  1. Just in case anyone is interested.... http://parallaxscurioandrelicfirearmsforums.yuku.com/forums/82/t/Swedish-Firearms-Forum.html
  2. I actually got to see (and shoot) that pony. Great gun! I hit a 2 inch circle at about 15 yards with the first shot. Sigh.... Well, I've always been a big fan of getting ladies to learn to shoot, and carry. I have several pistols in the cabinet that are there just in case some gal comes over and needs to learn. So, Hustle, what you need is a dad or grand-dad type you can twist around your little finger and winkle guns from them that way
  3. Guns I bought for my wife: S&W Target Masterpiece .38, Taurus .38, CZ-452 youth, 1892 winchester clone in .38, S&W 32 lemon squeezer, and a .38 derringer. Guns I bought my wife without realizing it: M1 carbine, Colt woodsman, Colt double barrel 12 ga., Broomhandle mauser. Some guys sneak guns into the house to keep their wife from getting mad, I do it to keep her from snagging my toys.
  4. Snow in Las Vegas, snow in Malibu...
  5. Just read an online article, they're now trying to blame the last ice age on 'greenhouse gasses'. Does anyone other than simpletons and politicians actually credit this nonsense? At what point do we beat them with the clue stick - or even better, the clue shotgun? Global warming computer models can't predict the last 10 years, much less the next 50. Meanwhile, the correlation between sunspots and global temps shows a 92 to 98% match - the more sunspots, the warmer it is. Astronomy used to be a hobby of mine, I still keep tabs of some things. 2008 had an abnormally low number of sunspots. I figured last summer it'd be a chilly winter and I stupidly figured that would shut the global warming idiots up. Foolish me. Anyone interested in looking into sunspots vs weather should google the maunder minimum, and solar weather. Gonna be a long, cold winter.
  6. Pepe Le Pew has to go. Our dog has been sprayed twice now, my wife wants to shoot a skunk. She'll be using a scoped youth-model CZ-452, hitting won't be a problem. Any suggestions for bait?
  7. New York, New Jersey, Massachusetts, Ohio and Wisconsin governers are asking for 1 trillion dollars, and the new congress is willing to give it to them. What sort of place will our country be 5 years from now? When the feds control production, banks, state budgets, real estate - in what way will we be a free nation?
  8. Five easy hours in my ships' helo control, then stood watch from midnight until 8 a.m.

    SICK!!!

    That's some impressive photography, padre.
  10. I don't, but might could get some (depends on how busy my wife is). It looks like a german K98, exactly - but looks almost brand new. 99.9% bluing, no dirt or dents on the wood. 8mm mauser ammo was corrosive - the bore is perfect. Not an arsenal refinish, literally an un-issued, 60 year old rifle. More "stuff from the closet" coming up in the next few weeks; a FAL, a couple of cherry M1A's from the mid-90's (all GI parts except the receiver), a few other odds and ends.
  11. Sorry, Moped, the Enfield and the Swede are spoken for, it looks like. The Yugo mauser was never issued, and I've never fired it. I don't know what it is worth in that condition, but guessing 250? What with the Mosins, Enfields, Mausers of several different flavors, and the US rifles, if we all ever get together for a shoot, it ought to be a lot of fun. A regular variety show/history lesson.
  12. Bent bolt Husqvarna (I think - might be a gustav) M38 short rifle, un-bubba'd, with stock disk. Beautiful bore, good wood, overall VG+ to Excellent, $250 or swap/partial swap for older Colt or S&W. Samco still has a few, they are wanting $330 for 'em, link below. Bought mine maybe 15 years ago, have some ammo, some components to go with it if I can find 'em. Put a box through it, cleaned it, put it away, intending to reload for it because of the accuracy potential. Never got off the water long enough to fool with it. Nice, low-recoil, fun to shoot. 6.5x55 is an impressive round. http://www.samcoglobal.com/sm38.html
  13. What, you mean the Brady Bunch is lying!?? Gasp, shock, say it ain't so (yawn).
  14. You may be disappointed. The Garand is a *****cat to shoot. Sweet natured as long as you mind where you put your thumb. If it could cook...
  15. I'm back - my internet connection routes through satellite, then through some undersea fiber cable. Lost the cable due to an undersea quake, they've just managed to get it repaired.... I'm thinning out my milsurp collection when I get home - I have one Mosin (already claimed), a Savage made Lee-Enfield, a swiss mauser, and an unissued/unfired Yugo mauser, all are going to be looking for new homes. A milsurp shoot sounds good; I'll be shooting either a Garand or a carbine.
  16. Okay, Mike... Now, you want to try something has a little oomph to it, I did manage to pick up a 45-70 Springfield trapdoor at that gunshow back in June. Actually, it isn't bad at all. I think the worst thing I can think of in terms of recoil was when a friend of mine slipped some 3" mag buckshot into my coachgun and handed it back to me. That tickled, a bit.
  17. Right now, I'm pierside, in Bahrain. I'm looking at late March for coming home. But yeah, we ought to get together, have dinner somewhere. Guess we're the "been there, done that" club. Just, please - not beets.
  18. As long as we're at the table, whats' for lunch?

