  1. I have a 1921 model on the telephone stand, and a late '30's on the wall in the kitchen. The '21 has a separate ringer box. Both worked fine up until a week ago; when the logger did a bit of grading he took my buried phone line out. The wife complained a little about my 'antiques', until the first time she lost power and was still able to use them, while the fancy cordless rig was useless. Nominal phone voltage is 48VDC. Caution, if the phone line is on the same pole as your power, you may pick up some induced current. Can get right lively. Sometime next week, if I can get a trench dug from the new shop building to the house, I'm running (in addition to power) a line for the sound-powered phone in the shop to one in the house.
  2. As long as you are using black powder, no worries.
  3. You pick the knife, I'll make you a sheath.
  4. The tool will work, don't worry about changing the nipples unless they are peened up from dry firing. If you do want to change them you'll probably have to order them. You'll enjoy the piece. Find the load it likes and it can be surprisingly accurate.
  5. I am, by God, an American. Nobody gets to 'allow' me a right, at least not since I turned 18. Let's reverse the question - on what grounds does anyone feel they can stop me?
  6. I'm looking for a Miroku (japanese browning) - hope to find one I can afford. I didn't know the norinco version was still in production/being imported.
  7. They've wrecked 1 small spring-fed stream and are currently working around another one. Neither crosses my property, though. I don't want to shut them down, just want them to stop wrecking my road, such as it is.
  8. What operating system? Shoot me a pm with contact info, I might be able to help you out. You'll need to be savvy enough to set up an admin account on your own, but there is a good chance I can get you into the existing admin account.
  9. One of the few guns still on my life-long wish list. Anybody have one? Thoughts or opinions?
  10. Dave, in my opinion the federal marshal died of a genetic disorder - terminal stupidity. I'm not, repeat not going to rehash that old history, but your opinion in the matter is a decided minority. Sooner or later, to man or to God, Horiuchi will answer for his misdeeds.
  11. Take a bit more than 2 loads of gravel... it is just shy of 1800 feet long. About a 450 ft change in elevation from one end to the other. I'm waiting for an excavating/grading guy to give me a quote now.
  12. I've spoken to the logger. I'm sure he'd be willing to 'fix' it to the limit of his capabilities, I am also sure they won't be willing to bring in 120 tons of gravel when they're done. A graded clay road is worthless; with the first rain you're unable to get up or down. As this is going to be an ongoing problem for the next 8 months or so, either they continually maintain (which means grade and gravel) or they need to stay off it. The problem in this instance is that a couple of trees from above that switchback fell downhill and across, notching the edge. Thanks for the link, 6.8. I guess this is going to end up in court, which is unfortunate. As I said, the landowner is unhappy that I am here in the first place, this isn't gonna make him any happier. I don't want to be a jerk about it, but I do have to have useable access. At this point I guess I had better talk to an attorney, to see if I should start with a lawsuit or if a gentle reminder (a bill for repairing damage to date) would be in order. Either way, the longer I wait the more it will erode.

    M1 Carbine

From a dollar for dollar position, the M1 is equivalent to many entry-level ARs. Difference being, the carbine isn't current production, whereas the AR is, and is common as dirt. For HD, the carbine is a better choice, in my opinion. It will hit harder at HD/SD ranges (with soft point ammo). It is lighter and handier. It doesn't scream 'tactical ninja' should you wind up in court for shooting someone with it. You can get another AR easily. Getting another carbine in good condition won't be so easy.
  14. Thanks for the advice. I may have to phone it in Monday if we get any heavy rain.
  15. Yeah. Absent this road, the only access to the property requires rotors. The deed specifically says that I (the landlocked owner) have use of the easement for ingress and egress.
  16. I may end up needing an attorney for this. I'm in Hawkins county, and hesitate to bug our resident legal beagles. That being said, maybe someone can offer some informed advice on this. I have an easement for ingress and egress which extends 20 feet to either side of a line down the center of the existing private roadway. When I bought the property 6 months ago, the easement/road was in such bad shape it was not passable to vehicle traffic. I put about 7000 into having it graded, ditched and graveled. The deed is nonspecific regarding maintenance/repair. The property owner decided to log the land surrounding my property, and his logging company has used the easement for a bulldozer and a skidder. Logging activity adjoining the driveway have already caused a drainage pipe to fill with sediment. The resulting trenches caused by rainfall across the easement are beginning to be a problem. The loggers have today dropped a couple of large trees into and across the right of way. As the right of way is a steep driveway cut into the side of a mountain, the impact points on the downhill side (notching the edge and extending into the gravel roadway) and the logging debris on the ditched side are going to rapidly destroy vehicle access to/from my home with the first good rain. I've already spoken to the owner regarding this; he was noncommital. Unfortunately, due to the circumstances surrounding the purchase (my parcel was originally part of his land, deeded to his daughter and lost in foreclosure) the owner is somewhat hostile to my presence. He had planned to wait for the banks' foreclosure price to drop to nearly nothing and repurchase it, counting on the poor condition of the right of way to discourage other buyers (this is what he told me, not conjecture). Who is financially responsible for repair to the right of way? As the logging is going to continue "into next year" and loggers' use of the right of way will likely continue, who is responsible for ongoing maintenance required due to their activities? I cannot afford to continually have the road repaired. Do I have to sue the owners, or is there a simpler procedure (that won't get me jailed ) for getting them to either stop destructive activity on the easement, or continually maintain it to be vehicle accessible? It is literally the only possible wheeled vehicle access to my property.
  17. The zombies are already here. They don't want your brains, they want your wallet. They demand to live - nay, thrive - on your labor, and are angry that you aren't working harder for them.

