You can't buy a handgun out of state...
Mark@Sea replied to mousegunner's topic in Handgun Carry and Self Defense
Yep. Bought a Remington Rand 1911A1 in a shop in Norfolk before my last cruise. The dealer held it in his safe until I returned home, and then shipped to an FFL near my home. Added almost 100 to the price, all told, with the overnight shipping and the transfer fees. If I had wanted (okay, who'm I kidding -- could have afforded) the belt-fed semi .30 browning he had, though, I could have walked out with it that day. -
Hope to see you at a shoot sometime (over by Kingsport). Next one will be in April, I should be home then. Unless Mike.357 will emcee one earlier...

First National Bank of Winchester....

Magic, I have a FAL, and several M1A's. I don't have an HK, but with one exception I find the FAL to be every bit as good as the M1A - the sights aren't nearly as good. Accuracy and function are good, no complaints.

I don't have what I would consider to be a real stockpile of anything... a little of everything, I guess. Really need more .45, though.

Great roundup here http://www.saysuncle.com/archives/2008/09/22/i-would-have-gotten-away-with-it-if-it-wasnt-for-you-meddling-kids/ Short version - false flag front organization funded by the Democratic Leadership Council to provide cover for anti-gun democrat politicians. The board of directors is a who's-who of gun-control lobbyists. AHSA paid people to protest NRA meetings. They wrote an opposition opinion for Heller. Donated to the Brady bunch. Set up a straw purchase with a reporter Ray Schoenke was a paid witness for the complaintants in the suits against firearms manufacturers. Please forward the link to Ralph, and ask him if he'd be interested in some excellent waterfront real-estate opportunities.

No worries. The procedure is simple enough that a gunsmith isn't required. I'm going to be doing it myself when I get home. Never been attacked by a skeet

Yep - we are seeing the creation of a modern slave class (the taxpayer). It'd be interesting to ask what sort of 'shovel ready' projects are suited to "the long term unemployed minorities, women, people who are not necessarily construction workers or high-skilled professionals", but we know, of course, that this isn't about actually building anything, it is about a massive welfare increase. White need not apply. The backlash to this government sponsored racism is going to be.... truly interesting.

Note: SHOT show was just this past weekend... sort of a manufacturers expo. AHSA was not there. Ralphs' problem goes far beyond believing AHSA (who are funded by the Joyce foundation). Google them, lots of information available on them.

do you carry at home...part II
Mark@Sea replied to The Average Joe's topic in Handgun Carry and Self Defense
About 25 years ago, while stationed aboard a ship home-ported in Norfolk, I shared a small apartment with a shipmate. We were both E-4's, thus what we could afford to rent was definitely "wrong side of the tracks". Room-mate answers a knock on the door one evening - the first guy that came through first didn't say a word, just cold-cocked him with a wrench. I had a clear line of sight, standing in the other room, and ducked into the closet to grab a pistol. Maybe had to move three feet. By the time I turned around with the pistol in my hand, the guy was in my face with the wrench cocked back for a strike. After an hour or so (okay, maybe 5 seconds) he and his two buddies decided it wasn't their night and took off, leaving a door with a busted chain, and a groggy room-mate still on the deck. Why didn't I shoot? The pistol (a real POS .380) was broken. It always stovepiped. I'd have gotten the first one, but his buddies would've killed me. I swapped that POS (with full disclosure) for a pump shotgun asap. Do I carry at home? Unless I'm sleeping, drinking or in the shower. Even then there is a shotgun within 15 feet or so. -
Huh. Other people get armies of flying monkeys, Mike is stuck with chipmunks. Where is the justice here? Issue them tiny little ski masks, you wouldn't want them identified....

It'd be really hard to try to convince anyone trying to confiscate guns that I don't have any. You just can't get that kind of velocity from a wrist rocket.
-
Hahahahahahehehehehehe Thunk. Thanks, SunTzu, I needed that.

Oh, definitely need another shotgun. Especially a mean-looking one with a heat-shield and bayonet lug. Heck, if the price is right, I'll take two - if he can find 'em. I'm filling out an order form right now for a couple more CMP carbines. It'll go in the mail next time we hit a port with mail services. Hadn't intended to buy any more, but with the O wanting to ban 'em permanently, figured it'd be a better investment than silver dollars. Sure wish I were home for gunshows.

Ivy, TDR just posted a nice Mossy in the classifieds. Vent rib barrel, but for $225, I could live with an 18" vent rib Thought about it myself, but I just asked Tom at The Gun Depot to see if he can find me another Norchester riot gun.

American Idol - without the talent. Suddenly celebrities who for the last 8 years took every opportunity to denigrate the President are calling for unity. Dissent, just last month the "highest form of patriotism" is now evidence of juvenile behavior at best, treason at worst. Flag waving (well, modified with pictures of the glorious leader) is suddenly popular with the unwashed who've spent the last eight years burning, stomping and defecating on them. People who have no excuse for their self-delusions are claiming that Obama isn't anti-gun, won't work against the interests of the Republic, and isn't really a socialist. People who've spent the last 8 years coming up with "Chimpy Mchitlerburton" and similiar gems are suddenly upset at the thought that anyone might play the same game with their chosen one, and decry the disrespect to the office of the President. Suddenly, the 52 million or so Americans who voted against Obama are the inconsequential lunatic fringe. So, is this how the Jews felt in 1930's National Socialist Germany? There were 7 million of them, there are a lot more of us lunatic fringers - and having seen the results, there is no way I'm turning my guns over to the state. Not, of course, that that would ever happen, right?

Dotsun, I don't think he'll be back. If he does return, I intend to ask him if he still molests children. That seems to be his method of 'debate' - attack without facts. -
No, they can't.

Ralph found what he was looking for. He didn't find what was actually here. He sees what he expects to see, hears what he wants to hear, and doesn't let little things like the facts get in his way. It's a mental illness. It really is that simple. -
I'd bet the first thing will be "outages" in the instant-check system, starting sometime in the next 3-6 months.
