and those who hadn't really decided. So call me a "fanboi" if you like. But the simple fact is I recognize an idiot when I see one.
  18. My guess they would have been if Lenny hadn't done things to get himself banned from just about every gun forum on the Internet. He is known nationwide among responsible gun owners as a kook. If he wins I'll enjoy the benefits, but I'll still think he's a kook.
  19. Welcome. Good to see more and more ladies getting their permits and carrying.
  20. Good response. It seems you thought it through quite well. I would also add that other than the shootings in Tuscon last month mass shootings have traditionally ended in one of two ways: the shooter committing suicide or by someone with a gun. Never has a shooter been stopped by a helpless victim cowering underneath a desk or table. Also, the Tuscon shooting was the first mass shooting in the nation that happened outside of a gun-free zone.
  21. No a fence take kin. I was trying to be funny.
  22. Exactly, since he's never done anything that puts gun owners in a bad light in the eyes of our legislators, who as we all know full well only do what is in the best interest of their minions...er I mean constituents. I'll drink to that. And if it doesn't turn out that way at least I'll be drunk.
  23. Yea, but some Miss Steaks are not fore give a bull.
  24. There's still a HUGE difference in the two scenarios. In Carter's example a dude who was getting beat up successfully escapes and then draws a gun. He is now defending himself and it is blatantly obvious that he doesn't need your help. In the original scenario there is an unconscious woman on the ground with a man in a mask standing over her with a taser. There is a very small chance that she doesn't need your help so you call the police who will be there in somewhere between 6 and 30 minutes in most cases and give them a good eye-witness description, disregarding the fact that eye-witness descriptions are notoriously unreliable. Maybe you have excellent vision and got the license plate number, but I doubt it because you would have to get close enough to put yourself in possible danger, so it's not likely. I'm sure everything will turn out fine though.
