  1. Well, I'm not much of a photographer. It really does look good.
  2. It's chinese, but after the first, poorly made, production run, one of the premier cowboy action gunsmiths went over to china, got them to fix what needed fixing, arranged for the wood (walnut) to come from the US (chinee wood just doesn't do it), and introduced them to quality control. The latest production runs are very well made, better steel than the originals. The gunsmith is one of a few '97 experts, and he also does the action job SunTzu mentioned. The gun is a workhorse without it, a racehorse with it. Note, it doesn't come with a bayonet - I acquired that seperately. A 'civilian' version of this gun is available without the heatshield/bayonet lug. This version is made in limited runs, if you want one anytime the next 4 or 5 years, get it now. I'm considering a second one, they make darn fine HD guns. They will hold 6 2-3/4 shells, that very solid walnut makes a buttstroke something to fear, there is no safety beyond the half-cock position on the hammer. With the action job, it is smoother than my old ithaca model 37.
  3. Obama is the anti-moses. He's leading us out of the promised land.
  4. "Net neutrality" would allow the government to dictate how an isp manages it's network - in part by choosing what types of traffic. How is allowing the government to choose content going to make the net more free? Possibly you have an insight that escapes me.
  5. I've been pretty lucky with this assignment, shame it won't last much longer. Should be able to make it home for the weekend in 3 weeks, but until target stands, at a minimum, are up, no point in setting up a shoot. Mike, if you and SunTzu can get stands in beforehand, schedule a shoot for the 24th. Otherwise I will get some in that weekend and we will shoot for two or three weeks after that... I want to angle the pistol stands a bit as we discussed. Goal is three stands at 25, 3 at 50, and one or two at 100.
  6. Looks good to me. I was on the phone with Sue, heard yoi banging away.
  7. Will let you all know when I'm home again. Stage and stand construction next, then we can schedule a shoot. Thanks, Titan14, Mike357, SunTzu and 70below!
  8. Along with millions of russians, socialism murdered truth. Photos were altered, books were recalled and destroyed, new 'corrected' editions were issued. Those who resisted the changes were sentenced to 're-education' (it's where the term came from): which was, in truth, nothing more than a death sentence in a work camp. Editing facts, absolute intolerance of dissent, total control of media and communication; these have always been their strongest tools. An internet connection? Hell, a mimeograph meant a death sentence. There's some history for you.
  9. Just happened to be a weekend I can make it home. I know a lot of folks have other commitments - don't worry, there will be other opportunities.
  10. Try Joe Huffmans "Just one question".
  11. Unsure about Jamestown. Certainly the company that sponsored the expedition was capitalistic, the article certainly brought that point out - but how did the colony function. It is fact that the Plymouth colony was socialist-communist through the first year. Losses were high, possibly because many counted on their more energetic brethren to feed and clothe them. The rules were changed abruptly, so that each family owned the fruits of their labor. Losses the following year were.much lower. Seperation of church and state has come to mean that the government cannot even acknowledge the existence of a higher Power. To claim this was the intent of the founders is hogwash, easily disproved by their writings. They simply provided that the government may not establish a state religion - easily understandable to anyone cognizant of what was, to them, recent history. FDR was undeniably socialist, many economists believe his policies did, in fact, turn a recession into a depression. The depression was masked by the world war, but it took FDRs death and the reversal of his price-fixing, wage-fixing, pro-union, anti-free market policies for the economy to recover. Joe McCarthy was right. KGB files proved it. He fought the good fight, and was dragged down by closet Communists. I could go on, suffice to say this is a smear by/on behalf of the ultra leftists who lost control of how Texas school books would be written. Due to the size of the state, this will heavily influence textbooks in other states. What you are seeing here is a counterattack in a battle for the minds of children - a battle socialists had won, they thought (unfortunately true in colleges and universities). Any who don't believe socialism is evil either don't know its true history,or are evil themselves ultimately willing to murder millions in pursuit of their goals.
  12. Happy Easter to all... Mike, looking forward to seeing you guys. Coldcuts for lunch, lasagna for dinner, I think that's the plan. I'm real low on woodford, just so you know...
  13. Might be a good idea. We'll need lots of cash to come up with a solution for the capsizing island problem. Anything to keep Hollywood from another Poseidon Adventure remake
  14. Easter weekend, so I'm sure a lot of folks have church and/or family activity planned. I'll be home, campers / range workers welcome, I'm sure there will be a little shooting. Cody, if you can make it up, bring your carbine - I can supply you a couple hundred rounds in honor of your upcoming enlistment. Weax: Saturday beautiful, Sunday 20% chance of rain. Intent: remove trash/brush from range area, plan target stand placement. if I can source filldirt (any tips?) I'll get it delivered Friday or Saturday. Weapons available: lawn tractor w/johnny bucket, shovel, chainsaw, trash bags. Stocked broomhandle Mauser and (limited) supply of ammunition if you've ever wanted to try one. I wasn't kidding about lanterns & stoves; don't go out and buy one! *** dirt found, dumptruck delivering Saturday***
  15. Let's start with the dirt. Maybe my lawn tractor can push it around... Camping: plenty of spots ranging from isolated to open. An airstream (sleeps 3 singles) is available. I have lanterns and campstoves for loan, a couple coolers and even a cabin type tent. There is a decent hotel within 6 miles (PM me for info if you need it). Rates reasonable if not a race weekend (bristol). I'm up for a bolt gun shoot... need to get the dust off my K31!
  16. Shooters always welcome to camp. It will take at least one and probably two weekends of range cleanup / repair beforehand, though. The winter was not kind... First thing needed is trash removal, including some downed trees. Then I'm getting a few loads of dirt and renting a backhoe. Finally, new target stands need built. You'll have to be patient.
  17. Well, repeal is favored by 82% of Republicans, 70% of independents, and even 40% of Democrats. Will 6 out of 10 Democrats and 164% of acorn voters be enough to keep it from repeal?
  18. Socialism is dead? I think a whole lot of people missed the memo on that. I see a lot of countries in Europe facing economic ruin. I see a lot of Europeans (and brits, and canadians) coming to the US for medical procedures. I see a lot of horror stories about failure of socialized medicine. One of us here is confused.
  19. I actually caught that on the radio...
  20. Both parties in the Senate were blocking this one, if that tells you anything. Bush's recess appointments in 2006 were a dirty, underhanded trick, according to democrats and the media. Apparently it is now a reasonable tactic.
  21. Knew it was dead when I saw the names on the committee.
  22. I submit that 'Harry Hogan' is confusing beliefs with facts, projecting his own fears on others, is a bit vague on history (hint: Bellesiles work was so thoroughly discredited that even gun banning organizations don't bother quoting it), seems to have missed the outcome of the Heller case in the Supreme Court, apparently can't understand statistics, and finally, has jumbled together every discredited argument that gun ban groups have used in the last forty years. Apparently he feels that taken together, they are more convincing than when disproven seperately. Crap written with conviction is still crap. Sorry, Harry.
  23. Sorry, don't take the WaPo. Prefer Charmin.
  24. Hey, Chavez and Castro love him, so it's not a total loss... It's worse.
  25. Good, now you won't have to shoot some mugger with an ugly gun. It's the little things in life that show we care...
