  1. Well, maybe we shouldn't. For someone who complains about the "ignorant spew from conservatives", he's sure got his panties in a wad over a perceived 'lack of respect' for his views. Calling me a lock-step nazi isn't helping his argument too much either. So, with all due respect, truly no insult intended, the best response I can muster is.... Bye!
  2. I've found a set of rims and tires for my truck (M37) - but they are in Murfreesboro, and the guy won't ship. Would it be convenient for anyone here to pick up 5 rims/tires and transport to Kingsport?
  3. Oh, there is a long story about Poke-mon, Hero Gear, and some Roto-Rooter guys, but this is a family board, and ethical extortion requires that once bought, you stay bought - I will say that alcohol was involved Not really, I'm making it up, but it was too easy...
  4. They still put that significant divot in the bolt? (Been quite a while since I had any interest in AR's). That divot was the original forward assist. Use your thumb. Given that you aren't using it for combat, you should have no problem using it instead of the big lump on the side of the receiver. Shoot straight!
  5. 32 S&W short?
  6. Have fun with it Mike. Just a word on ultrasonic cleaners. They ROCK! Fun (and educational) to watch the fouling boiling off a piece I thought I'd gotten clean.
  7. That won't work. You have to aim for the head. Nice shotgun! Enjoy!
  8. is having protesters beaten with grappling hooks. Check links at Instapundit, but warning - very graphic. If there were any justice, we'd be invading along about Tuesday morning.
  9. (from my wife this AM) Just outside Kingsport, 6 inches and snowing
  10. Well, wait 'till you go to put it back together. You'll have a whole new appreciation for the phrase "what was I thinking?".
  11. Chris, yes and no... It's mine, but it isn't in Kingsport at the moment. The body is in Bonneau, SC, the block is in Charleston, the exhaust, carb and fuel pump in Moncks Corner and there are quite a few parts in transit from various places. Current schedule is to have it back on the road by the end of February, though, and some time afterwards (likely when I transfer from my current ship) I'll drive it home. By that time I should be able to meet up with you in it, if you want to check it out. I'm afraid of what I'll find after the body is sandblasted, but if no real bodywork is required (gee, who'd paint rust?) then things should pretty much run to schedule. Would have been a little sooner, but Sue (my wonderful and very-understanding-of my-expensive-hobbys wife) needed a root canal last week.
  12. Hmmm, the support lever for the passenger windshield is bent. Hadn't noticed that before.... sigh.... Oh, and how 'bout that paintjob?
  13. Well, here are a couple teasers. The truck as delivered, and a shot of the windshield with one of the frames having the new weatherstrip, one still has the old. You can tell the difference by the hole you could poke a finger through at the corner...
  14. I ain't postin' pichers right now - the front clip is half apart, engine, transmission, radiator, etc. are out of the truck (the block is at the machine shop, actually) the top is at a seamstress' shop, the floors are out, etc. etc. When I get 'er back together, though, I will certainly post a few. Figure end of February unless some other catastrophic condition comes up. Here's a funny for you; Remember the brouhaha I got from the base police over having a machete in the back of the truck? This'n has a pioneer kit on the tailgate (axe, pick and shovel). As I intend to bring it on base a few times after it is back on the road, I plan on replacing the pioneer kit tools with cardboard replicas, and maybe a WMD warning, just for the keystone kommandos on the gate. Hope they get a kick out of it.
  15. searching the internets for parts suppliers for the "restored" 1954 M37 truck I bought a month ago. Which by the way, if a guy named Greg Solberg from MN ever offers to sell you a horse, better check theres a leg on all four corners. So far, this "restored" truck has required a new military distributor (to replace the incorrect civilian distributor that sorta-kinda worked, if running on 3-4 cylinders is your thing), a total engine rebuild, canvas top repair, some electrical rework/repair, new running board to replace the crumpled, torn up, then hammered-flat drivers' side, new radiator, new weatherstripping to replace the original rubber, which rotted when he spray-painted it. Still on the list: New tires to replace the undersized, incorrect tires, parking brake, troop seats and cargo cover, eventually a paint job to correct the 'nice-looking from 25 feet' rattlecan crapjob, weld up the accessory holes from the bubba'd horn button, other mysterious dash holes, and holes in the body for the civilian stereo antenna, and it seems every time I start a job I might as well make a new parts list for the stuff I see while working. I feel like I'm working on Johnny Cash's cadillac, but it sure as apples is costing me a dime or two... On the gripping hand, though, Ima gonna have a nice ride when I'm done. So, anybody have a source for military marker light lenses with a yellow main lense?
  16. All you guys must be mistaken... Global Warming killed winter, don'cha know... Why, I remember when I was a wee lad standing hip deep in the snow in August.... This year winter must've started a bit early, Mike.
  17. I don't believe I said it was the first time. FDR is a curse word in my house. Well, he gets cursed once or twice a week on average. Not real fond of Lincoln, either.
  18. A corporation, like a gas pump, is a mechanism designed, built, and operated by men for a purpose. On what grounds do we deny those men (and women - 'scuse me ladies) the right to free speech? Some would have us believe that SCOTUS has granted corporations the right to vote. Nothing could be (purposely) further than the truth. SCOTUS simply balanced a law denying the right to free speech against the first amendment, and found that law wanting. So what we have here is a sitting president attacking the bill of rights.
  19. My wife the milk snob finally found a powdered milk she likes. It doesn't have that common 'powdered milk' taste. We have about a dozen #10 cans on the shelf - a good years supply, at least. As for bread, she makes her own... lucky me!
  20. Mike, Sue is getting a can of the WWII bore cleaner in the mail to you tomorrow...
  21. It isn't indifference, it is an alergy to bankruptcy, bubba, and bars on the windows. All too real an outcome in many situations, even if your intentions are good, the results are satisfactory, innocent lives are saved, and the police think you're a hero. All it takes is an ambitious prosecutor. I know of a case of road rage in which a pair of newlyweds were chased and fired upon for more than 20 miles. When they were finally cornered by three bikers who stated their intent to "kill you ********, he fired twice - first in the air, and then at the armed man charging him and his wife, killing him. Police were on the scene almost instantly thereafter, and arrested the other two bikers with their weapons. The dead biker had a weapon in his hand. Two of them, including the stiff, were known to have attempted the murder of a police officer. The county prosecutor directed his arrest that night on charges of first degree murder. He was lucky - he was found not guilty at trial, and it only cost him in the neighborhood of 100,000. This was twenty some years ago - wonder what it would cost today?

I really can't criticise, as I have a carbine stock for one of my black powder pistols. Lets check the list, shall we? Fairly expensive? Check Completely unnecessary? Check Practical? Nope Whats not to like? (I'm referring to my stocked black powder revolver, of course. This Taurus is, no doubt, the ideal ___________ (insert your preferred role) ever invented.
  23. I can think of a lot of things that are a real blast. Don't mean I want to hold on to 'em when they go boom.
  24. I'd say the chief aim of our criminal justice system is to keep criminal lawyers and judges gainfully employed. A corollary of that understanding is the belief that if there is any chance at all you could be prosecuting for using your carry piece in the defense of others, you will be. After all, the DA, police and courts have nothing to lose in the attempt.
