  1. If I'm not mistaken the age to carry is 14 in Alaska. So where is the problem there?
  2. That's because Tennessee's laws are an infringement on your rights as well. They may not be as bad as D.C. but that doesn't mean they're good either.
  3. Some people know both and still choose the 1911 over the Glock. And JMB WAS supernatural and to be worshipped. How many other gun designs that are over 100 years old are still the yardstick by which others are measured? JMB designed more than one. The same M2 (basically) that was shooting down Luftwaffe fighters is still punching big ugly holes in Taliban fighters today. Pretty impressive if you ask me. (I know the M2 isn't yet 100 but it's getting closer) But there's nothing wrong with Glock. It's durable, reliable, easy to maintain. I would argue that the 1911 has many more parts available and simply because they've been around so long they've sold more and therefore parts are actually more readily available. And in a true SHTF scenario you won't be ordering parts. You'll be getting them wherever you can find them. So the fact that Brownell's has a full warehouse will mean little to you unless you happen to live within very close proximity to it. And the 1911 is the state gun of Utah. And Utah scored a zero on Brady's list. I'm not sure what that means but it has to have some significance.
  4. I was going to bring that up. I hope the city council in Clarksville tells them to pound sand.
  5. Yea, we already knew that, didn't we?
  6. Same here. It seems he kind of pigeonholed himself into a limited clientele with a limited and high priced inventory though. Of course this crappy economy probably didn't help any either.
  7. My first car was a beaut! 1978 Plymouth Volare. Hadn't seen water outside of rain in years and the paint was spiderwebbed from front to back. The inline 6 wouldn't idle so you had to put it in neutral or park at stop lights. Well, it would idle, but only after it overheated and you turned it off. It would idle for about 15 minutes with the key off and out of it. The back floor had a piece of plywood over the 12" hole. The horn cover was gone and the horn wires would spark on the metal of the steering wheel. You could take the top of the dash off and set in your lap to write checks (remember those?). Every inch of the engine compartment was covered with oil and driving on the interstate meant waiting for it to cool down so you could put water in it again. It once went so long with a passenger's side windshield wiper there was a groove worn into the glass from the wiper arm. It came with carpet but I don't think there was a bit of it left when I got it. To be fair it did get me to Florida and back once or twice, and back to Florida again before it finally bit the dust. It even served as my home for a short time. I don't miss that POS one bit.
  8. I guess they shouldn't have made them so shiny. These guys thought they really were toys.
  9. I'm sorry to hear that Reed. That is a tragedy but you and his family can be proud that he gave his life to save another. I don't know if you could ask for a better legacy. RIP indeed.
  10. Yes, new shooters need to show up a little earlier to receive the infamous new shooter's briefing. Don't forget your eyes and ears and IDPA legal holster. I don't think a classifier will have a side match. But being your first you'll have plenty of chances to screw up.
  11. I think OSR makes a much better case. I believe the guy was unhappy with shipping damages and apparently just getting something for nothing was not good enough. User banned, thread locked but not deleted so OSR's side of the story will remain visible for those who are interested.
  12. I don't see any reason Super Bowl Sunday should be any different than any other day, so I'm with you.
  13. If John Moses Browning was alive today he would approve. Browning was a master at making cutting edge weapons that just worked and would have no problem using modern materials to make his guns.
  14. I can think of about 535 people that desperately need to enroll in this course.
  15. I'm obviously not a TSA fan either. There's a simple way to correct all this B.S. Remember when you used to pick smoking or non-smoking when you flew? Let us pick armed or unarmed. If you pick armed you fly with others who did so as well. If you pick unarmed you take your chances.
  16. I might be missing something here...hell, I almost undoubtedly am. But it seems like the biggest gripe people in general, and here included, have about the TSA is the loss of our rights and invasion of privacy when we board a flight. If so, how could you possibly support a more Isreal-like system? Hell yes it's effective, because they'll bitch slap you back into the stone age if you try and fight it. They are far more invasive and couldn't care less about your "rights." They are the TSA on high grade crack. The only real difference between the TSA and the Isrealis is that the Isrealis are good at what they do. The Isrealis also live in a world where races don't mix like they do here. Yes there are Arabs in Isreal but it's not the norm. When you travel in the Middle East you either go through Isreal or you go through Arab countries. If you enjoy being harassed and accused of all sorts of unsavory things then by all means do both. And their harassment is limited to Arabs either. Some of them don't particularly like Americans and will confiscate your belongings for "further inspection" and you won't get them back until they feel ready to give them back to you. I don't think a person on this board wouldn't pitch a fit like they've never seen before if our TSA trained up to Isreali standards and started with that kind of B.S. Yea, the Isreali world is different than ours. And I wouldn't trade with them in a million years. I'll take an incompetent bureaucracy over a competent one any day. Remember, "Those that would trade a little freedom for a little security deserve neither."
  17. Not me. I'd just thank her heartily for supporting a 2nd Amendment loving, gun-toting business and then laugh as she headed for the door like her head was on fire and her ass was catchin'. If you're a total libertarian, and I am, why don't you support her right to kick someone out just because she doesn't like his beliefs? I believe if you own a business you have the right to tell someone to pound sand if you don't like the color of their socks. Of course I also believe they should live with the consequences when their business begins to suffer. No bailouts from me, thank you.
  18. Did I miss it or did he not put a single thing in there supporting anything about a body count? I guess a sensational headline is all it takes to be called a journalist at the Tennessean.
  19. The XD might not have as many choices for aftermarket parts, but the ones they have are second to none. Both Springer Precision and Powder River Precision make replacement parts for just about anything that needs to be done to make your XD/XDm shoot as sweet as you want. There are a few others that make some accessories like grip tape and if you want a recoil spring maybe you'd prefer Wolff. Neither is a gun you couldn't put your life or the lives of your loved ones in with complete confidence.
  20. Nobody's arguing against the free market here. Including the right of consumers to take their money elsewhere. Capitalism is a fine two-way street.
