  1. Hey guys, the Brady Campaign called. They want their completely unsupported arguments back. The very last thing we need as a gun-owning, freedom-loving, Constitutionally-minded community is people trying to talk others out of carrying regardless of their method. Especially when the only support for it amount to personal opinion and anecdotes. Only thing better would be OC a Glock vs. CC a 1911 thread! To the OP, I kinda like the bi-fold/tri-fold business card idea. Gives plenty of space and is easy to carry. And I agree with the posts against getting too "preachy." Give them a few quick, easily supportable facts, a couple of relevant links, maybe even your e-mail address (or one you keep just for this purpose) if they want to bounce a question off you.
  2. Windows is the reason I switched focus to networking. Even when managing networks on a global scale my life is so much more hassle free.
  3. If it's legal for you to own it, I don't see a problem printing it.
  4. "And then I told Barry, 'What do I care? It ain't my money!'"
  5. Wish I read this before I posted. I may have double posted. Feaux pas!
  6. I don't know why. I'm sure they think he's the bee knees too.
  7. I'll bet my work desk wasn't made by craftsmen, period.
  8. That took some major cajones. You should be proud. I'll take the hard, dangerous right over the easy, safe wrong every day of the week and twice on Sunday. Stepping in once the girl was on the ground is the right thing to do regardless of who started it and over what. Courage is both doing what's right when nobody is watching and doing what's right knowing it could turn out worse for you than anyone else.
  9. The desk is indeed priceless. And as we all know contains hidden maps to a treasure...oh wait, that was just a movie. But it was built in a time when craftsmanship meant something and quality was not an option but a requirement. My guess is Fred Astaire could tap dance across that thing and you'd never know it. So I doubt some rubber soled shoes are going to harm it. The question of manners is up to you. I personally see nothing wrong with feet on the desk. I put my feet on my desk at work just about every day.
  10. You know how much time I spend maintaining my Mac? None. Zero. Zip. Zilch. Nichts. Nada. You know why? Because it works. It works every time I turn it on and it works the entire time I use it without fail or complaint. I have never had a PC in my almost 30 years of having computers in my home, that even came close. I wish I hadn't waited so long to get one, especially knowing years ago how much better they are. I have been a computer repair tech, a Windows system administrator, a network admin, I have done design for national and global networks, so I'm not just talking out my fourth point of contact. Windows sucks. That's all there is to it. They used to have a saying in the motorcycle world (which is not so accurate today): "Harley: Making mechanics out of motorcyclists for 100 years." While today's Harley may not fit that description, today's Windows certainly does. "Windows: Making computer repair techs out of users for 30 years."
  11. The V45 may be wrapped in a cruiseresque package, but it was so much more. Kinda like the Cadillac CTS-V Wagon is much more than a station wagon. The Magnas were some sweet bikes.
  12. Mac is definitely not worth the extra money. Unless of course you like: Better hardware More stable operating system Much better graphics More dependable accessories Far superior ease of use Fewer driver issues Waaaaaay fewer system crashes Blue screen of what? Not needing to buy a new one every year or two Being able to run Windoze in a VM faster and more reliably than on PC hardware The power of a *Nix command line Better audio performance Not running virus software Other than all that, they really stink on ice. I have been hating my Mac Pro for about two years now. I'll probably hate it for at least two more before I buy another one. My daughter will likely be detesting a Macbook Pro next year when she leaves for college.
  13. True. Obama has enough negative baggage on his own without the need to resort to inventing stuff.
  14. If you're going to do much interstate riding I would recommend nothing smaller than an 1100cc bike. You want something that can get out of its own way if it has to and an 800cc bike is just barely going to be able to that. But of course that may be a budget buster depending on what you can find. Just because your bike will run circles around others doesn't mean you have to drive it that way. With what I said above in mind, a good small "throw away" starter bike is not a half bad idea. They are cheap to begin with and tend to retain their value because there's not a lot to lose to begin with. Whatever you buy, buy used and get someone to go with you that can take it for a test drive. Buying a cheap bike to start with means less remorse when you drop it. Notice I didn't say if! Finally, while the Sportster and its copies may be nice to look at, especially with all the chrome, make sure you know what you want to get out of a motorcycle before settling on a particular style or brand. If you want to eventually really rock the corners, cruisers stink on ice. Cruisers also tend to be short on features and their suspension is usually bottom of the line. If you're more of an around town or just lay back and relax type, cruisers may be for you. If you think you might take your bike on a weekend trip, stay the heck away from sport bikes and cruisers. There are lots of great touring bikes out there made by every manufacturer. I like corners and long trips so I got a mutt, a sport touring bike. I can take a Corvette in a race and ride for hours on the same bike while packing clothes and a passenger. Whatever you end up with, ride safe and treat cars like they are infected with the plague. Stay away from them and let them do all the stupid things they want.
  15. Don't hate the player, hate the game.
  16. Maybe not. But this time around I am voting for who I think is the best candidate and nobody else. Me too. I honestly don't think any of them are any better, if they are even as good, as McCain. The Republicans put up a pretty sorry lot this time around, Ron Paul excluded. Of course when you get right down to it, there may be an R next to his name, but he's a Libertarian through and through.
  17. I was at work in Clarksville, across the street from the restoration of the historic courthouse after the tornado damage. Small world, huh? I worked for the Montgomery County Information Systems at the time and installed the network there and in many of the county buildings. I was on my way up 2nd Street going to work when my wife called and told me about the first plane. Like many of you I thought how strange it was that a plane would hit such a large building. Then the second plane hit and I knew what we all knew - that terrorists had just successfully attacked us on our own soil. And like most of you I still get choked up when I see the events recounted on TV today.
  18. Ron Paul will get my write-in because he has no chance getting the Republican nomination. I know he will lose but I'm tired of the "lesser of two evils" voting.
  19. That's a good question. I would probably do something belligerent and ask them if they had sex toys in their home and demand that they answer. Seriously though, I would just tell them what you have in your home, whether it's guns, drugs, nuclear weapons, is none of their business until they produce a warrant. What? They're not law enforcement? Oh, sucks to be them, doesn't it? By the way, kudos to your son. He is the man!
  20. We are moving the right direction in gun rights. We have more rights recognized today than we did just a few short years ago, not only in Tennessee but nationwide. The two cases that will shape future legislation, the so-called Heller and McDonald cases have laid the foundation that I am sure will lead to right to carry laws nationwide, even in Illinois. I really don't see where we are losing rights. We are however gaining back rights that never should have been lost in the first place.
