I don't think it is technically correct. Most who commit violence with guns have a history of violence. So actually violence is more likely a precursor to their (illegal) gun ownership.

Indeed. If you haven't been out west and seen the Rockies you are really missing out. Colorado, Utah, Wyoming, Montana: you just can't beat them for sheer rugged mountain beauty. The thing I like best about the west is when you mention humidity they say, "Humidi-what?" But I do love Tennessee. It's a great place to live and to raise a family.

My daughter just graduated high school in May and she has had a cell phone for several years and taken it to school. She only got in trouble once and that wasn't for using it but leaving it on and it vibrated during class while in her backpack. My feeling about this is the same as about guns in parking lots: It's none of their business. And as far as the school confiscating property, they can do that as soon as they pay for it, provided I have offered it up for sale. Until then they can keep their damn dirty hands off of property that I pay for.

DaddyO, I'll bet you dollars to donuts that there were people thinking that same thing in '94 when the "Assault weapons" ban went into effect. It is never a bad idea to let your elected officials know what you think about issue important to you. You know your opponents are.

Dick's must be planning to get out of the firearms/ammo business judging by their prices, the stores that have done away with the gun counter, and their (lack of) customer service lately. Maybe phase 1 is to piss off all of their gun owning/buying customers.

I'm just glad this was handled professionally and peacefully by the officers involved. Actually I think both the officers and the permit holders came out of this looking pretty good.
