Mike, I'm on leave next month... there WILL be another trip/campout.
-
Well, I have a couple of very old telegraph keys, repeaters and sounders (and they work), and a few other odds and ends from a telegraphers desk. A Railroad Express Agency scale from the '20's A gravity fed gasoline lamp One of the factory prototypes for the Coleman 323 series lantern, dating from about 1916 A WWII brass compass, the forerunner of the standard military pocket compass. A Vesuvius 2 burner gas stove, all brass and copper... no idea how old, but really neat. A USN boarding cutlass A kerosene student lamp from the late 1800's Some memorabilia from the Clinchfield RR (ashtrays, time tables, etc) A '36 Plymouth (for sale), a 51 M38 and a 54 M37 A lot more that escapes me at the moment (my sister calls my place 'the museum') But the oddest (and most treasured) are my TGO friends.

I just don't know where to start...

The ride was great. Tried to get SunTzu to drive after breakfast, but he didn't want to make a grand entrance at Waffle House... One of these days, I'm going back down our route and trying "the road not taken". If the one we took was the easy route, the other must qualify as some sort of amusement park ride. The truck makes turning around in my back yard much easier, too. Climbs that bank next to the garage like it isn't there.

Good point... No damage to mine, he has a dented/scraped quarter panel. I called it even. They built 'em tough back then....

I was driving my M37, and was making a left turn at an intersection. A guy behind me thought he could "squeeze by" on my left (!), but swerved into me when he saw oncoming traffic. This is actually legal (if not terribly smart) in South Carolina. The sad result: I'll go out later with a rag and wipe his paint off my fender. He didn't make out so well...

Don't you work out of your house?:lol: There goes another keyboard. Hope you're happy.

Now, lets' get something straight right now. Foghorn Leghorn is funny! Yeah, maybe I just don't travel enough to see how things are.

Yes, I'm pretty gullible. Shoot, I believed in the tooth fairy until last year, and I still believe there are communists who are trying to destroy the American way of life and institute their murderous socialist garbage.

This isn't your grandfathers country anymore, if you haven't noticed. Are you in construction? Project manager, Foreman, something like that? Your experience to back your position is??? Anecdotes are not data. I'm not in construction - but a friend is, at a managerial level. We just had this conversation. His experience varies - vehemently - from your position. (Construction jobs? In todays' economy? Hahahahaha... That'd be funny if it didn't hurt so much). They're here for welfare, food stamps, housing assistance, social security, 'free' healthcare, easy loans (Thanks, ACORN) etc. etc. ad nauseum. The majority who are working are 'domestics' or temps. That includes the day labor types hanging out at Home Depot. Those who hold a permanent position are likely manning the cash register at the local stop and rob. There are exceptions, of course. Last major raid (and the one before that, come to think of it) that I saw in the news was a meat packing plant. Can't remember the last time I saw "construction site raided, 40 illegals arrested". Illegal immigration and the myriad programs that support and encourage it is, bluntly, a vote-buying program for the democratic party. Glad you're losing tolerance. It's correctable, with early intervention. Please note the difference between a personal attack (you smell funny) and an attack on your argument (your position is wrongly based on 'what everyone knows' - AKA 'popular wisdom' - rather than fact). Grasping the subtle difference lowers blood pressure, prevents premature baldness, and improves social skills. As far as that politician, I would agree in somewhat stronger terms that he doesn't represent the views of a majority of his (legal) constituents.

As long as we're pontificating on subjects about which some of us have no clue (background in construction? No? Economic theory? Hmm.... I sense a trend here), how about explaining how good cap and trade will be for us. Knowing people in the construction business (at least, above the professional level of 'roofer') would probably be helpful in building talking points... but the 'evil capitolists exploit cheap labor' meme doesn't hold water. Illegals lead our society in a number of socially significant areas: gang violence, criminal activity, identity theft, draining social welfare programs, drug running, and oh yeah, picking crops. Where would we be without them? I'm rapidly losing tolerance for ignorance. Does it show?

I think we have more than enough MoveOn in this thread already, Dan'l... -

Trigger lock / lockbox requirement? See Heller. What does the SCOTUS have to do to get the tyrants to understand? Better question - when will the Supremes figure out what 'infringed' means? Should we send 'em a dictionary?

What show would you like to see brought back to TV?

Paladin, Paladin, where do you roam? -
OS, we're in the same bucket at home. Can't get cable, no wireless signal to speak of, and can't get satellite unless I clear a buncha trees. Too far from the switch for ISDN. I'm on my laptop here at the hotel (ship is in the yards).

McDonald v. Chicago SCOTUS Opinion
Mark@Sea replied to eapking's topic in 2A Legislation and Politics
Nope, the liberals were one vote away from having their arses handed to them on a plate. The beauty of the second amendment is that you don't really need to use it until they try to take it away. Kind of like the tripwire to a claymore. -

All a matter of definition. According to VPC et al, if you own a gun you are a gun criminal. If you have a carry permit, you're a raving psychotic who is a menace to the public at large. They are really fortunate that we gun owners are so peaceful - wouldn't be pleasant for them if we took grave exception to such language. And hey, I STILL want to know why Helmke has a (recently renewed ) ffl. -
The M4 was never as effective as it once was. 5.56 is a marginal round out of a rifle barrel; the loss of velocity inherent in a carbine length barrel isn't going to improve that. The weak points of the AR system (gas tube, direct impingement, bolt lug engagement, aluminum receiver) are going to remain weak points regardless of caliber. The strong points of the AR system (light weight, can carry more ammo) largely result from the use of .22 ammo. A .22 battle rifle. Kind of like naming an attack sub after Jimmuh Carter.

So, where can I find a good deal on a pike? SMKW carry 'em? -

Well, regardless of spelling, grammar, and diction, I just don't like you. Nothing personal, it's an attitude I hold for all socialists. I'm pretty sure that I still have that right, whether it be offensive or not. Show me someone who believes in freedom, and I don't care if he's borderline illiterate - he's on my side in a fight that has been going on a long time. Sometimes hot, sometimes cold, but a war between freedom and slavery to the state. Call it paradise and stick a pansy... in your ear, but it still stinks of chains to me.

Last military appropriation extension bill was for 88 billion. Of that, some 30 billion was for the military, the rest was pork and vote-buying BS. So "more funding for border security" doesn't impress me, until I see where it actually goes. A fence that isn't watched isn't a barrier - at most, it is a nuisance. Obama cut Border Patrol funding 5 times in the first 3 months of this year. He nationalized the AZ guard so that Governor Brewer couldn't put them on the border. Citizens or groups that dare to do something about it get hammered (remember the rancher who caught and held a group of 50 or so that were trespassing his ranch? He lost home and ranch for "violating their civil rights"). Obama has no interest in securing the border. Further, he won't allow it to be secured. Of course he's lying.