    rifle help

Can't help you there - have never owned or fired one. Have 3 K31's. No-drill scope mounts and rather nice walnut sporter stocks are available. Check out the K-31 based swiss sniper rifles - very nice! 5K, though...

    carrying an FN 5 7

Contrary what particular? The PDW concept or origination, the fact that FN's AP ammo can't be sold to civilians, or the part about using a fast 22 (or if you prefer, a lightly turbocharged 25ACP) not being a really good defensive round choice? You aren't gonna hurt my feelings. Most of the 57 boogey boogey can be sourced to the Brady Clowns trying to get it banned as a "cop killer" 4 or 5 years ago. http://www.atf.gov/firearms/firearmstech/fabriquen.htm FN 5.7 (Fabrique Nationale) pistol is a semiautomatic pistol in 5.7 X 28 mm caliber 1/20/05 In response to numerous questions that ATF has received regarding the capabilities of the 5.7 X 28mm cartridge, the following technical information is provided. FTB classified SS196 ammunition as not armor piercing. The FN 5.7 (Fabrique Nationale) pistol is a semiautomatic pistol in 5.7 X 28 mm caliber. Type: Double Action Only or Single Action (in Tactical model). Chambering: 5.7x28mm. Length: 208 mm Barrel length: 122.5 mm Magazine: 20 rounds. The FN 5.7 (Fabrique Nationale) pistol is a semiautomatic pistol in 5.7 X 28 mm caliber approved for importation as a sporting firearm. The classification of all ammunition is governed strictly by the definitions presented in the GCA. Specifically, as defined in 18 U.S.C. Section 921(a)(17)(, the term "armor piercing ammunition" means- a projectile or projectile core which may be used in a handgun and which is constructed entirely (excluding the presence of traces of other substances) from one or a combination of tungsten alloys, steel, iron, brass, bronze, beryllium copper, or depleted uranium; or a full jacketed projectile larger than .22 caliber designed and intended for use in a handgun and whose jacket has a weight of more than 25 percent of the total weight of the projectile. FTB has also examined a 5.7 X 28 mm projectile that FN Herstal has designated the "SS196." The SS196 is loaded with a Hornady 40 grain, jacketed lead bullet. FTB classified SS196 ammunition as not armor piercing ammunition under Federal firearms statutes. According to FNH USA, FN Herstal tested the SS192 ammunition. SS192 ammunition did not penetrate the Level IIIA vests that were tested. FNH USA states that SS196, Hornady V-Max 40 gr. bullets fired from a 4-3/4 inch barrel did not penetrate the Level II vests that were used in testing. FNH USA has informed FTB that SS192 is no longer imported for commercial sale to the United States and that commercial sales of 5.7 X 28mm ammunition are restricted to the SS196 (not armor piercing). FN Herstal 5.7 X 28mm Ammunition SS190 - Armor piercing (AP) SS191 - AP Tracer SS192 - Hollow Point (not AP) SB193 - AP Subsonic SS195 - "Green" - lead free hollow point projectile with copper jacket (not AP) SS196 - Sporting round (Hornady 40 gr. V-max, hollow point lead), (not AP) 10700004 Blank (not classified as ammunition under Federal law) 10700005 Dummy

    rifle help

Yes, the K-31 is .308. The Enfield .303 isn't, actually - it is .311. Not sure about the Mauser, to be honest. The K31 surplus ammo (GP11) is available, about 50 cents a round unless you buy in quantity, and extremely accurate - but difficult to reload - berdan primed. Brass is available, though, as well as commercial ammo (which isn't as accurate as the swiss surplus). One of these days I hope to try some re-loading for it, I'm thinking 175gr BT spitzers... The action is very smooth, very quick. The trigger compares favorably to the trigger on my match M1A. The sights are about the same as the other rifles you mentioned, but a no-drill scope mount is available (and the rifle will definitely take full advantage of a scope).
  22. I would have said "Old enough to be on the design team for dirt Nuff thread hi-jack, I'll leave it to the pro's. When he's ready, he'll let us know...
  23. True. Deerslayer. OTOH, very few badguys are made of steel plate. Energy transferred is a lot more important than total energy. That said, the .45 is in the 'bigger, heavier, but slower" category, meaning more energy will be transferred.

Or simpler, depends.... So which way are you leaning?
  25. Tungsten, I thought we were looking at $300 a month type of thing. Are we talking $300 a year???!!! Heck, I blow that much on porn... err, I mean, ummm... I just read it for the articles, honest! If we're looking at $300/yr, give me a way to pay with a visa, I'll cover the first year.
