Mike357 and I ended up going through a couple hundred rounds of garand and carbine ammo today. Nutcase, Gunslinger, and several others ended up showing up at the same time. Just a couple pictures, but this one of Mike is priceless.

I have 2 more old shotguns I picked up I'm thinking of cutting down for Katy-bar-the-door guns. So far I haven't had the heart to do it, as they are in great shape and are great shooters... an 1897 Winchester (love that exposed hammer) and an old Ithica model 37 in 16 gauge. Talk about smooooooth.... I'm not a bird hunter (and if I were, I have a Twelvette and a light twelve). I need to either shorten 'em or sell 'em... what to do, what to do...

Boy, do I feel like odd man out. Colt 1903M .32 (X2) Colt 1907 Guess I'm behind the times...

Census worker came by while I was out. Told Sue she had to fill out a form, Sue said she'd rather not until I got home. C.W. got snippy, told Sue she had to fill it out. That didn't work out well. AFAIK, CW filled out an 'incident report', noting Sue was 'uncooperative'. Can someone tell me, without discussing tinfoil, how a lat and long (gps coords) corresponds at all to a mailing address?

Don't know about tactical, but mine are pretty practical. Doesn't matter what you pay for the shotgun, or how it looks - as long as it is reliable and easy to handle. 00 Buck bites just as hard from a $150 beater as it does from a $900 supergun. Bottom: S&W (made by Howa) 870 clone, picked it up for $150. Next the Remington Mdl 11, cut the barrel myself, cost $225 and shipping through gunbroker. W1300 I picked up so long ago I don't have a clue what it cost, and finally, one of several M1 Carbines. Not a shotgun, but a dang fine HD gun. For cheap and new, hard to beat the IAC/Norinco 982 (another 870 clone, well made, ghost sights.) Got one and replaced the plastic furniture with nice Remmy wood, it fit perfectly. Good machined extractors, metal trigger housing, not bad for about $260. It'd be in the picture if my step son hadn't "inherited" it prematurely.

Umm... Well, nice looking rifles, and I think you will really like the HRA. Mine is my best shooter, even with the worst bore. As far as the scalp goes, I'm trying to think of something, but nothing is coming to me... 12 clicks up at a hundred, 15 at three hundred is a good starting point... And I warned you to stop looking

Maybe 1 year left on the ammo - November they estimated a 10 year supply. Thousands of mail orders a month, some for multiple rifles.

Mike, if you'll be rangemaster, you're welcome to use the range. As for food, that is something you'd have to take up with Sue. There is a chance I will still be home. Won't know for a few days, though.

Colt Woodsman. CCI Green Tag.

And again - get your ten cans.
-
Definitely get your ten cans of ammo! As soon as you get in the door, go to the desk and give them your drivers license for a bore gauge. The H&R's are on the back wall. The Winchesters are on the right hand wall. All the winnies are in bad shape, bore wise, even the woodless ones. Go down the racks testing bores. Look for a 'less than two'. When you find one, glance over the rifle, looking at metal finish, then wood. If you want a new stock, CMP has some very nice walnut for $118. They will even let you look through two or three to find one that appeals. After getting your rifle, go to the window and drop off your paperwork. If you were already a member, I'd say do that first, but if not, better find 'your' rifle first. Don't look at the carbines, they are beautiful. Very hard to walk away from them after you've seen them. I know - I came home with two. A buddy I went with came home with four (and then figured out he couldn't afford them all, I am picking up two from him this weekend). After you've found 'your' rifle - QUIT LOOKING! If there were a guy in the corner buying kidneys or other organs, he'd be very busy.

Mike, did you mean "to you" or "at you"? Don't go nuts worrying about the business end. When you can, when you can. Would like you to bring up your Garand, I want to look at the trigger pack and run a few clips through it, either get rid of the problem or replace the pack. Love the new avatar, by the way. Sue said you ought to have a woodpecker laser-graved on the stock. Personally, not sure I would listen to anyone that owns a pink carbine.

Well, guys, you have the number, give us a call... SunTzu, just get joined up, order it later - but don't wait too long....
-
It was a hoot. Thanks again to Hero Gear and Tri-Cities Gun Depot for the prizes and the targets. Hope to see you all again soon....

Mike, SunTzu, Cody; Looks like the doc is gonna beach me for a little while, a week or two at the least. If you guys can make it up on the weekend, I can provide the forms you'll need to mail order 30-06 from CMP, get you qual'd to join, and Cody, I got another case of carbine ammo in, if you want some... Tell you what, find me a couple good bayonets at SMKW and we'll do some swappin'. Didn't have time to show proper offhand, standing, kneeling and prone positions at the shoot, either...

'sokay, Linoge. Notwithstanding several guarantees, the 'smith gussying up my shotgun still hasn't got it back to me. We did have fun, though.

Wow, guys (and gals), glad you had a good time. Heckuva turnout, must have been more than 30. Hope to see you all again sometime. I'm leaving the grill down at the range. If anyone happens to be in this neck of the woods and wants to do a little shooting, give us a call and come on by.... Again, great meeting new friends, and always a pleasure seeing the old ones again. Not that you are all that old, Mike....

Easy Directions from Knoxville: 40 to 81. 81 to exit 56B (Kingsport/I-26). I-26 North to Exit 0 (Lynn Garden Dr,) At the bottom of the offramp is a redlight. Take a left. Take a left at the next light onto Carters Valley West Go 2.5 miles, cross a bridge. Across from the brick church on the right is Big Elm Rd. Take Big Elm 1/2 mile or so, take the first paved left onto Clicktown Rd. Go 100 yds on Clicktown Rd, at the 'T' take the left onto gravel. Go 3/10ths of a mile on the gravel. Look for an old barn lantern hanging from a post. Up the hill is the house. Continuing past the lantern down hill takes you to the range. You can't go too far, unless your vehicle is amphibious. 423-246-6433

Maybe they've updated the maps in the last 6 years...

Ohshoot, I recommend the highly convoluted instructions. Mapquesting it takes you to Church Hill*, which (address notwithstanding) I am a good 20 miles away from. However, if you insist... 150 Dickerson Rd Church Hill, TN 423-246-6433... call when you get lost " Funny story - just after I bought the house my brother Andrew comes up to visit. He used Mapquest. He ended up in Church Hill, and called me from his cel. Insisted, when I gave him directions, that wasn't the way to get to my house. I was standing in my living room, and suggested that if the directions were wrong, somebody would be awful upset when they came home and found me moving furniture into their house. I believe livid would be a good word to describe his reaction...
