Violent Flash Mobs - Violent Flash Mobs There are more incidents than most realize. The incident in Maryland a few days ago just takes the cake - the cops waited for the mob to leave, then came in and took the report. They refused to call it robbery, instead filing it as a shoplifting incident. It can happen anywhere, it can be brutally violent. I'm considering the proper tactical response... So far the best I can come up with is to clear the area as rapidly as possible, responding appropriately to anyone who poses a threat - including deliberately blocking my escape.

Are EMF cap and ball pistols?
Mark@Sea replied to glockster157's topic in Curio, Relics and Black Powder
EMF has used both Pietta and Uberti in the past. Those two are the leaders in C&B pistols. Fit and finish on both is more than acceptable. Uberti has prettier wood, Pietta has prettier case hardening. Additionally, for some models (not the 1851 you are looking at) Uberti has a more technically accurate reproduction. Pietta stampings are on the side of the barrel, Uberti beneath the loading lever.I have examples of both, would have to say my favorite is an Uberti replica 1861 Navy Colt - the runner up is a Pietta '51 with a squareback trigger guard.Try this place - I;ve found them to have pretty decent prices - Cowboy Action -
Holding out on raising the debt ceiling soured the economy? Really? Well that blows my whole theory that the promise of greater energy costs, redistribution of income, more intrusive regulation, greater costs per employee (a la obamacare), inflationary fears, and fiscal instability due to unprecedented government spending in the last couple of years had anything to do with it. It was the Republicans - I should have known......

Offended Armstrong Asks UT Remove Obama 'DisappointMints'
Mark@Sea replied to greenego's topic in General Chat
If it is offensive to the left, it must be removed to keep discourse 'civil'. If it is offensive to the right, it fosters discussion. If the left dissent, it is patriotic. If the right dissent, it is treason. If the left don't support the POTUS, it's because he is a fascist. If the right don't support the POTUS it's because they are racist. If the left vote for what they want, it is democracy in action. If the right vote for what they want, it is terrorism. Compromise is when the right give the left what they want. Totalitarianism is when the right refuse to apologise for not compromising. If the left forge a story, it is "true to the narrative". If the right forget a detail, it is because they are all pathological liars. Now you've got the playbook. Just consider the left to be the emotional and intellectual equivalent of a spoiled 4 year old, you won't go far wrong. And I left something out - The mess is always, always, always the other kids' fault. -
I've got a norinco with maybe 15K rounds through it (internals including barrel are GI). Never had a problem with it, no malfs not traced to bad mags or ammo. Gunsmithing consisted of a match armorer spending 15 minutes on it. My favorite out of the pile of 1911s I have is a sistema. Point is, you don't need to drop big bucks unless you want name brand bragging rights. A base 1911 that meets original specs leaves you more cash for good mags and more ammo

Same problem - can't post replies from my android... anybody figures this out, I'd appreciate a useful hint.

Bringing back the nickel with FLITZ ?
Mark@Sea replied to FUJIMO's topic in Gunsmithing & Troubleshooting
I've got more experience than I care to have in polishing nickel. Most pre-1950's Coleman lanterns were nickel plated. I just tonight finished a 5 hour polishing job on a 1954 Coleman 249. If the finish is hazy, don't be too afraid to try some jewelers rouge (red) and a dremel with a felt polishing wheel - but don't bear down too hard on it - go lightly, let the speed do the work. Finish with Mothers mag polish. If the finish is freckeled, forget it - time to re-nickel. Flitz has something in common with the lemon juice recipes - an acid base that will really take the nickel off. I would avoid it, honestly. There is one other polish available that does a great job, really - but it is very, very, very expensive. Think $50 an ounce. Chrome polish isn't gonna do anything for you. Hope this helps! -
Got to wondering, so I called Steve Young (THE '92 gunsmith in the CAS world). The manufacturer (Taurus/Brastech) does the various calibers in batches. The importers/distributors are out of the .357 stainless guns right now, so a buyer would have to wait for another batch to be made/imported. EMF/Hartford no longer imports them. Taurus made some changes and they no longer meet EMF's specs. The Hartford marked guns have better wood, better sights, and better fit/finish. Steve will replace the sights, etc. - but it gets spendy quick... and he has an 8 month backlog. He notes, by the way, that the Winchesters have better fit and finish, but the internals leave much to be desired. I won't make any specific quotes, but it got a bit salty.

