I tried Dickel Rye last night and really enjoyed it. I like the smooth wheaters too, but these Rye whiskies that have come back on the scene the past few years are really tasty...in a bold, spicy kinda way. FWIW, anytime you see a rye whisky that is 95% rye, it came from LDI (Lawrenceburg Distillers Indiana). So High West, Templeton, Bulleit and Dickel is all the same juice, though it gets aged differently and Dickel still puts theirs through the sugar maple charcoal chill filtering process unique to TN whiskies. Australia! If I here Australia one more time......
JR2ATN replied to Will Carry's topic in 2A Legislation and Politics
Here is a good background article on how gun control in Australia turned to confiscation... http://www.wnd.com/2013/02/catastrophe-when-americas-twin-gave-up-guns/ -
Homework Promotes Anti-American View of World War Two

FWIW, the best book I've read on the topic is Downfall: The End of the Imperial Japanese Empire by Richard B. Frank http://amzn.to/ZKc4pI He has another book about Guadalcanal which is also outstanding. -
Giffords 'furious' about Senate gun control votes
JR2ATN replied to Beretta Bob's topic in 2A Legislation and Politics
The WSJ had a nice point by point rebuttal to an article of hers that was in the NY Times... Gabby Giffords Poisons the Well http://online.wsj.com/article/SB10001424127887324493704578430771447679726.html -
We all know most hardcore right-wing Tea-partiers come from Chechnya. Wasn't O or someone in his administration sayin' this might be about tax day...what a joke they are.

CCRKBA endorsement of Manchin-Toomey?
JR2ATN replied to Slasher's topic in 2A Legislation and Politics
Well, I hope Gottleib learned a lesson. I watched the video where he was gloating how they "snookered" the other side by transforming the bill into a pro-gun bill, and now it seems the only one snookered was him. -
The “Pro-Gun†Provisions of Manchin-Toomey are Actually a Bonanza of Gun Control http://www.volokh.com/2013/04/15/the-pro-gun-provisions-of-manchin-toomey-are-actually-a-bonanza-of-gun-control/ Problems II http://gunowners.org/congress04112013.htm Unsurprisingly, the devil's always in the details.

Tennessee Senators vote FOR Cloture on Gun Bill
JR2ATN replied to Worriedman's topic in 2A Legislation and Politics
Even though they voted for cloture, at least it seems they will vote against the final bill.... According to the following article the voting will begin Wednesday at 4pm Eastern. Keep up the pressure!! It's gonna be a close one, Biden sez they're two votes short right now. No tellin' what kind of arm twisting or favors are going on behind closed doors. Tennessee Senators vote FOR Cloture on Gun Bill
JR2ATN replied to Worriedman's topic in 2A Legislation and Politics
A couple of days ago Senator Manchin said this: “Nobody here in this great Capitol of ours with a good conscience could sit by and not try to prevent a day like that from happening again,†said Manchin of the Newtown shooting. “I think that’s what we’re doing.†http://www.politico.com/story/2013/04/gun-background-checks-deal-89856.html Therein lies my biggest concern with this bill. There are those who say let 'em have this small victory and then they'll leave us alone......right. When the next tragedy occurs, and it will, then they'll say..."if we had only done a little bit more....we just didn't go far enough!" Only a practiced politician could state with a straight face that a bill expanding background checks would have prevented Newtown, when Adam Lanza's mother passed a background check to buy the firearms he stole to commit those murders. And of course we have a largely dishonest media spouting lies and half-truths to steer a lazy, brain-dead populace too disinterested to do their own homework on an issue, lest they miss whatever mind-numbing reality TV happens to be on. -
Bill Oreilly arguing for registration
JR2ATN replied to superduty's topic in 2A Legislation and Politics
I just about guffawed when he said, (and I forget his exact words, but it was something like...) We can't lock up lunatics because we don't want to live in a totalitarian society/police state, but we should have gun registration and 'stop and frisk'.....HELLO!?!? -
Alexander is up for reelection next year. Nashville Tea Party has an online petition demanding an open primary here: http://nashvilleteaparty.com/sign-the-petition-today-tn-deserves-a-conservative-alternative-to-lamar-alexander/ FWIW, I plan to start writing the TN GOP as well and demand we allow/find some true conservatives to run for office. http://www.tngop.org/

Savage Gulf Hike to Stone Door then make a loop out of Big Creek Gulf and Big Creek Rim trails, staying overnight at Alum Gap. The climb up to Alum Gap is a bit of a grind but it's a nice hike overall. About 5 miles from parking lot for Stone Door to Alum Gap via BCG trail and about 4 miles back from Alum Gap via BCR trail. http://www.friendsofscsra.org/downloads/savage-gulf-trail-map-2008-september.pdf the short side trip to Ranger Falls off of BCG trail is worthwhile.

I got a new K9 last November. I really like the size and the trigger is fantastic, just buttery smooth. I actually just shot it for the first time this past weekend. I had a problem with the magazines dropping prematurely, and I was NOT hitting the mag release. Kahr is sending me replacement parts for the mag release assembly. I had read of a few others having the same problem and they put in a stronger spring (one for a Colt 1911 mag release). It came with soft acrylic grips which aren't bad, but I like these Pau Ferro replacements, not just good looking but thicker too, which I prefer. I have not carried it so I don't know if the mags will lose rounds. Some folks replace the mag springs with Wolff +5% springs to try to fix the issue.

Personally, I like CMMG's approach to this issue....https://www.facebook.com/CMMGInc

You have to be careful when choosing an Enfield. IMO the British and their allies tended to keep their long arms in service longer than the U.S. and they show it. BDL is a good place to check for a nice one. http://www.bdlltd.com/Military_Firearms_Curio_%26_Relic.html and now for some eye candy...a Savage

Joe Biden's point-blank advice: Buy a Shotgun
JR2ATN replied to TSprint1's topic in 2A Legislation and Politics
Wait a second. A month ago AR's were easy to use, chillingly efficient laser-death ray killing machines. Now they're hard to use and you can't hit the broad side of a barn? My how the argument shifts when it looks like an AWB won't make it through Congress. -

http://soldiersystems.net/2013/02/08/larue-tactical-issues-new-sales-policy-for-state-and-local-agencies/ I wish others in the firearms industry would follow suit. While their statement is couched in not wanting to run afoul of the law, it seems like they're taking a stand. What's good for the goose is good for the gander!

What we need at these events are numbers, and in that respect today was lackluster. I still don't know where today's event germinated. I read about it here and caught Hickok's video about it. Just a little brainstorming for future events...maybe these things have happened and I just didn't notice: Set up a fund for donations to cover cost of flyers, gunshow fees, etc. Print flyers and ask gunshops to put one up in their window and have a stack of smaller takeaways on their counters. Go to gunshows and pass out flyers. Arrange for a public figure to speak (and announce it on the flyer and online). Average Joe speakers are great but I think a public figure or two in the mix (state rep., Hickok, someone from Barrett, etc.) would draw more people. Swag: Molon Labe and/or Don't Tread on Me stickers or the like to pass out. Everybody likes free stuff. That's just off the top of my head, feel free to comment or add on.

It was COLD! When the talked leaned militia and birther the speakers started to lose me. I'm agnostic on whether O was born here or not and if he wasn't it seems there's little that can or will be done about it, but I don't think it helps our cause with fence-sitters. Overall though it was okay.....a bullhorn would've been nice. Turnout was about what I expected given that it was a weekday, cold, and poorly organized from the start.
