Very helpful! Thanks for the link! Mods, is this sticky-worthy enough?
-
Is it unfired? If so, probably not. Otherwise, yes.
-
That's a pretty Garand! Hey Mike, you see this?
-
Hey, with the money you are saving on that FAL you're worried about an upper? I saw one go on GB and dayum...

In this market, when hundreds of thousands of people have suddenly decided it is time to get a gun, or buy ammo, you're going to see a certain percentage of people pushing for "all the market will bear". The alternative is what, rationing? Price fixing? Yeah, that would be a fair market. In a fair market, you'll get that pistol you want, at a reasonable price - in, say, 9 or 10 months. In a fair market, you'll get a ration book, allowing you to buy maybe 3 boxes of ammo this year. Nate nailed it - the alternative smacks of socialism. I'll take a free market, thanks.

Hey, guys, how about an update? Were the rings set correctly?
-
Well, I ordered some wide-spur 1911 style hammers a few months back, plan on retrofitting 3 of my pistols with 'em. Different strokes, etc...

Hey folks, if you wanted to bring a shottie but can't find any ammo for it, be advised I'll have some 400 rounds of #4 buck on hand. Also bought some buck-n-ball (8 #1 buck and a .68 ball) and some slugs, which may be a bit much for practice.

If you really have a doubt, call winchester-olin and ask 'em. I think it'd be fine, though. 300 grain bullet, about 1800 fps. I have a trapdoor, I'd use it in mine. Yours is a newer rifle than mine. Looks nice - and they are a hoot to shoot!

I need one of these. My wife reported 2 coyotes not 20 feet from our door, and wants me to do something about it when I get home.

I'd buy it in a heartbeat. Not that I care too much for the digi-flage, but its' a hi-power. If you gotta go with a 9mm (recoil sensitive, small hands, ammo compatibility, whatever) then this is the way to go. And you know, the digi-flage could grow on me... although I have found that as senility sets in, I've come to appreciate good wood and nice blueing much more than tactical plastic and bake-on finishes.

Well, Mike, after you adopt one of my Garands, you won't have the scratch for the PP... And you neeeeed a garand. I've got too many mouths to feed as it is.
-
If I can find it, I still have a few hundred rounds of black tip - AP. It'll go right through that plate, no problem.

Daniel, thanks for looking for a model 11 for me. If anyone knows of a Remington model 11 (particularly in 20 gauge) that needs a loving home, PM me, please. Mike, whafur you buy that thing? I have a nice Walther PP that needs a home. For you, special price. I've got, I think, 10 or 20 boxes of 32 ACP ball in the closet, too. Ummm, Garands - If things go as planned, I am going to the South Store before the shoot. I should have 2 or 3 'new' Garands along with the 3 I currently support, in the rack at the April shoot. I'm going to get as much of the Greek ammo as I can afford/carry home.

I still have a few contacts in the competition world... Current price for a match grade build is in the neighborhood of 4K, last I heard. This is from the guy that builds the rifles for the VA state rifle team, and a whole bunch of east coast military match shooters.

You're very welcome. I haven't fired an A5 since I was a kid. While on this cruise, I've bought an A5 from a forum member, and a Model 11 off gunbroker. They aren't quite the same - some parts interchange, some won't - but very close. Friction ring info should be the same. The model 11 was built under license to FN from the A5 patent - interesting story behind that. JMB invented the A5 in 1898. His drawings and 2 sample guns sat at Winchester for 2 years and they did nothing with them. He finally showed up at Winchester, and when they declined to pay him patent royalties he went to their shop and pulled all his drawings and his 2 working guns. Took 'em to Remington, but while he was sitting outside the presidents' office, the guy had a heart attack. So he took it all to FN. Man, did Winchester blow it, or what? Anyway, a couple years after FN started making them, Congress passed import tariffs. JMB convinced FN to license Remington to produce them in the States, thus the model 11 was born. I was initially hesitant about replacing the recoil spring, but the newest model 11 is 60 years old. That spring has been under tension for a long time.

They have some spiders over here where I am right now you have to see to believe. I think they call them camel spiders. If I saw one at home, I'd have to go to Lowes to fix the buckshot holes in the floor. Some pretty good size scorpions, too - a good 6-8 inches long. Not sure I'd want to try stomping them. A local runs a little gift shed (kind of like a gift shop, only not so fancy) and sells 'em framed.

Updated info: The browning manual for the A5 states that the bevel edge of the bronze friction brake always faces the muzzle, and the flat side of the steel friction ring always faces the spring. The only thing that changes between heavy and light loads is the position of the steel friction ring - either between spring and receiver for light loads, or between spring and bronze friction brake for heavy loads. The manual suggests you start in the "heavy" setting, and only move to "light" if the gun does not cycle. The mag tube should have a LIGHT coat of oil (wipe on, wipe off, I guess). The bronze thingy should have a steel compression band around it. Guess this belongs in the gunsmithing forum, too: Parts that should be replaced, available from Brownells, with part # and $. Note, these are A5 12 ga. (not magnum) parts. Stock# Descr. Price 149-005-378 Recoil Spring $13.15 149-005-197 Friction Piece, Bronze $9.99 149-005-205 Friction Ring $4.99 *replace if missing/damaged 149-005-215 Friction Spring $4.99 Neat schematic: http://www.brownells.com/aspx/ns/schematics/schemmfg.aspx?schemid=404&m=2&mn=Browning%c2%ae&model=Auto-5+

Newsflash! The Alabama murderer used a vehicle in carrying out his assaults. Although we are unable to get the Alabama DOT to release any information concerning whether he held a license to operate a vehicle on public streets, we are very concerned that the Tennessee Legislature has also allowed citizens to get licenses to operate vehicles. Many Tennessee licensed vehicle owners have committed vehicle crimes in the past, yet legislators have no plans to change or tighten the requirements for obtaining a license. Seems to me that this makes as much sense as what they printed. Wonder if I could get a job at the CA?

Yeah, I wouldn't mind having that 97 myself. Don't think I'll make it to the auction, though.

Bkelm, I think that someone would be... you. Todd, hope to see you at the shoot.

Very nice. Load 'er up!

What does a SuperX run these days, though? The best part of this project is that it is cheap. Cheaper than some pumps. Buddy of mine has an M3 - gonna see if he'll bring it out for a little practice, and see how my po-boy does against it... Wouldn't it be funny to outshoot his $$$ pride and joy with a 1920's era boomstick? Well, funny to me, anyway....

I am in total Shock and highly upset and still dont believe it!

Sorry, but you can't really tie the tobacco tax to medical coverage for smokers. It is medical coverage for people ("children" up to age of 28) who make up to 85K a year. In other words, it is socialized medicine by another name. That's why Bush vetoed it last year. "Do it for the children" is the hunting cry of the socialist.