I have the stainless .357 Rossi 92 saddle ring carbine. Sent it off to Steve Young - he removed the idiot top safety (and did a fine job), stripped it down and removed the metal shavings, smoothed edges, etc. that needed to be cleaned up from the factory, replaced the plastic follower with a metal one, and did a tune-up. It cycles very smoothly, shoots straight, and feeds most loads with no problem. I added a tang sight just for fun. Bought this for my wife, back when we were trying to find a rifle that suited her. It has not left the rack (except for cleaning) for 5 or 6 years now. I don't hunt, the wife eventually settled on an M1 carbine for personell management. That said, I just had it off the rack and the action is slick, the gun handles very nicely - quick to point, light and handy. Great piece, and you won't be unhappy with one - especially if Steve works his magic on it. I have a new walnut stock set to replace the mystery wood (which isn't bad, but still - walnut is the way to go). I doubt I will ever install it, since my wife ended up not really wanting the rifle. Let me know if you'd like it.

She was right, and the MSM was wrong - as were a bunch of leftie bloggers... Doesn't matter, though. Too many people bought the hype, and either their hatred or ignorance won't let them see what is actually there. "There are none so blind as those who will not see". You have to be able to see through the labels - those applied by others, and those claimed by some - to what the facts are.

One of many from master Heinlein. Appropriate these days, I think... “Throughout history, poverty is the normal condition of man. Advances which permit this norm to be exceeded- here and there, now and then- are the work of an extremely small minority, frequently despised, often condemned, and almost always opposed by all right-thinking people. Whenever this tiny minority is kept from creating, or (as sometimes happens) is driven out of a society, the people then slip back into abject poverty. This is known as ‘bad luck.’.”

Indiana repeals the 4th amendment?????
Mark@Sea replied to Will Carry's topic in 2A Legislation and Politics
This effectively recreates the 'Writs of Assistance", which were basically self written search warrants the Brits used. This was exactly the reason the fourth amendment was written. They aren't Brits, but they might as well be wearing red coats. -

Mark@Sea replied to Will Carry's topic in 2A Legislation and Politics
Dave, your straw man is burning. The justices went far beyond "entering while domestic violence is occurring". They went so far, in fact, the Indiana AG is asking them to revisit the ruling. A state senator is promising a law to reverse the ruling. There is a pretty hefty movement to can the sheriff who decided this ruling allows him to conduct warrantless, random home searches. Quite frankly, I wouldn't want to be a deputy in his department. As far as precedent is concerned, several hundred years of precedent should be a good guideline - without a warrant, and barring a few very narrow sets of circumstances, the police have no right to enter your home at will. Cops are citizens with the power to make a misdemeanor arrest. Those who would consider themselves as a separate class forget this at their peril. "Only Ones" can become "Lonely Ones" quicker than you'd believe. "Any man who covers his face and packs a gun is a legitimate target for any decent citizen" Jeff Cooper -
Decent piece. I'd pick one up in a skinny minute if I had the jack to spare...

IN Sheriff: If We Need to Conduct RANDOM HOUSE to HOUSE Searches We Will | Today's Lead Story Oh, I'm just thrilled. This, and any law, should be considered in light of how it can be abused. I guarantee this wonderful new tool for police will be abused, and lead to the deaths of innocent people. -

One little game changer that is getting overlooked... Inflation and the value of our currency. Blow the official numbers, they're BS. Everybody feels that pinch - especially those on fixed incomes. I'm betting on an Argentine meltdown, and sooner than you think. -
Update; Sue is now making sheaths for the pipe hawk, frontier hawk, riflemans hawk, and of course the trail hawk. She enjoys it, and so far it is self financing.