    Inland M1 carbine

Arsenal overhaul or rebuild is simply where it was turned in to an armory for depot-level maintenance. That is where it picked up the round bolt, adjustable sight, potbelly stock and the forestock band with bayonet lug. It may or may not have received a new barrel (doubtful). It doesn't appear to have the correct mag catch for the 30 round mag. Curiously, it didn't get the second model safety (lever vs pushbutton). At a guess I'd say it was re-arsenaled twice - once for the D-day invasion, where it picked up the barrel band/bayonet lug, and once for Korea, where it was modded to an M-2 (select fire). Then at some point the trigger group was swapped back to M1 - probably for sale through the CMP. Almost every M1 carbine and rifle have been re-arsenaled at least once. No big deal. Gotthegoods, if you are in east tennessee, give me a shout. I'll look over your carbine for you, give you some tips on accurizing and maintenance, and we can shoot yours and mine (sadly, I am down to 4 carbines). They are a real hoot and a very viable HD choice.

    Inland M1 carbine

Yes they are. Strongly suggest, if you are intent on selling it, that you don't take it out for a spin first. An easily accurized, lightweight, easy handling carbine shooting the equivalent of a .357 Mag... To me the wood stock is a bonus, it doesn't have that 'badass black rifle' aura. Suitable for HD, trunkmonkey, SHTF... If you shoot it then sell it, you'll regret it for a long, long, long time - or you'll end up getting another one.

From what I can see, 6-800 assuming the bore is in good shape.
  22. Pretty sure we're doing so already. Currency devaluation, inflation, 'bread and circuses', giving (non-taxpaying) non-citizen residents the same rights as (tax=paying) citizens... I expect it will work out as well for us as it did for Rome.
  23. Strick, critical thinking is a skill. If you practice it, you get better. You've reached an interesting conclusion. Would you enlighten me as to how you did so?
  24. YES. Keep the Govt. out of it. At one time, unwed mothers were shunned, looked down upon. With probably the best of intentions, some idiot got the govt into it. The result? Look on any street corner in a large city. That gang you see? NOT products of a traditional family. Welfare? Exploded is too mild a term. There are several generations of unwed mothers living in the same house, using men as sperm donors and child supporters but NOT welcoming them into the 'family', 'cause it would endanger that government mailbox love. Rome fell to barbarians outside the borders. We're raising our own crop, no outside help needed. Promiscuity and permissiveness have given us the aids epidemic and new strains of VD that laugh at our pharmaceuticals. Welfare 'entitlements' have added trillions to our national debt. The destruction of the traditional family brings higher crime, lower property values, a wrecked educational system. None of these improve the survivability of our country, our way of life, and in the long run, our race. Theres' your moral argument right there. You don't need a purgatory after death - we're building our own hell right here. If you want to build something, you need a carpenter. The only hammer the government has is the size of a wrecking ball.
  25. Priests, churches and a wedding photographer have been sued for refusal to perform or photograph a homosexual wedding. Google is your friend. I personally feel government has no place in marriage. I personally feel this is actually about lawfare and collection of benefits, and has little or nothing to do with homosexual relationships. Like so many other leftist causes, in the end it is all about the money. True love, alright - love of the dollar. Strickj, interesting viewpoint. Read the lecture, think about it, and get back to me. Wish they still taught logic, and the classical logical fallacies.
