  1. Mike, I have one that will do that, with Green Tag ammo. Remind me next time, I will haul it and a couple boxes of the good stuff out for you. No, it ain't for sale.
  2. I recently shipped (through an ffl) two long guns in a trade. The recipient decided he didn't want to trade, but instead buy outright for the values I assigned in the swap. I wouldn't have sold them in the first place, I wouldn't have sold them for the low value I put on them in the swap in the second place, and it took him three months to pay for one and return the other. Nor did he pay for my shipping costs. Last time I do anyone I don't know any favors, unless someone I know well is willing to vouch for them.
  3. Very good essay, not written by 'major caudill', but by a gunblogger named marko kloos. Google 'munchkin wrangler'.
  4. Worst ever for me, I wasn't in a car. Had gone to visit my dad (hospice care,he passed about a week later ). As you might imagine, my younger brother and I were feeling pretty blue. About 9 that evening we decided to stretch our legs, get out of the house, have some time we could talk. Walked 4 or 5 miles to a gas station, bought sodas, turned around and started back to my dad's home. Walking through town, on the sidewalk, quiet evening - town cop pulls up behind us, blue lights us, wanted to know who, what, why, etc. Demanded (and got) ID. Said he could arrest us (I asked what charge, he said he didn't need one to jail us overnight). After a good 10 or 15 minutes of really chewing us out (for being in 'his' town without his permission, I guess - the general gist of it was we were lowlife scum just looking for a chance to commit crime) he ordered us to go straight home, and stay there. At that point, I'd really have liked to go a few rounds with him. Grade A jack***. If my dad had not been in such straits, I would have just told him to take us in, and he, his chief, and my lawyer could discuss the issue later at the civil suit. I really wanted to say that ( if nothing else, just to see his face). Good thing I didn't, the next day was the last chance I had to talk to my dad.
  5. Not at all, any "tips from the pro's" welcomed. I'm new at it myself, .
  6. Swiftboating; Actual witnesses contradicting PR hype.
  7. Well, it's overkill, I admit. Now I regret selling my Swedish mauser...
  8. Thus the 'party of tolerance' works to silence dissenting voices.
  9. Sure, Cody, no problem. ..
  10. More than welcome! I have several rifles and plenty of 308/30-06.
  11. Have several hanging around the house in the evening, can't get home for at least a couple weeks....
  12. Coward, SC was well known for '1 mile over' tickets a while back. Went from 55 to 35, you'd better be doing 34 as soon aa you pass the sign. Chesapeake cops want to search your car, you might as well say yes, otherwise they'd "move it out of traffic" to the nearest parking lot and search it anyway. On slow nights back in the '80's, Norfolk cops would come onto the naval base and stop guys headed for the piers, write 'em speeding tickets for the highway outside the base - at that time fighting a traffic ticket was a major hassle, you had to get a command representative to go with you.
  13. Oh, that article and author are so wrong it isn't worth getting worked up over. It's just an attention grabber, like a kid that deliberately breaks a window. Best to ignore it entirely (unless of course you have the fortunate opportunity to give him a swift kick to the nads, in which case, I'd take it as a personal favor if you gave him an extra for me).
  14. I'm not sure if this is stage two (anger) or stage three (bargaining - angry readers are better than no readers) but CNN is going down faster than a porn queen at a Tiger Woods open invitational. It's really kind of sad, seeing the wretched remains of what was once a great and respected organization.
  15. Never a bad way to spend the day...
  16. I wish there were an easy method. That swiss 7.5x55 brass is awfully nice to be throwing away...
  17. If you are unhappy with the law, perhaps finding a jurisdiction that agrees with your preferences would be a better choice than enforcing what you think should be law. Sooner or later that approach will bite you.
  18. Violent words from an anti. Just one example of many.
  19. I like shooting 22 - usually pistol, though. When I shoot rifle, 98 % of the time I leave the 10-22 behind and use my bolt gun. I have a lever action Henry that sees much more use than the ruger, and I doubt I've put more than a box of cartridges through the Henry in the last two years. Nope, for me a bolt is the way to go. There is no performance difference between a plastic or laminate stock, its a matter of appearance only. As for the accu-trigger, they're nice, but unless you're a match level shooter it won't matter - just give you something else to fiddle with rather than concentrating on basics and enjoyment.
  20. If the only way I could reach it safely were with strong side hand, I'd use two fingers and move slowly. Don't think I could reach it with my off hand and pull without unacceptable risk of nd. Well, if I were carrying a glock or similar. Too many tales of the trigger catching on something. Safest all around to leave it in the holster, but that's the officers call to make.
  21. Statistically speaking, as a group, HCP holders are the most law abiding demographic I can think of, including LEO's and politicians. So yeah, they are better than other people, including cops, on the whole -at least, if 'law abiding' is part of your values/judgement system. Anybody here willing to claim that "pissing off the police", while not found in the legal codes, isn't a de-facto crime? Any police here Never seen a citizen busted on a bs charge because the arresting officer just didn't like their attitude or had a bad night at home? Anybody not seen or heard of a case where a bad rap got turned into 'charge 'em with everything and seee what sticks'? There are, undeniably, officers who have burned out, or use their position to powertrip at every opportunity, and even a few who use the badge to cover criminal activity. Until the thin blue line does a better job of protecting the public from their own bad apples, you're going to face suspicion, resentment, and distrust. In communities where the bad apples are prevalent (N.O., for example) the police lose the trust of the community - well, it ain't good. Covering up or ignoring these incidents and attitudes, in life or even a public forum, is counterproductive. If your chosen response to seeing a holstered weapon on someone who presents no other indicator of criminal activity (except, perhaps a mundane traffic violation) is to prone them out, feed them some gravel - you probably need a vacation. You've become part of the problem. Your intentions matter nought. The fact is, innocent civilians have been and will be killed by police, because of this hyper aggressive 'my safety comes before that of the public' behavior. Is that really why you became a cop? Is feeling bad about those incidents enough of a response, or should you take a more active stance - maybe starting with an honest self appraisal? I'm not cop-bashing, not looking for argument, just providing food for thought.
  22. I've heard that as of 2010, ebay/paypal will report all transactions to IRS. Don't know if that is fact, as I don't sell on ebay.
  23. Got it from Coal Creek Armory 4 or 5 years ago.
