  1. Your call. You're treated as responsible and intelligent until you prove otherwise... Would not recommend unless you have a desig. driver or intend to camp - but as I said, your call.
  2. Trolling for pirates isn't all that fun, believe me. The problem the merchies have is that they aren't allowed to carry serious firepower. A .50 is just the thing for problems like this, but you need at least 2 aboard, and 6 would be better. The problems the Navy has are legion. Too few ships. Helo's don't have the range to respond very far. No spare carriers to put in the area. Deadly force is only authorised if the pirates are shooting at you at the time - if they surrender, they face a few weeks of beans and rice aboard a naval vessel, and are then released. They know this, and don't put up a fight once they're under the guns. Kenya reneged on their agreement to prosecute them, and of course we can't take 'em to Gitmo, that'd be cruel. Our NCA doesn't have the balls to issue the orders needed - shoot on sight. TDR - the pirates are armed. Generally with light weapons, typically an AK per, and one or two RPG's per boat.
  3. Welcome to the board, and hope to see you at the shoot!
  4. Ha. Geez, just gave away an 870 and a pistol.
  5. Hi Chad. Welcome to the forum - check out the East TN shoot in the gatherings forum...
  6. Yep, still the 18th. Gunshow at Meadowview this Saturday.
  7. As long as it is gun stuff and not girlfriends. I get in enough trouble, thanks....
  8. They're in the eaves. I got one with CCI ratshot, but am going with the poison blocks I picked up at Lowes. Pontiac, I know that Mike and CAS are planning on camping, I think that SunTzu might be camping, not sure if Boomhower will make it...
  9. Mike, the dern chipmunks have invaded. Opening volley was fired last night, initial reports from the front are not promising. Will be glad to have your expertise on anti-chipmunk special ops.
  10. Use grease, not oil, on the slide rails. I have some you might like. If you don't have a bore brush, see if you can find a bore snake. Quick and easy bore cleaning.Wipe down the frame and slide with a good light oil. It shoots nice, I was impressed.
  11. Juice cans: not sure. Whatever you want to shoot, I guess. 7.62x39 - I don't know, you want me to get some details? By the way, going through my stuff I found some sks stripper clips and a handful of 7.62x39. Old steel cased surplus stuff... Think I will bring a crate down to the shoot with a bunch of oddball stuff I don't need anymore. Anyone need a brand new plastic stock and forearm for an 870? Kind of fond of the .32 myself. Just sold my Llama to a lady, still have the colt and the PP.
  12. I'm going! Saturday, probably.
  13. Yeah, all those fears of socialism are just right wing nut jobs. In socialist countries, the government owns the heavy industries (like, say, auto manufacturers), banks, hospitals, and so forth. No free-market worries, when the gov't 'regulates' who can borrow, who directs finance, what will be built, price controls, energy, etc. etc. Hey, wait....
  14. Coleman lantern (or lamp - years ago they made table and wall lamps). Coleman stove. No power = no problem. Of course, I could be biased. I collect them - have maybe 300 lanterns.
  15. Jay, would love to have you and your daughter. Hope you can make it!
  16. Good news, Mike. Kevin got 25 cases of Aguila .30 carbine in. I'm thinking about getting a case myself and having him bring it up (he'll be here before the shoot). He also got a pallet of 7.62x39, if you need any. Don't have prices yet...
  17. Met Mr. and Mrs. Titan14 yesterday. Dedicated shooters, to come around on a cold and gray day. Thanks for building some targets!
  18. Mark@Sea is now Mark at home. Been working on the Honey-Do list, but have the wood for new target stands. Have a new charcoal grill, so our old one is getting transferred to the range. Everyone is welcome to the shoot. Excellent opportunity to meet folks, and for new shooters a good chance to pick up pointers on marksmanship, safe gun handling, and the preferred methods for conducting anti-chipmunk operations (TGO has an in-house, internationally recognised expert). The theme for this shoot is service rifles, but you don't have to bring one. Bring what you want to shoot! Even if it is a (gasp) Glock... If you're interested in service rifles, or think you might be, there will be some on the rack available for you to shoot.
  19. Sarah, Walmart also carries the NEF Pardner pump shotgun, which is a cheaper chinese copy of the 870. It'll be in the 200 dollar range, and will work fine. If you are recoil sensitive, then the 16 or 20 gauge might suit you better than the 12. If you do get the partner, you won't feel so bad when you (or someone else) cuts the barrel down to 18.5 inches, and then cuts the buttstock to make it more comfortable for you to shoot. Overall length of the gun must be 26 inches, which should not be a problem. When you shoulder the gun, your nose should rest against the thumb of your gripping hand, and your elbow should not be over extended. You should also have some angle left in the other elbow with the slide forward. It is harder to explain than it is to demonstrate. I do second the motion to attend the shotgun course, as well.
  20. Smokeless loads are fine - most 45-70 commercial offerings are downloaded to what the trapdoor can handle. Some are not, but will be specifically and prominently marked for modern rifles only.
  21. Everyone, please don't ask JeepMonkey why he has a set of bunny ears. Some things, man is not meant to know...
  22. Anybody here do this? I need an estimate/recommendations/quote for replacing a 30 year old, 5 ton (I think - dataplate fell off some time ago) unit, and the indoor air handler. 2500 sq. ft multi-story house with a LOT of windows. Work has to be done within the next 30 days. If not, anyone have recommendations for brand of HVAC equipment?
  23. Where'd the rifle come from? I would check to make sure the rear handguard isn't loose and interfering with the oprod, before I would replace the spring. The greek surplus is good stuff. Make sure when you lube it you hit the right spots, and use grease, not gun oil! This link may help: http://www.civilianmarksmanship.com/assemblyhtml/reassemblefeed2.html

    Long guns in cars

Takedown frame '97 pump action 12 gauge with 24 inch (or shorter) barrel stores neatly, assembles quickly, works well. Heck, put choke tubes in it, carry them and a small variety of shotshells in a canvas roll. M1A1 type folding stock on a .30 carbine. I might leave one in the vehicle full time, might not. If I had to 'bug out' due to a katrina type event, heck yes I'd have a loaded long gun, or three.
  25. Yup. Fun, ain't it? Linoge, if you bring some suitable 45-70 to the shoot, you're very welcome to shoot mine. I only have 4 rounds for it, though - saving those in case algores polar bears come down our way... hehehe.
